To say people posting pics of their fuel bills need to stop

I’ve decided that all the people posting screen shots of their energy bills on social media can fuck off !!!

IMO they are as bad as the ones all posting pictures of empty shelves at the beginning of covid / lockdown. and then of petrol stations that had ran out this time last year.

I get that people are worried and scared. I am too. However my bills are my private business and I will deal with them myself. And while it may be that their estimated bills are correct - to just post them up on socials for all to see when everyone is worrying with no real context, just these massive figures is out of order. It is just scaremongering for the sake of it (as everyones is going to be different due to their usage, their house size and house age, amount of people, how good their insulation is etc) so it is causing people even more mass panic and upset and for what end ???

You are being ridiculous. What mass panic is there to create? Your food and petrol examples are nothing like this.

You do not have to look if you are finding it stressful.
YABU people can share their biz if they want.

Gensola · 26/08/2022 19:41

YABU this is a national crisis and not a private matter

Haybo26 · 26/08/2022 19:42

YABU

ShadowoftheFall · 26/08/2022 19:42

I don’t understand why people share their fuel bills, but it’s their business, not yours. YABU

Burgoo · 26/08/2022 19:43

Its what it is. I'm not one for wailing about how hard things are online but some people are. I always wonder what drives behaviour - I expect they are anxious/fearful and want to get it out.

A580Hojas · 26/08/2022 19:44

Well I would snooze them if they are friends of yours. We're all up shit creek. I don't know why people have to make every single thing in life ALL ABOUT ME AND SHARE IT ON FACEBOOK. They can bore off!

Thank goodness I don't know anyone doing this.

Pumperthepumper · 26/08/2022 19:44

I honestly feel we’re on the brink of a revolution. It’s absolutely insane that professional couples on full-time salaries are worrying about bills - so I think YABU. The more people who say ‘this is absolutely fucking ridiculous’, the better.

QuandaleDingle · 26/08/2022 19:40

Sorry, what? 😳

With fuel and food shortages the panic caused panic buying and greater shortages.
What do you think this will result in?

ReneBumsWombats · 26/08/2022 19:45

I guess you'd better inform them of your decision then so they can take appropriate action.

However my bills are my private business and I will deal with them myself.

So don't share yours. But beware. Someone might decide that you need to.

MajorCarolDanvers · 26/08/2022 19:46

It makes a change from pics of their Covid tests.

Caken · 26/08/2022 19:46

YABU, it’s a bloody stressful situation. People can voice their fears and opinions on their own social media, if you don’t like it then hide their posts.

We’re on the brink of something huge here and the more people talk about it and share their experience the better. It’s not the time to suffer in silence, the potential for people to die because of making the choice between heating and eating this winter is very real. If each of us are aware of those who will struggle and are in a position to help in some way at all, then good.

AnneLovesGilbert · 26/08/2022 19:47

I haven’t seen any but wouldn’t be at all angry or upset if I did. They’re literally in blank and white, it’s not scare mongering, it’s their actual bill.

You seem more angry about people doing this than you are about the whole nation being fucked sideways by corporate greed and political incompetence. I’d spend some time looking into why you think that is.

Agree with this.

PestorPeston · 26/08/2022 19:54

@QuandaleDingle you're right people are silly to panic They should adopt a stiff upper lip and be proud that we will have the most expensive electricity on the planet.

Crunchymum · 26/08/2022 19:54

The apathy I'm seeing about the energy costs is astounding.

Put your fingers in your ears, start chanting "La La La" and pretend it isn't happening. That'll do the trick!

GooglyEyeballs · 26/08/2022 20:00

Sharing their obscene energy quotes isn't going to cause a mass of panic shopping though is it so it's not really the same thing. Tbh I find it alarming to see these posts but I do think we need to put some visibility how fucked we all are. Otherwise how will we have any hope of the government doing something about it?

SpiderinaWingMirror · 26/08/2022 20:03

But people will panic
Dd2 works and so does her BF. The price increase will take 60% of the universal credit she gets.

It's not apathy. It's pragmatism.

What pragmatic things are you doing to ensure 90% of your salary isn’t going to utilities?

Thistleinthenight · 26/08/2022 20:04

OP don't be stupid and don't be insensitive

LadyCatStark · 26/08/2022 20:04

Nope. We need to show some solidarity and raise awareness of how bad this is going to be.
