To wash pyjamas after each wear?

Chloefairydust · 28/09/2022 04:36

I wash my pyjamas after every wear, however this leads to LOADS of laundry every week… I’m wondering if I can cut down by wearing my pjs longer? They don’t smell but I’m not sure if this would be gross through, like I don’t wear knickers under them … So is it the same territory as rewearing dirty pants??🤔

How often do you wash your pyjamas? Like what is the normal pyjama etiquette? Would I be a complete tramp to put back on my dirty pjs?

Funny how times have changed. In my eyes now I see people who shower everyday , have clean pjs everyday and only wear clothes once as been well off.
I could afford to be washing my clothes this much. Also. Don’t they wear out quicker if U are only wearing them for 8 hours and washing them. I wonder what people do for jobs who have to do this.

BruceAndNosh · 28/09/2022 08:43

I wear nighties to avoid this dilemma. Wearing knickers in bed always ends up with a self inflicted wedgie

ErrolTheDragon · 28/09/2022 08:44

I bathe at night just before bed and my PJs are loose. No way do they need washing every day.

In summer it's a nightdress with (sometimes) Big Pants - they go in the wash but are insignificant.

PuppyMonkey · 28/09/2022 08:47

Can’t sleep in pyjama or a nightie - never have been able to but particularly now as I get regular hot flushes.Just wear knickers and nowt else. I have never yet faced any issues about “airing my bits” overnight and I’m nearly 56. Will let you know if this situation changes.Grin

rookiemere · 28/09/2022 08:48

I always wondered about this with pjs and is the main reason I wear nighties instead.

I shower in the morning so if I wore pjs without pants I would only want to wear them say twice at the very most. I hadn't thought about clean pants underneath for night time , I suppose that could work.

Mumsnet = I only wear anything once before washing, change sheets weekly and wash my towels daily! Everything else is disgusting

Also mumsnet = my bills are skyrocketing, the environment is going to pot and I have too much washing and never get a break.

OP I wear my pyjamas for a week unless they get dirty and need it before then or there's a change in temperature so want different ones.

this is the most sensible thing I've read

I wear my pyjamas for a few days - I shower daily and am clean

MooseBreath · 28/09/2022 08:51

I don't wear pajamas and certainly don't wash my sheets every day.

Pajamas don't need to be washed every day unless they smell. The level of laundry that people constantly wash is really harmful to the environment and is totally unsustainable. So much waste in the name of "hygiene" where wearing something for a few days isn't even unhygienic.

ginslinger · 28/09/2022 08:53

I need to come back to this with a bit of honesty. I actually burn my house down every morning and start from scratch. It costs a lot but I know everything is clean

On point.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 28/09/2022 09:00

I change my PJs once a fortnight. Whether they need it or not.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 28/09/2022 09:09

if u wash ur pjs and clothes everyday where r u hanging all this washing all day everyday. I assume a tumble dryer. Which again is expensive. If u can afford it crack on. If not. And ur paying money u don’t have for energy to wash things that are not dirty that’s insane

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 28/09/2022 09:10

Also. If u think people who don’t wash their pjs every day are complete tramps that is insane. Just insane.

winniemum · 28/09/2022 05:15

Wearing just pj bottoms is the same as wearing knickers, so yes you need to wash them after every wear.
I got fed up of the volume of laundry so now wear a pj top and just knickers to bed. I’m not having to wash 7 pairs of pj bottoms a week and am just as warm under the duvet.

Not the same. Pjs are much looser fitting. Therefore for ok for a few days. Pants are very close so need changing every night.

User4738737383647474 · 28/09/2022 09:13

Not much help but I wear clean pjs every day too. I do sometimes get sweaty, plus I do get up and do housework in them first thing before showering and getting dressed. I can't imagine them wearing them for much longer.

maybe if I was to put them on just before bed and take them off immediately after getting up I'd wear them again... but I do put them on a couple hours before bed.

I am a generally messy person with food etc so clothes or pjs don't stay clean too long 😅

BadNomad · 28/09/2022 09:14

How much damage does your genitals do to your PJs overnight?! Even if you don't wear them more than once, you don't need to wash them daily. Stick them all in together at the end of the week.

KimberleyClark · 28/09/2022 09:20

Dontsparethehorses · 28/09/2022 05:26

I can’t wear underwear in bed, hate it. I wear pjs for a week and wash. They don’t smell it’s only me and dh who see them. Same with children’s… I couldn’t be doing with the increased washing and now associated cost!

Same!

CFLandlordStory · 28/09/2022 09:21

I wear loose fitting and change every two to three days. No pants.
Unless there has been some action the night before, then they get washed no matter

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 28/09/2022 09:22

rocketfromthecrypt · 28/09/2022 06:23

This. People really don't think. Unless you have a medical condition that makes you shed loads of skin or sweat to excess, or have got other bodily fluids on them, there is absolutely no need to wash pyjamas after every wear.

@rocketfromthecrypt With that logic, do you not wear clean knickers every day?

agriefobserved · 28/09/2022 09:24

I got a week+ with my pajamas! Although I normally only wear a t-shirt, but leggings if it's cold. I always wear pants.

I wear the shirt until I have a shower before bed (rare), it feels old, or I look and it and think "that could do with a wash".

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 28/09/2022 09:25

lovemelongtime · 28/09/2022 05:18

Knickers to bed? My mum always told me you needed to air your bits, so that's what I do. No washing involved here 😅

So do you sleep with the covers off - legs akimbo?

That's the only way I can imagine air would get to your fanny at bed time 😂

Hugasauras · 28/09/2022 09:26

It's not a hygiene thing for me particularly, I'm plenty slovenly elsewhere. I just like the feel of fresh clean PJs every night! It doesn't add masses to washing as no one else either wears PJs or if they do washes them daily in the house so it's just my little foible Wink I make up for it by barely ever washing towels.

rocketfromthecrypt · 28/09/2022 09:27

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination yes, because I wear knickers for about 15/16 hours a day, and they're skin tight. My pyjamas are on for 8 hours max and aren't right up my arse.

MrsSwnllyd · 28/09/2022 09:28

Baffled as to why some people think there is no air under the bedcovers, do you vacuum pack yourselves in every night? 😅

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 28/09/2022 09:29

I sleep skyclad - solves the issue completely....

But you are being completely unreasonable. No wonder MN is always complaining about having 8 loads of washing to do a day.

Redglitter · 28/09/2022 09:29

Skelligsfeathers · 28/09/2022 07:42

Why are you all wearing clothing for bed when naked us so much more comfortable?

In your opinion it is. Clearly not everyone agrees
