To think the way she dressed was a little inappropriate

I want to start by saying I am a bit of a closet fan of the Beckhams and I also want to point out I have a 13 year old daughter. I have just seen pics of the Beckhams at some fashion show and as always, they all look fab. However, I am a wee bit disappointed in what Harper is wearing. It’s a beautiful dress and she looks gorgeous in it but for me, it just looks a little too old for someone of her age (11? 12?). Am I being a bit of a pearl clutcher here or would people tend to agree?

Low cut black lace is not appropriate for a child, no.

MistyRock · 01/10/2022 10:12

Arenanewbie · 01/10/2022 09:55

I agree that this dress looks weird for her age and the colour doesn’t suit her.
By the way another strong vote for posting a link or photo when you are asking question about specific thing.

What's the colour got to do with it? What a mean thing to say. She's 11, let her what ever colours she likes.

I think it’s fine, actually, and her whole appearance is refreshingly childish. Hair, (lack of) make up, shoes, all make it a very age appropriate look. There’s nothing sexy about that dress on her because she doesn’t have the figure that woukd make it so, and she’s not presenting it in a way that tries to appear otherwise. I think you can all ease your grip on those pearls.

Yes I agree with this. It would look sexy on a grown woman with breasts and an hourglass figure but not at all on a girl like this. There’s nothing to see so nothing is shown off and it goes all the way to the ground. She looks very much her age - fresh faced etc. Looks like a little girl playing dress up, so inappropriate in that sense but not sexy or sexualised in any way.

Echobelly · 01/10/2022 10:13

TBF, she's not wearing makeup (or not very visible makeup) and not doing anything 'grown up' with her hair, so I don't think the effect is sexualised as it might have been if she had an updo and loads of slap on. I don't think they're pushing a sexualised look on her.

Theimpossiblegirl · 01/10/2022 10:14

I'm sure they have their choice of outfits. This is not a good choice. The neckline is not appropriate for a child. They could at least have put a panel in.

Parents need to parent. Poor girl could easily be living a nice quiet privileged life like many other famous people's children. Using her for publicity is so unfair and will probably come back to bite them. Poor child.

Angelinflipflops · 01/10/2022 09:46

Haha I thought that

I did Google. Got dozens of photos of her at fashion shows in dozens of different dresses. How was I supposed to know which one?

Croque · 01/10/2022 10:15

She is probably being groomed for a career as a nepotism model which will do nothing for her self esteem in the long run. It is such a shame that more celebrities are eagerly farming out their kids than ever before.

TheyreOnlyNoodlesMichael · 01/10/2022 10:16

you nothing inappropriate in an 11 year old wearing a slashed to the waist dress

Most overused word on mumsnet is inappropriate. Can you explain what you feel is "inappropriate" about the dress? Try to do it without sexualising an 11 year old. What exactly is wrong with it? What bad thing will occur as a result of the dress?

Precisely, if it weren’t for the pictures someone else posted I wouldn’t have known what they were referring to

bossorworker1 · 01/10/2022 10:17

I'd rather my daughter wore that than the Nike pros and belly tops with socks and sliders I see girls of a similar age in every weekend!

Comtesse · 01/10/2022 10:17

what purpose does all this lovely judgement serve exactly?

ParentallyUnprepared · 01/10/2022 10:18

It's a very grown up dress, but they've done her hair in pigtails which is very childlike.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 01/10/2022 10:18

For those who can't find the pics/CBA to find them (and I get it coz the OP should have posted some pics if she'd wanted opinions...) Here's a few...

And yes I agree that it's not age appropriate for a little pre-pubescent girl who has just turned 11! More suited to girls/women 17/18+ A plunging neckline on a little girl?! Just NO!

I do wonder why the OP @Hangingandneedsleep posted this thread and then didn't return though. Very bad form, and for that reason, I won't be posting anything on this thread except this one post.

catandcoffee · 01/10/2022 10:18

She probably begged her Mum to wear it... like playing dress up.

I'm more 😮at the way her brother's are dressed.

Starsinyoureyes13 · 01/10/2022 10:19

I wouldnt put it on my own child

For a fashion designer she doesn't half make some hideous dresses and that dress is hideous whether it's an 11 year or 101 year old wearing it
Though her kid looks happy to wear it and knowing Vicky B she probably never says no to any of her kids. So it's more likely harper wanted to wear dress rather than mummy or daddy dearest having a say

Bunnycat101 · 01/10/2022 10:20

She’s wearing the same dress design in yellow in some of the photos and I don’t think anyone would bat an eyelid at those ones. It’s maybe the black that makes it more grown up looking but I can’t really get the outrage on here. I was expecting something much worse tbh.

NoSquirrels · 01/10/2022 10:20

Meh. I couldn’t get worked up about this. The photo on this thread doesn’t make it seem grossly inappropriate at all. It doesn’t seem ‘slashed to the waist’ or any of the other things I’d been imagining before I got to the photo. Nothing seems overly exposed - except the Beckhams in general.

KimberleyClark · 01/10/2022 10:20

NormalNans · 01/10/2022 10:17

I found it easily. If you Google Harper Beckham then select images it’s the first one that comes up!

honeylulu · 01/10/2022 10:22

It's silly in the way that little girls two piece swimwear includes a bikini top that isn't needed. That doesn't make it inappropriate - It's playing dress up of the grown up lady the little girl will become.

Are people saying its inappropriate because it gives the suggestion of future breasts which don't yet exist ? If so what do you think of little girls bikini sets? Are these also inappropriate? Do you not allow your daughters to wear them (or only the bottoms)?

romdowa · 01/10/2022 10:22

11 year olds around my way are wearing bra like crop tops and leggings with see through panels. During the summer they were wearing cycling shorts which were painted on. While also sporting about 6 tonnes of make up. I think harpers dress looks far better.

ThreeWarriors · 01/10/2022 10:23

Well either way it’s hideous.

Croque · 01/10/2022 10:23

I find it inappropriate because it is yet another hugely expensive dress that the vain mother has chosen to encourage her vacuous wealthy friends to fawn over her daughter with the "awww so cute!" comments. It satisfies the ego needs of Victoria, first and foremost.

Abaiia · 01/10/2022 10:24

Horrible dress, whatever your age. I always think black lace near your breasts makes it look like you have a hairy chest.

StClare101 · 01/10/2022 10:25

Why are they even taking her to these events? Just let her be a kid. Keep her out of the public eye for as long as possible.

Quite.

"What do you think of this picture?"
What picture?
"Google it 🙄"
