To ask if your company has said anything about the bank holiday?

I work for a big company, we always have bank holidays off. My husband works for a small company and bank holidays come out his leave allowance but the business is always closed. Neither of our companies have acknowledged the bank holiday next Monday. I have meetings booked - my boss and my 'big boss' haven't heard anything from the powers that be. Has your company said anything?

I work for a small biz and got told we’ll be closed Monday.

I have a colleague who is part time and doesn’t work Mondays - she gets BH pro rata added onto her annual leave. Boss says he doesn’t have to do that with this one though so as she doesn’t work on Mondays she won’t get an extra day off added another time.… not entirely sure he’s correct? Anyone else know?

It depends on the contract. If it says days/hours plus Bank Holidays it should be given as an allowance.

If the contract says ie 28 days inclusive of bank holidays it doesn't need to be given.

My dh works for a big US firm ( in the UK). They've said they won't recognise it.

I run a small business and my clients (from big UK based firms) have cancelled and want to rearrange.

theemmadilemma · 12/09/2022 17:58

Large global company.

Uk HR confirmed it this am.

Local authority looks like we’ll be working.

Interesting as I'm local authority, and we've been told it's a day off and the Town Hall closed. Must be up to individual authorities to decide. It's not being added to our HR system as it's about giving everybody that particular day off to be able to mourn the Queen/watch the funeral, rather than an extra day of leave to be added to your entitlement. So I guess people who don't work on Mondays won't benefit (although I don't know that for sure).

BabyDreamers · 12/09/2022 17:58

Mine hasn't actually said anything but there is now no appointments in the diary for Monday they've all been rearranged and BANK HOLIDAY is wrote across the page instead. So I assume we are off 🤣

Thurlow · 12/09/2022 18:00

City firm. We had an email earlier saying it was a bank holiday and we can take it off, but that the office would still be open if anyone needed or wanted to work.

BabyDreamers · 12/09/2022 18:00

Our local authority has been re-arranging / cancelling all the appointments today.

Ah yes, it’s the latter - 28 days inclusive of bank holidays. Thanks, just interested.

NHS and absolute nothing has been said. nobody seems to know in our trust. We assume they are desperately trying to work out of they can get out of it behind the scenes.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 12/09/2022 18:03

Medium sized business. We are closed.

OfficiallyBroken · 12/09/2022 18:04

Large company. Head of HR confirmed we'll be assigned the bank holiday as per contract. Our bank holidays are on top of annual leave and some people work in 24/7 teams so that pretty much covers any questions any scenario that could come up for us.

Personally it means I don't have to work which feels somewhat hypocritical as a non-royalist. I can't swap with the 24/7 people because I'm not qualified, but at least they get their bank holiday bonus payments.

GalactiCat · 12/09/2022 18:07

Veterinary. Open as usual.
We only shut Christmas Day and New Year's Day. We'll be extremely busy as everyone else will be off .

Nidan2Sandan · 12/09/2022 18:07

I work in social housing and we have been told we will be closed for all but emergencies.

NotMyDust · 12/09/2022 18:08

How much AL do you get?

We were told this morning we would be off.

WimbyAce · 12/09/2022 18:12

NHS, told we would be told about leave in due course.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 12/09/2022 18:13

Very small business, opening but shorter hours to allow for those who want to watch.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/09/2022 18:15

Yes we had an email saying an extra BH

hellcatspangle · 12/09/2022 18:16

KnickerlessParsons · 12/09/2022 17:07

What are you expecting them to say? It's a bank holiday ergo no work on Monday.

Plenty of places stay open on bank holidays.

AloysiusBear · 12/09/2022 18:17

Yes. An email went to UK staff confirming we all get it as a paid bank holiday.

CurrentHun · 12/09/2022 18:18

I still don’t know if we can take it for the funeral but might then have to work on a different bank holiday. I’m fairly sure we only get 8 contractually

That is correct from my understanding of it, it's not legally required the same way as others
