To wash pyjamas after each wear?
Chloefairydust · 28/09/2022 04:36
I wash my pyjamas after every wear, however this leads to LOADS of laundry every week… I’m wondering if I can cut down by wearing my pjs longer? They don’t smell but I’m not sure if this would be gross through, like I don’t wear knickers under them … So is it the same territory as rewearing dirty pants??🤔
How often do you wash your pyjamas? Like what is the normal pyjama etiquette? Would I be a complete tramp to put back on my dirty pjs?
Am I being unreasonable?

Nighties or big t shirts for me. Hate the restrictive feeling of pyjama bottoms and it would be even worse with knickers as well.
And pyjama bottoms without knickers would lead to the laundry dilemma OP is describing.
I save my total of two sets of pyjamas for staying overnight with friends type situations.

How much damage does your genitals do to your PJs overnight?! Even if you don't wear them more than once, you don't need to wash them daily. Stick them all in together at the end of the week.
This is true!
I think if I had a period (especially a heavy one) or urine condition which meant I weed more then I'd wash a lot.
The only times I can recall washing PJs and undercarriage/bum area more was when I had threadworms as a child. Unless there's another medical condition and you shower/cats lick wash daily you really shouldn't need to wash loads and nightwear either. I think...

This thread totally reaffirms the evidence that since the invention of modern domestic appliances we haven’t done less work - we’ve just upped our standards. Anyone washing pjs every day is taking themselves back to the 1950s. Domestic life has got easier, chill out and enjoy it.

Unless you’re really filthy, this is wholly unnecessary and woefully bad for the environment.
Agree
You can wear the same PJ top all week, and only change bottoms when actually dirty (it's not like daytime knickers, as activities so different)

I never wear pants to bed and wear pj's for two-three days. My pjs are baggy and I have no discharge. My parts smell good and I don't know why we have vagina phobia.
Thank goodness at least some people are talking sense!
Loose fitting pyjama bottoms that make little to no contact with your genitals, worn for roughly 8 hours overnight when you’re lying in bed and barely moving, do not become ‘disgusting’ from one wear. I can’t believe the hygiene hysteria on here.
Autumn101 · 28/09/2022 09:52
It’s not a hygiene thing for me, I just love the feeling of clean pjs!
I can’t remember the last time I washed my jeans, the towels and sheets get done about a week after I think they look like they need a wash so my vest and little shorts don’t make a huge impact to our overall household washing.

I go through two pairs of PJs a week. They start to feel a bit damp and smell of BO if I leave them much longer than that. But 3 or 4 nights is usually fine.
I always wear knickers under them though (doesn't the seam of the trousers chafe your bits??!)
If you don't want to wear knickers, how about only washing the bottoms every day and washing the tops less frequently? That would cut down the pyjama laundry by half.
By washing your PJs every day, you're effectively doubling the amount of laundry you do as compared to most people.

I'm now worried there is something wrong with me.
After a day of being worn my pants definitely need washed and my jeans get a bit fragrant in the crotch area after 2-3 wears. I shower every day.
I always assumed this was normal, but maybe it's not ?
Pants and jeans worn while moving around in the day are completely different to PJ bottoms worn for 8 hours overnight, while sleeping.

There's nothing wrong with you - but pants and tight jeans are different from pyjamas. MN gets a bit mad with competitive hygiene sometimes.

It's the 21st century ffs. Women, listen to me, it's OK to let your body be naked. It's no shameful or disgusting or "grim" to be naked in bed. You do not need knickers. Your planet matters more than your pjs.
People are perfectly entitled to wear night clothes should they choose to.
Many of us will have colder houses this winter than we're used to due to high heating costs. Surely it's better for the environment to wear something in bed, rather than crank up the heating?

It's a bit cold though

Are people washing the pyjama tops every day as well? It sounds as though they are. What a waste!
Kim and Aggie say twice a week for washing pyjama trousers. It’s still warm enough now for a nightie so that can be washed once a week and definitely no knicks.
I would rather tend towards being dirty than prissy/obsessive/unhinged.
