To ask if your company has said anything about the bank holiday?

I work for a big company, we always have bank holidays off. My husband works for a small company and bank holidays come out his leave allowance but the business is always closed. Neither of our companies have acknowledged the bank holiday next Monday. I have meetings booked - my boss and my 'big boss' haven't heard anything from the powers that be. Has your company said anything?

We're closed but I mostly work with the Crown Estate and Royal Parks. All the physical RP staff will be in.

Americano75 · 12/09/2022 17:20

Not heard anything yet which is typical of my work. No doubt they'll hum and haw until the last second.

Campervangirl · 12/09/2022 17:22

Big rail company, our stat holiday entitlement increased by one today but it took until the end of the day for the company to confirm

AvonCallingBarksdale · 12/09/2022 17:25

We’re closed and, as per normal, our part time staff will need to take it as A/L or work an alternative day, which has, as usual, caused lots of “that’s not fair” ructions.

CMOTDibbler · 12/09/2022 17:26

We got an email this afternoon to say that we will be given it as an extra paid day off, and those who have to work for essential reasons will get a day off in lieu

CombatBarbie · 12/09/2022 17:26

Aldi is closed

itsgettingweird · 12/09/2022 17:27

Yes.

But I work in a school so we are just closed and afaik it's an extra BH like jubilee was.

janj2301 · 12/09/2022 17:32

I work for a GP, we had to wait for NHS Engalnd to rule, about 11am they said we had to open, then a couple of hours later said we would be closed.

BeanCounterBabe · 12/09/2022 17:38

I work for a large NHS hospital. Haven’t been told yet. I am not patient facing and manage my own, and team I manage, workload but I expect we will have to come in in solidarity with clinical staff. DH will be at home with the kids.

BearSoFair · 12/09/2022 17:39

I work in 'food on the go' retail, we were told we'd hear by 3pm today...now 3pm tomorrow. I'd be surprised if we do open but you never know!

Andromachehadabadday · 12/09/2022 17:40

We got it confirmed today. We are closed. And it’s been treated as a planned bank holiday. So we are getting paid for it

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 12/09/2022 17:40

We got told it’s a day off this afternoon.

Loobyloo68 · 12/09/2022 17:42

Email on Saturday, we aren't working. RM

PuppyMonkey · 12/09/2022 17:45

I work for a small biz and got told we’ll be closed Monday.

I have a colleague who is part time and doesn’t work Mondays - she gets BH pro rata added onto her annual leave. Boss says he doesn’t have to do that with this one though so as she doesn’t work on Mondays she won’t get an extra day off added another time.… not entirely sure he’s correct? Anyone else know?

Womencanlift · 12/09/2022 17:46

We got told on Thursday evening (although I didn’t see it until Friday) that we would be closed whenever the funeral would be. It was part of the email sent out by the CEO giving his condolences

Lots of meetings today trying to sort out things that are already in the pipeline for next week that now cannot be done

They need to be given extra pro rata hours of leave to put towards the day- or they are being treated less favourably than full time staff.

shinynewapple22 · 12/09/2022 17:47

There is apparently discussion that we may have to work on the bank holiday although I have heard nothing officially one way or another.

Public service organisation but my role is not one which is 24/7 - there are specific staff who have such roles - so why there is question around staff such as myself I have no idea .

XelaM · 12/09/2022 17:48

Yes, we get the day off (I work in a university) and the building is closed

Aubriella · 12/09/2022 17:12

bank holidays come out his leave allowance but the business is always close

Is that legal? Forcing employees not to work BHs and being unpaid for them?

Yes it is

MumsHairnet · 12/09/2022 17:51

Local authority looks like we’ll be working.

RoachTheHorse · 12/09/2022 17:51

Yes. We had an email saying all meetings and work appointments would be cancelled and we'll be closed.

Wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat · 12/09/2022 17:51

Just an email saying they are still deciding what to do. This will probably take them till late Friday to sort out. I can’t see us closing as they seem to think the universe will break off they shut.

gettingolderandgrumpier · 12/09/2022 17:53

Not heard yet , I’ve asked and it’s not decided yet probably last minute.

tentontobias · 12/09/2022 17:54

Your part time staff should get the extra added on to their leave allowance so it's fair. If they don't, it's discriminatory. I don't work on Mondays, so I'll have 3/5 of a normal working day's worth of hours added to my leave allowance to take at a later date.
