To ask if your company has said anything about the bank holiday?

I work for a big company, we always have bank holidays off. My husband works for a small company and bank holidays come out his leave allowance but the business is always closed. Neither of our companies have acknowledged the bank holiday next Monday. I have meetings booked - my boss and my 'big boss' haven't heard anything from the powers that be. Has your company said anything?

Yes nhs. Most things in our theatre depth is cancelled apart from cancer ops. Outpatients all cancelled. I'm non clinical so have a day off.

charabang · 12/09/2022 20:51

I work for an academic institution. Teaching has been suspended but professional services staff are expected to support students. Hopefully this will be voluntary but there is no way I'm going in even if I have to take it as annual leave.

TheRainbowLady · 12/09/2022 20:53

I work for a Building Society in the Head Office. Not been told anything yet.

I assume they’re still working out the details. If they do make us come in nobody will do much anyway and we will watch on our phones/computers (I work in admin so this is possible and my TM is a big royalist, she’s been wearing black every day and crying)

browneyes77 · 12/09/2022 20:58

Nothing confirmed for us yet. Just that we will be advised on any further updates in the coming days.

My Boss thinks it’s likely us HO staff will get it off. We did for the Jubilee. Our store staff may not however unless they reduce opening hours on the day or close stores entirely.

lemonyanus · 12/09/2022 21:09

BH in my work but I don't work on Mondays anyway. Not sure if it'll be added on to leave in the usual way but I don't think it will.

berksandbeyond · 12/09/2022 21:18

Yes we have been told they will be honouring the bank holiday.

DH hasn't been told yet but we expect he will not be working.

DDs school is closed.

Horcruxe · 12/09/2022 21:24

Work in a GP surgery.

Got a letter from NHS England stating we could close if we wanted with some caveats.

So locally some GP surgeries are shut, others are still umming and ahhing about what to do.

I think we will be shut. Got over 50 appointments to rebook- mainly with the nurses, and apparently we have to rebook them within 2 weeks of the appointment. As they are mostly nurse appointments, they are long appointments some over 45 minutes long.

Desolate2nite · 12/09/2022 21:55

Betting shop, I assume we'll be working because we never close for Bank Holidays

janj2301 · 13/09/2022 01:27

B&Q are closed AMAZING

NorthernLights5 · 13/09/2022 02:45

We get paid double for bank holidays.

Care home, we never close. Also care homes and we get bugger all extra pay! Some of them don't even pay overtime for Christmas!

Floofboopsnootandbork · 13/09/2022 03:33

I work in healthcare so defo won’t be a day off but we’re still waiting to hear whether or not it’ll be paid double pay like all other bank holidays or not. I’m not technically working that day but working Sunday night so will be in until 7:30 Monday morning, will be nice to know if I’m getting a bit of extra money or not haha

Runwayqueen · 13/09/2022 07:19

Airport staff so whilst our admin teams will be off those who are operational will be working.

WimbyAce · 13/09/2022 11:27

Our NHS Trust has just confirmed it will be treated as normal bank holiday so those that dont normally work bank hols won't be working and normal pay arrangements for those that do. Also to raise if childcare issues.

AffIt · 13/09/2022 11:51

Ooh, just received a msg from the CEO - yep, official bank holiday for all UK / Commonwealth staff.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 13/09/2022 12:50

We had an update this morning confirming only business critical staff will be working but will be given an additional days annual leave.

gamerchick · 13/09/2022 12:59

Apparently we're off, no pay unless we use annual leave which I have no more of. Schools shut but husband has to work as a normal day.

A bit gutted as Mondays is my longest day and I'm paid hourly. Apparently we're not supposed to moan or anything.

BirdyWoof · 13/09/2022 13:07

We haven’t heard anything either.

I know we’ll be open but for the Jubilee we got an extra day’s holiday added to our balance and could take it whenever we wanted. Hoping for a similar situation here. But as I said, nothing yet. I imagine the CEOs are currently deciding and we’ll know in a day or two.

Idunnowhyibother · 13/09/2022 13:11

Work for a smallish company - we've been told we can have it as a bank holiday if we like (if our workloads are up to date enough to allow it) Clear as mud!

Bank holidays come out of everyone’s leave allowance.

Are bookies opening? Most sport has been cancelled/ postponed

mogtheexcellent · 13/09/2022 13:46

Yep day off paid.

Except Im part time and only get 80% of holiday and bank holiday allowance so its costing me the other 20%.

MirandaWest · 13/09/2022 19:02

My department will be open for 4 hours as a normal bank holiday. However it will be 9-11 and 12:30-2 so people can watch the funeral.

I’ve volunteered to work as I don’t have small children (my only one at school is year 12) whereas others do so makes sense.

MirandaWest · 13/09/2022 19:03

Should have been 12:30-2:30 to make the 4 hours 😳 😃

Royalbloo · 13/09/2022 19:06

Massive company and we are closed.

But numerous calls over the weekend to decide and minimise operational impact. I'm knackered!

I'd expect a decision in the next 2 days if they weren't working it out at the weekend.

TokidokiBarbie · 13/09/2022 19:07

I contract for a big aggregates company and we have the choice. They won't be working but I'm free to deliver to sites at the BH double rate if I wish.
