AIBU?

To wash pyjamas after each wear?

I wash my pyjamas after every wear, however this leads to LOADS of laundry every week… I’m wondering if I can cut down by wearing my pjs longer? They don’t smell but I’m not sure if this would be gross through, like I don’t wear knickers under them … So is it the same territory as rewearing dirty pants??🤔

How often do you wash your pyjamas? Like what is the normal pyjama etiquette? Would I be a complete tramp to put back on my dirty pjs?

It's about pyjamas, not a pair of pants.

I save on the washing by wearing absolutely nothing in bed. Can't understand the idea of wearing all these layers under a duvet. Like going to bed in a coat. And I have the window wide open too - all year round.

Same. Washing 7 pairs of pyjamas a wekk times the number in your house...plsu that probably means you're washing towels ervy time and all kinds of other wasteful shit....you're killing the planet.

And anyone doing that much needless washing...you had better not be the same people complaining about your electric bill!

I wear knickers to bed and change PJs/nightshirt twice a week.

I haven’t slept naked since having my son 16 years ago. We are an open door family and and we coslept on and off until he was about 4 and after that he would come and get in the big bed first thing for a few years. Obviously he doesn’t do that now but will wander in for a chat or to fuss the dog and me being naked wouldn’t be comfortable for either of us!

i also love cosy pjs especially in winter.

Knickers to bed? My mum always told me you needed to air your bits, so that's what I do. No washing involved here 😅

I love to lie near the open window to air the bits, it's blissful!

Oh I just actually realized why I wear pants in bed/under PJs, I have to apply all these gunky lotions and potions to my neather region

It's the 21st century ffs. Women, listen to me, it's OK to let your body be naked. It's no shameful or disgusting or "grim" to be naked in bed. You do not need knickers. Your planet matters more than your pjs.

I don't do it because it's grim or shameful. I wear pyjamas because my bedroom gets very cold in winter (even with the heating on).

I wear knickers because if I didn't I fear the trouser seam on my pyjamas would chafe my bits, plus if ever I go without undies I end up with discharge all over my inner thigh which I find uncomfortable.

I've got the highest tog duvet I could find, and we have an electric blanket on for the first hour we're in bed in winter, and it's still fucking cold. Not to mention if you need to get out of bed in the night
.

I think someone needs to "check their privilege", as the young ones say. A large proportion of British homes do not have adequate insulation.

I heard that some Americans change their sheets every time they have sex 😳

I’m sorry. But this is so bad for the environment. We’ve got people not able to have fresh drinking water and you’ve got people like yourselves washing things after one use!

I don't wear pyjama bottoms in bed, only to doss around the house in. I wear knickers and a pyjama top for bed. I always wear knickers under pyjamas, though, so only wash the bottoms twice a week

Wear a small slip night dress and clean knickers and wash them daily or when doing next wash but as satin type material doesn't bulk out the washing much.

I need to come back to this with a bit of honesty. I actually burn my house down every morning and start from scratch. It costs a lot but I know everything is clean

You don't burn down your town? Slattern!

I truly don't know whether I'm just some bizarre outlier here but... what aftermath exactly? Why does whether someone wear pants make a difference to the aftermath?

I'm very genuinely confused and possibly need enlightenment. Are we not all going to the loo after sex anyway for UTI purposes?

Don't the naked sleepers need to change their sheets more often than the PJ'd though? Sheets make a whole wash whereas a couple of pairs of PJs just go in with general clothes wash.

Flippin heck, if my whole family did that I'd be washing 35 pairs of PJs per week!

Mine get washed once per year when they return from holiday with me.
Otherwise they never even see the light of day.

These threads always turn into a bun fight between the ‘not wearing knickers and/or not washing your PJ bottoms daily is DISGUSTING’ crowd and the ‘your vagina needs to breathe!!!’ crowd. It’s all a bit unnecessary and, like most things in life, comes mainly down to personal preference.

If you can sleep comfortably and it keeps you warm/cool enough at night then that’s good enough, your choice of bedtime attire probably won’t have a meaningful impact on your health and hygiene. Plenty of people sleep without pants and don’t wash their PJs daily and have lived to tell the tale for many years. Equals plenty of people happily sleep in knickers without suffering from chronic yeast infections.

That’s probably far too reasonable an answer for AIBU though.

Lunabun, even if you hose down after sex, there's plenty of free fluids, I don't want running down my legs and into the bed all night, or does everyone else use condoms

I think I'm experiencing a vastly different amount of fluid to you 🤣 after I've been to the loo, that's 90% of it gone. Maybe I have a weird shaped cervix or something and it's like... being retained...

I think the voting is a bit skewed as I answered YANBU in reply to your last question about putting back on “dirty” PJs but it seems most voted the other way, possibly that you are currently being unreasonable.

FWIW washing your PJs after every wear is crazy. I bet they don’t last that long.

Hmm so general opinion is it’s ok to wear for longer if wearing pants? … I wouldn’t want to wear thongs to bed tho … may have to buy some comfy granny pants, they can be my bedtime pants… Wonder what my partner will think of them haha 😁

I was always taught to air my bits at night too , not sure why 🤣

Also to those suggested sleeping naked, I just couldn’t get cosy without my pjs, sleeping naked just feels wrong 😱 … I even have to put my pjs back on after sexy time lol … Also sleeping naked would mean the sheets changing every day then?

And I don’t have a medical condition or sweat or anything at night. My pyjamas still smell clean after wearing, but it’s just the thought of them being against my foo all night and then putting them back on… But I am clean so hmm I don’t know really🤔

And regards to the environment, anyone have the Samsung bubble washing machine? The eco wash on it takes hours and seems to make my clothes more bobbly then the other programs.
