To think the way she dressed was a little inappropriate

I want to start by saying I am a bit of a closet fan of the Beckhams and I also want to point out I have a 13 year old daughter. I have just seen pics of the Beckhams at some fashion show and as always, they all look fab. However, I am a wee bit disappointed in what Harper is wearing. It’s a beautiful dress and she looks gorgeous in it but for me, it just looks a little too old for someone of her age (11? 12?). Am I being a bit of a pearl clutcher here or would people tend to agree?

I see what you mean but I also think she just looks like she's playing dressing up in one of her mum's dresses. Especially wearing it with trainers.

I did laugh when I saw that she's almost as tall as Victoria already. My 9YO isn't much smaller than I am!

Ducksinthebath · 01/10/2022 09:18

Are we just imposing an adult reading on a perfectly nice dress worn by a child and sexualising it?

I assume that’s what you’re getting at by saying it’s too old?

Cupcakegirl13 · 01/10/2022 09:19

Yes I thought the same , again I’m not one to diss the Beckhams , all that kissing stuff was utter rubbish etc but this could have done with a bit more material around the front.

dementedpixie · 01/10/2022 09:19

Haven't seen it so can't comment

eyeteevee · 01/10/2022 09:19

I saw a video with lots of 'oh when did she get so grown up' comments.

She didn't.

She is 11.

Depressing.

Link?

OopsUpsideYerEad · 01/10/2022 09:20

Do you have a link, OP?

Angelinflipflops · 01/10/2022 09:22

Ducks in the bath, well it is a kinda sexy dress, where do you draw the line, a negligee?

Poppins2016 · 01/10/2022 09:22

Yes, sorry OP, I think you are pearl clutching! She's a 9 year old who is presumably enjoying borrowing one of her mothers dresses... I can think of much worse/inappropriate outfits..

On the other hand... I'm not a fan of black or plunging necklines for young girls... so I sort of see where you're coming from. But I think this choice is far nicer than, for example, hot pants and a crop top (which a lot of 9 year olds are allowed to wear).

You said what I was going to say.

Shes a young girl out with her family in a dress. There are what 4 it her members if the family you've not commented on.

Can't we just i dunno leave her alone perhaps ?

What are her parents meant to say? No you cant wear that dress becuase a bunch of adults will pick you apart and have you responsible for all ills against women by the end of the evening?

Poppins2016 · 01/10/2022 09:23

Oops. She's 11. Not 9!

eyeteevee · 01/10/2022 09:24

A dress that gapes in the middle all the way to her waistline?

I

floorida · 01/10/2022 09:24

I don't understand why they put their dc so front & centre as there is always negative comments. Most famous people hide their dc.

Yes her parents should have got her something more suited to her 11 years to wear. I'm not picking the child apart btw, it's the parents responsibility. All done to show off VBs failing clothes line.

It was self promotion for VB.

Goldyfishy · 01/10/2022 09:27

@Ducksinthebath - It’s a “perfectly nice dress” with a plunging neckline of the type that is intended to partly expose a woman’s breasts, the a lace detail around that.

That is the design.

If a child was dressed in a corset and suspenders would you then insist that it was a perfectly nice outfit and those adults shouldn’t be sexualising a child?

LadyKenya · 01/10/2022 09:29

Post a link.

RewildingAmbridge · 01/10/2022 09:29

Surely someone could've put a panel of material in so the neckline was more appropriate for a child. I agree it's designed to expose cleavage and looks off on such a young girl

Looneytune253 · 01/10/2022 09:30

I've just googled it and I can only find a photo of her in a long black dress. It is a bit low cut but she's just a child leave her alone

eyeteevee · 01/10/2022 09:30

This is a still from VBs TikTok

Who the hell is defending VB dressing a child this way, simply to promote herself?

To think the way she dressed was a little inappropriate
floorida · 01/10/2022 09:31

I know & it's about the family brand but why would you subject your dc to it? They don't need more money surely.

eyeteevee · 01/10/2022 09:31

We know she is a child. Thats the whole point. The problem is her parents. Not her.

why is #harperseven a # 🤦🏻‍♀️

Rapidtango · 01/10/2022 09:32

Just had a look and actually agree with you OP. Comment above about taking perfectly nice dress and sexualising it - it's pretty much open to the waist. Might be old fashioned, but tbh not something I'd have been overjoyed to have 11yo DD wearing.

The other issue of course, is where do you go from here - long black dress with slashed diamante neckline at 11. Hopefully full on grunge by 13.......
