For wanting to do a Ouija board for a laugh?

Next year DH and I are staying in a castle thought to be the most haunted in Britain. DH says he doesn’t believe in stuff like that, I’m on the fence really but more towards not believing. I think the most likely scenario if ghosts ARE real is that they’re historical residue and not intelligent entities. But even that is a stretch.

So, I’d like to do a ouija board when we’re there for a laugh. The castle is in the middle of nowhere so there isn’t much else to do on an evening other than drink (which I don’t do) and watch Netflix!

DH is point blank refusing saying he isn’t messing about with stuff like that. But he’s a non believer??! So what’s the harm?

If he doesn’t believe in it, am I being unreasonable to ask him to do it?

Do not.

Hoardasurass · 24/09/2022 08:33

Yes yabu in expecting anyone to sit around doing fuck all whilst you "wait " on a "spirit " turning up because there is no such thing and the only time the pointer moves is when someone pushes/moves.
Honestly as someone who doesn't believe in any spirits, ghosts or even any kind of soul there's no way I would agree with taking part in any bullshit spiritual crap

Perfect28 · 24/09/2022 08:34

Yes yabu because it's bollocks and you're very unimaginative if the three things you can think of doing are drink, Netflix and a ouiji board

clairethewitch70 · 24/09/2022 08:36

Please don’t do it. I have had to pick up the pieces and do pastoral care and house cleansings for people who dabble with stuff they can’t handle.

LadybirdsAreNeverHappy · 24/09/2022 08:38

Is he afraid to do it or does he just think it’s stupid? “I’m not messing about with stuff like that “ could mean either.

QueSyrahSyrah · 24/09/2022 08:40

Wildly unreasonable to ask anyone to do a Ouji board ever.

Buy a book. Take a board game. Talk. Play cards. Have sex. Sleep.

Well, what would YOU do?

I do like going for walks in the woods but last time a giant stag came running out in front of us and we were charged by an angry badger so I’ve been a bit put off!

Housecleansing lol. This shit's not real, sorry to break it to you.

He said he did one as a teenager and loads of awful stuff happened 🙄 same old cliche story people come out with

Can you elaborate @clairethewitch70

Testina · 24/09/2022 08:42

Don't do it.

Yeah I know 😂 I couldn’t think of a better way to put it

If he is uncomfortable with it then you don't do it. You have to respect his views. For you it's 'a bit of fun' for him it causes a genuine mental discomfort. Despite non belief, humans are naturally superstitious.

A Ouija board is just a parlour game...

You're not actually summoning spirits of dead people who decide to move a counter across a board to communicate.

SquatBetty · 24/09/2022 08:44

Ouija boards are bollocks - this is how they 'work'

How does your evening in this castle look?

Pootles34 · 24/09/2022 08:45

If you think it will be boring, why are you going? I'm really not woo but generally making someone do something they don't want to is a bit shitty.

AssumingDirectControl · 24/09/2022 08:46

It’s a parlour game. Hasbro made them. We know how they work and it’s nothing to do with ghosts. Still, you can’t force him.

stormywhethers321 · 24/09/2022 08:46

It's your time and holiday so do as you like! But really, they're pieces of pressboard and plastic that you buy in toy shops. You'll have just as much luck contacting the spirit realm with a fake phone filled with gummies.

Dotcheck · 24/09/2022 08:47

Just read your update OP
You sound like a jerk.
He said he had a bad experience- you don’t believe his ‘cliché’d’ story’. He’s clearly saying no, and you’re trying to steamroll him into it by saying his story is unimportant to you.

I’m Im really confused why you would want to do it. Do you believe in it or not?
If you don’t, ( as your reaction to his story would suggest), then why do it?
If you DO believe in it, then why don’t you believe your husband’s cliche’d story?

custardbear · 24/09/2022 08:49

I wouldn't - albeit it was a board game, the mind plays tricks on you

Mammyloveswine · 24/09/2022 08:54

I would NEVER do a ouji board! Also I won't say candyman 5 times in the mirror... nor will I say Bloody Mary etc!
