To think the way she dressed was a little inappropriate

I want to start by saying I am a bit of a closet fan of the Beckhams and I also want to point out I have a 13 year old daughter. I have just seen pics of the Beckhams at some fashion show and as always, they all look fab. However, I am a wee bit disappointed in what Harper is wearing. It’s a beautiful dress and she looks gorgeous in it but for me, it just looks a little too old for someone of her age (11? 12?). Am I being a bit of a pearl clutcher here or would people tend to agree?

I love the perfect Brexit vote so far of 49% vs 51%. This could run and run.

She’s wearing the same dress design in yellow in some of the photos and I don’t think anyone would bat an eyelid at those ones. It’s maybe the black that makes it more grown up looking but I can’t really get the outrage on here. I was expecting something much worse tbh.

I really like the yellow one, and she's teamed it with yellow Nikes which looks cute.

Horrible dress, whatever your age. I always think black lace near your breasts makes it look like you have a hairy chest.

Haha, I won’t be able to unsee the black lace/ hairy chest simile now.

OneTC · 01/10/2022 10:36

I was expecting something else entirely, the photos posted on this thread do not show a sexualised child. If that's what you see then have a fucking word with yourselves

TidyDancer · 01/10/2022 10:37

Yeah I agree OP, it's an adult design and looks quite odd on a child.

Kumri · 01/10/2022 10:40

Yanbu, that’s a gross dress on a child.

(Yabvu for not putting a link or picture in the OP though.)

Hangingandneedsleep · 01/10/2022 10:41

@WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps Apologies for not replying straight away. Apologies for not posting a link (I didn’t know the expectations but I know now so won’t make that mistake again). Apologies that you feel these events are stopping you from posting again- that was not my intention.

My OP was not to criticise Harper. She is, as many of you have mentioned, the child here. I just wanted to point out I thought the dress was inappropriate for someone of her age (obviously the parents’ fault).

Yanbu and agree with pp just put a pic could be anything

ancientgran · 01/10/2022 10:44

She looks like a very pretty little girl, she looks healthy and happy.

pattihews · 01/10/2022 10:46

It's a dress designed to draw attention to an adult woman's breasts and cleavage. It will sell because it's sexy. Putting an 11-year-old in it is inappropriate and if the child was a different kind of girl — a girl from a working class family perhaps with a past involving social services — it would be read as a red flag. But because her mum's a fashion designer it's okay, apparently.

Not sure if you're being sarcy or not. 😂 But anywayz, it's OK. Smile

Nobody is disputing that. But that is still a very inappropriate dress for - as you stated very clearly - a little girl.

ZenNudist · 01/10/2022 10:49

She looks like a sweet girl but she should have a t shirt on under the dress. She hasn't got anything to put in that dress so doesn't look sexual IME but it seems the same as when my not much younger friends dd wanted to take her top off at a party because she was too hot after jumping on a bouncy castle. It's not right and I also tell my boys to put their tops back on in company because its not right we aren't savages so can be properly dressed in public.

EachandEveryone · 01/10/2022 10:49

I like the way Harper dresses she always looks like a normal child. I hope in future she goes on to do great things. The dress is just too low. Here are a couple of 13 year olds who have barely been in the press. footwearnews.com/2022/fashion/red-carpet/sarah-jessica-parker-twins-marion-tabitha-hocus-pocus-2-1203349505/ they look adorable not a low neckline in site.

witchyw · 01/10/2022 10:50

That's not an appropriate dress for a preteen

I agree. But it's all to sell Brand Beckham.

SiobhanSharpe · 01/10/2022 10:51

It makes me a little sad to see an 11 year old in that long black dress, unless it was for a hallowe'en party or something like that. It's oddly aging and just doesn't work.
There are so many lovely clothes for young teenagers and pre-teens that would look loads better on her.
I actually think navy or midnight blue would look more appropriate while still giving a slightly sophisticated/growing up effect.
Other than that she looks very pretty and natural.

Was it not just common sense to add the photo when you want people to comment on a photo. Weird. 🤨

Image for those who are hard of Google

Hard of Google for some means coming off mumsnet, looking, coming back and finding this thread. It would have been a lot easier for op to have just posted a picture, dont you think?

Despite your pa, thank you for actually posting it.

RusticChips · 01/10/2022 10:58

I agree dress it too old for her

custardbear · 01/10/2022 10:58

It's ridiculous dressing s child in a dress designed to draw attention to someone's breast /figure. WFT was VB thinking? Paedos are going to be interested in your child VB - FFS

dementedpixie · 01/10/2022 09:49

Why should we need to Google to answer a question? If you want an opinion then provide the picture/comment you want an opinion about

Exactly. If OP asked "what times are the trains from Leeds to London today?" I'd Google the answer. Not if she wanted an opinion on Harper Beckham's dress....I'd expect a photo of said dress. If I googled it, I may have got loads!

Letsbefriends · 01/10/2022 11:01

I don’t like seeing little girls wearing clothes intended for adults. But looking at this, she looks like a little girl wearing one of her mums dresses…which I suspect is the intended look! No big deal for me here.

7eleven · 01/10/2022 11:01

I think the dress is horrid but she looks like she’s raided her mum’s wardrobe for dress up play.
