To ask if your company has said anything about the bank holiday?

I work for a big company, we always have bank holidays off. My husband works for a small company and bank holidays come out his leave allowance but the business is always closed. Neither of our companies have acknowledged the bank holiday next Monday. I have meetings booked - my boss and my 'big boss' haven't heard anything from the powers that be. Has your company said anything?

Yes we are a small company as in small team but have lots of large international clients. We had enough email yesterday (Sunday) saying we have it off as an extra bank holiday.
our contract is x amount of annual leave days plus bank holidays

Swannning · 12/09/2022 17:06

We are closed (work in a school).

DS (works for a small business) will have the day off but has volunteered to be on call.

DD (works for the home of the steak bake) is still waiting to be told

KnickerlessParsons · 12/09/2022 17:07

What are you expecting them to say? It's a bank holiday ergo no work on Monday.

Iguanainanigloo · 12/09/2022 17:07

We've heard nothing, and staff (and customers) are kicking off about wanting to know if we're open/closed/reduced hours. Waiting for HQ to confirm, as everyone wants/needs to know!

EmergencyPoncho · 12/09/2022 17:07

Knickerless it's not mandatory.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 12/09/2022 17:07

We get paid double for bank holidays.

Care home, we never close.

Yes, they advised us we've got the day off as an extra bank holiday.

iratepirate · 12/09/2022 17:08

I run a small business with a lot of international clients, so sadly bank holiday or not, I’ll be working.
I’ve given my employees the option of the day off and I assume they’ll all take it.
I hope your company tell you soon.

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 12/09/2022 17:10

Still waiting for advice here, NHS. Lord knows whether staff will be encouraged to bring their children to work if the decision is to go ahead with everything.

Icanstillrecallourlastsummer · 12/09/2022 17:10

Yes but only just this afternoon. I guess they need a couple of hours to work everything out given it was announced over the weekend.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 12/09/2022 17:11

I also work for a large company and we've heard nothing so far.

Hugasauras · 12/09/2022 17:12

We have to work bank holidays in general (work in the media so it will be an even busier day than usual for us!) but will get an extra day to take as holiday. I'm on mat leave so just get it added to my entitlement.

Aubriella · 12/09/2022 17:12

bank holidays come out his leave allowance but the business is always close

Is that legal? Forcing employees not to work BHs and being unpaid for them?

EfficientDynamics · 12/09/2022 17:13

We're off, 200 employees at this site

Hotandbothereds · 12/09/2022 17:13

We’ve had no company wide Comms but we asked our team leader earlier and had it confirmed that we can take it as a bank holiday.

Sparklesocks · 12/09/2022 17:14

I work at a large company (office based) and we will be closed, as well as our warehouse.

I have my first midwife appt on Monday but they’re not sure if they’ll be open or not 😵‍💫

Hotandbothereds · 12/09/2022 17:14

KnickerlessParsons · 12/09/2022 17:07

What are you expecting them to say? It's a bank holiday ergo no work on Monday.

Lots of businesses open on standard bank holidays and businesses don’t legally have to give this one, it’s up to individual businesses to make a decision.

Twinstudy · 12/09/2022 17:15

We had an email this morning saying it will be treated like any other bank holiday, which most of us get in addition to our annual leave. I'm off next week so already had it booked off but manager has cancelled my leave Monday so I've got a day back which is nice :)

eatyourcrustspls · 12/09/2022 17:16

I'm NHS (community) and waiting to be told. School is closed and husband is away that week with work so I need it off. Just waiting to hear about DD's nursery.

CeeJay81 · 12/09/2022 17:17

Same here. Still waiting to hear officially whats happening from head office, work in a supermarket. Store manager will accommodate people wanting the time off but don't know yet if I'll have to make up the time another day, take it out of my annual leave or if it'll be added as a extra bank holiday to annual leave.

Atmywitsend29 · 12/09/2022 17:18

Mine hasn't said anything. But none of the frontline staff will get it off which seems unfair.

That said, our head office is round the corner from Westminster Abbey so I can't imagine any of head office will be going in!

bananaboats · 12/09/2022 17:18

We got an email today confirming the office will be closed and we are getting it as an additional holiday day.

Beezknees · 12/09/2022 17:18

Yes. Assigning holiday is common in my industry. We get 10 days of our own to choose, the rest of it is dictated by the employers. It's due to the nature of the work having extremely busy periods and then much quieter periods.

GettingOrganisedNow · 12/09/2022 17:19

Nothing so far. I've no idea whether we'll be off or not.
