To think size 18 is plus size and not 'hardly plus size'

The poster, with a very large following, is saying a size 18 isn't really plus size by much, and that 'most people (in the UK), are above a Size 16?

Really? I don't know that many people above a size 16. I really don't. I know lots and lots of size 12/14 and thought that was about average? It's usually the first sizes to sell out

I think brit men and women have lost the plot. I didn't see 1 male or female person who wasn't ghastly overweight. Apart from being incredibly unhealthy in the short term, the long-term health consequences are incredibly dire.
And no it is not attractive to either sex.

Oh, the point when trying to offend a group of people is to be more selective. You can pick teenagers, middle agers, older people or you could pick culture or race or size ... you know?. That way you can pit people against each other. It's more fun that way. Going onto a British forum and criticising ALL of them. It's over reaching, and it has zero effect. Nice to see it so plainly done though. It makes you see just how pitiful it is as a pastime Thanks for that.

Emmelina · 24/08/2022 12:57

And what nationality are you, @Kashmirsilver , to have got it so right?

Where did you go on holiday? Fat camp?

😂, That really did make me laugh, thank you.

Another “HUGE” size 16 here, these jeans are a 33” waist from Donna Ida. I’m a 10/12/14 on top, but I don’t think anyone would look at me and think “cor blimey, look at that massive heifer”.

I’m 6ft, my BMI is 26, so yeah, slightly overweight, but I’m not sure I’d like the way I looked if I lost the surplus stone. I’m very bony as it is.

ZealAndArdour · 24/08/2022 14:02

Just so nobody thinks I’ve posted an unusually flattering photo, here’s another one where I look a bit fatter. Same 33” waist jeans, but a child’s age 14 Balmain Sweatshirt - which my DP took a photo of because we found it hilarious that I’d tried it on thinking it was a womens size 14. I bought it anyway, for a bargain price.

You are not a size 16 then are you @ZealAndArdour ? And your jeans are on your hips.

These jeans and most of my other trousers are a size 16, maybe a 14 if the shop does extreme vanity sizing. So yeah, I’m a 16 on my bottom half. Weight is distributed differently on everyone. A size 16 body might look very big on someone 5ft, but it’s quite different on someone who’s 6ft - in response to the person who said we’re all kidding ourselves that a 16 isn’t huge.

heshehahahehe · 24/08/2022 14:19

but there is research now that shows just being very slightly overweight can actually be a positive thing in terms of health.

How?

Well imagine if you're say 70, get unwell and lose 2 stone
If you're already at the normal weight you've no reserves

Kell91 · 24/08/2022 14:26

So in that case lets can call skinny people underweight and anorexic.

Johnnysgirl · 24/08/2022 14:32

But skinny people, by definition, are underweight? They're not all anorexic, of course, but most healthy people don't remain skinny without specifically trying to.

I don't care about offense. Was just an observation, whilst lounging around the pool. Lunch or dinner time dressed doesn't hide the fact Brits are overweight to a point of serious health complications.
None of the Spanish men or women were ghastly overweight, and neither were the Dutch or the French. In fact, the Spanish men put the Brits to shame.
All the Brits either had huge bellies or thick waists and huge legs men and women.
The 75% stat is under representative.

No you can be skinny and a healthy weight just as you can be a bit plump, maybe a size 14 to 16, and still be a healthy weight. Anorexia is a mental health condition that most skinny people do not suffer from.

Teand · 24/08/2022 14:41

Yes, because nobody who is overweight ever has a sexual relationship or gets married...

Teand · 24/08/2022 14:42

Not to mention that there are women out there who actively prefer "dad bods" to muscly guys, and guys who prefer "curvy, chubby" women to slim women. Nope, never happens.

Teand · 24/08/2022 14:44

I mean I'm a 14 and have no problems attracting men with my "big body".

Currently dating a guy who is about 22 stone
I don't care, his body is the least interesting thing to me and as someone once said "think bigger than a smaller pair of pants"

Do I notice he's big? Yeah of course but I've taught myself to be very neutral with bodies after seeing how much people bitch about others. So I don't love or hate his body, it's just the shell he's in and it might change with age and time or it might stay the same

PinkStarAtNight · 24/08/2022 14:47

I always thought of 'plus size' as being above the size that would be stocked in an average store, which would mean you needed to shop at a specialised store or special site to get your size. I imagined it being maybe size 20 upwards. Size 18 is often stocked in average stores so I don't think I would have considered it to be plus size.

But, maybe my definition of it is wrong. I suppose if you define plus size as simply over the average weight then size 18 is. Think it depends how individuals define the term.

Does it really matter though?

What are you talking about? Spain has an obesity problem, a worrying one. And 75% of what? You are making no sense. So you lay by the pool and everyone grossly overweight was British? And this led you to believe that everyone British was obese and everyone Spanish was slim... and it never occurred to you to do some research? Just jump on here and share your "facts"?

When I met my partner he was a bit overweight but not lots. He has since started going to the gym and got very muscly and slim in the waist and face. I actually preferred him sexually before he lost the weight sadly, but it's just his shell as you say, and I love the person who is in more so than anything. Plus of course I still find him very attractive either way :)

He has dated all types of women. I am a 14, his ex was a size 8 before me.

Way too rational, PinkStar! You can also have a plus size model, who who is larger than the super slim model, who might indeed be a size 18! I was once friends with a couple of girls who were built like models- very tall and slim. The both had an awful job finding finding clothes to fit!
