To say people posting pics of their fuel bills need to stop

I’ve decided that all the people posting screen shots of their energy bills on social media can fuck off !!!

IMO they are as bad as the ones all posting pictures of empty shelves at the beginning of covid / lockdown. and then of petrol stations that had ran out this time last year.

I get that people are worried and scared. I am too. However my bills are my private business and I will deal with them myself. And while it may be that their estimated bills are correct - to just post them up on socials for all to see when everyone is worrying with no real context, just these massive figures is out of order. It is just scaremongering for the sake of it (as everyones is going to be different due to their usage, their house size and house age, amount of people, how good their insulation is etc) so it is causing people even more mass panic and upset and for what end ???

Thats stealing. You were there to work.

so TVs should be turned off in bars and nightclubs?

interesting. you should be thinking of ways to cut down on energy not making silly statements on here

In other words "I can afford to pay my bills. I dont want to hear from people who cant. Its uncomfortable"

And when you're paying 90% of your income to keep warm? Will that be OK?

Can't those poor people go and suffer somewhere else? Their scabby shivering children make me feel ill.

tulipfancy · 26/08/2022 21:58

My annual tarrif in October is going from less than a thousand a year to three thousand. Where am I going to magic up two grand a year when already so tight?

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 26/08/2022 21:59

There's a bit of hysteria about pence per kW/h etc and too many are posting images of their meters/bill/smart meters.

The truth is , you get an energy bill ,based on your own household's usage and you need to pay it.

There are ways of off-setting it if you qualify. Your local CAB will advise.

If you can't pay your bill , talk to your energy company first and foremost. They don't k ow that you've got three kids and are looking after your gran.

Whatever you do , DON'T just cancel your direct debit. Aside from trashing your credit rating you're just prolonging your debt repayment. Speak to your energy provider first.

Well I would snooze them if they are friends of yours. We're all up shit creek. I don't know why people have to make every single thing in life ALL ABOUT ME AND SHARE IT ON FACEBOOK. They can bore off!

Thank goodness I don't know anyone doing this.

This!

MoistBandana · 26/08/2022 22:00

The more sharing and public attention the better.

It puts added pressure on those who can do something about it all.

Everyone should putting it out there and contacting MPs and counsellors and energy companies.

get rid of sky tv, mobiles, learn to cook. stop buying non essentials like alcohol, take aways, cigarettes etc. no need for new clothes

Are you Philip Larkin?

I want to see them starving,
The so-called working class.
Their wages weekly halving,
Their women stewing grass.
When I drive out each morning
In one of my new suits
I want to find them fawning
To clean my car and boots.

No, if you’re there to work then get on with it. Don’t use your workplace as an opportunity to catch up on your entertainment for the day. You sound workshy, you should have picked up extra shifts so your parents didn’t have to support you with extra luxuries- although your employers were probably fully aware that you used working hours to catch up on your entertainment (when you took breaks from drawing outside to keep your mind active). Lazy and profligate.

how is watching tv in the background while waiting for customer to want a dance, thieving?! ridiculous

You said you deliberately watched tv at work because you didn’t have one at home. That stealing from your employer, you were there to work. You should have worked harder. Maybe then you could have afforded a tv.

Pumperthepumper · 26/08/2022 22:03

And if you’d worked harder your mum wouldn’t have had to supplement you with luxuries to support your lifestyle.

NorthernLights5 · 26/08/2022 22:05

However my bills are my private business and I will deal with them myself. They're not taking photos of your bills and posting them online though surely? If they are you need to stop leaving your bills lying around! If not thwn I don't see the point of you saying this.

They're not asking you to pay it. I wouldn't post my bills online but others can do what they like!

Also if it's making you angry you need to step away from social media.

BirmaBrite · 26/08/2022 22:07

British Gas has announced that a proportion of its vast profits have been earmarked to help people who are struggling.

That's an interesting statement, does that mean they are going to right off some peoples debts ? Use their vast profits to swap people to pre-payment meters ?

NorthernLights5 · 26/08/2022 22:07

get rid of sky tv, mobiles, learn to cook. stop buying non essentials like alcohol, take aways, cigarettes etc. no need for new clothes I'm embarrassed for you.

I honestly feel we’re on the brink of a revolution. It’s absolutely insane that professional couples on full-time salaries are worrying about bills - so I think YABU. The more people who say ‘this is absolutely fucking ridiculous’, the better.

This. 100 times.

HikingforScenery · 26/08/2022 22:08

I had no idea this is a thing now but I’m not on other sm, really.
I tend to avoid the posts about the hikes in energy prices though because they make me anxious.

HesterShaw1 · 26/08/2022 22:09

It's pretty obvious what the OP means and like so often on MN, some people are choosing to miss the point and become offended.

Of course massive bills with no context are misleading. What kind of energy usage is their norm? What are their thermostats set at? Are they running a tumble dryer for hours a day? Are they growing weed in the loft?

Ok not the last one, but still

Metimeneededasap · 26/08/2022 22:09

I genuinely think that many people are sleepwalking into this crisis/ shitshow and not acknowledging what a bloody disaster it will be by the winter !!

Katypp · 26/08/2022 22:17

I get you OP. Contrary to what most pps have interpreted your post to mean, I think you mean you are sick of the dramatic posts showing bills with no context whatsoever? If that's what you mean, I agree with you.
We're all up shit creek, we all know bills are going to rise massively, why do people need to post their bills and make it about them? Ditto endless posts about 'I bought x last month and it was £1, this month it's £2. Attention seeking drama.
As an aside, I am absolutely amazed at the levels of ignorance shown by some on Facebook posts. I am a silent member of a money-saving group and lots of folk on there seem to think a fixed tarrif means the dd is fixed and proudly state they only pay £50 a month and that will never go up because their tarrif is fixed. These are the people who, when their true usage is recorded, are faced with massive bills, which they then post on Facebook.

MrsRinaDecker · 26/08/2022 22:19

I would just remind anyone sharing bills online to block out full name / address / account number / any bank details, to avoid the risk of identity theft. Otherwise people are free to share what they wish on social media, provided it doesn’t breach guidelines for that platform. And you’re free to unfollow if it bothers you. (It isn’t something I would personally do, but each of their own.)

BogOffTraceyBeaker · 26/08/2022 22:19

British Gas, in their wisdom, are not telling me what my fuel bill will be until the end of September- I can only estimate mine but I find others posting theirs like wow wtf and a lot of HOW MUCH

I think a lot either are wilfully misinterpreting my post or simply don't get it 😳
