To ask if your company has said anything about the bank holiday?

I work for a big company, we always have bank holidays off. My husband works for a small company and bank holidays come out his leave allowance but the business is always closed. Neither of our companies have acknowledged the bank holiday next Monday. I have meetings booked - my boss and my 'big boss' haven't heard anything from the powers that be. Has your company said anything?

We are closed

@Monikaar not really sure what you mean by this. BH do not come out of my leave allowance.

Yes, they do. If you are a full time employee then your legal minimum annual leave is 28 days. The vast majority of companies style this as “20 days (minimum) plus bank holidays,” as there are eight of them.

@Monikaar my leave is 28 days, bank holidays and Christmas closure days are separate.

Yes, as I said companies will often separate this out. So your company are going far above the legal minimum by offering 39 (ish, assuming Christmas = 3) days of paid annual leave.

I think the clue must be in the name. Unless you work for a bank I would probably assume you are working unless they have said you can have a day off.......

Having said upthread that I work for a local authority that it looks like we will be working, this morning they have finally said we’ll be getting it off, apart from emergency cover and critical services that must continue obviously . They do like to leave things to the last minute.

Are you in the UK? Are you familiar with bank holidays, why they are so-called but also what they actually are?
