All the polls say she is ahead of sunak but I’m dreading her getting into power. Can anyone think of any positives as I’m struggling. I’m not that keen on sunak but given the choice I’d much rather him.

She'll be great for the country if everyone dislikes her and votes Labour next year!!
I just hope she doesn't do much damage in the meantime

howmanyseas · 20/08/2022 14:00

I think her only saving grace will be that people will be less likely to re-elect the Conservatives with Truss in charge.

honkeytonkwoman38 · 20/08/2022 14:02

All the Tories have been is a disaster. You've just woken up have you?

Cornettoninja · 20/08/2022 14:02

She’s basically a Boris puppet for Tory donors. I struggle to think of another politician so malleable.

hideous situation.

Ilovemycatalot · 20/08/2022 14:02

I’m just worried about the damage she will do even in a short space of time when this country is already on its knees.

She's vile and stupid. Like most of her colleagues. I don't think it matters which one of them is in power. They're all scum.

lljkk · 20/08/2022 14:03

She is going to reverse some of her positions (eg against handouts) as soon as scale of impending crisis becomes obvious. Political survival comes before "principles". So yeah, she's pathetic & inflation & national debt will soar with her tax cut plans handouts to rich people & corporations, but yeah, she won't quite the the idealogue she promises she will be right now to Tory party members.

BoJo will ride to rescue about 9m before next election is due (early 2024).

This is my hope too!

Exactly. The only real question is how much damage will she do before this happens.

Ilovemycatalot · 20/08/2022 14:04

I know what the tories are like and have never voted for them so don’t get your point.

OP posts:
Tayegete · 20/08/2022 14:07

I wouldn’t vote for either but Rishi is the least worst option. Agree with@howmanyseas that if she gets in at least Labour have a much stronger chance of winning the next election. The Tory swing to the right post Brexit and all of the anti-woke rhetoric is truly depressing. She’s a liability as well - so dangerous as Foreign Secretary with all her ridiculous statements.
I just hope that whoever wins axes Rees-Mogg. More likely if it’s Rishi I would have thought.

This 100%

Ilovemycatalot · 20/08/2022 14:10

Rees Mogg should of been axed a long time ago!

Hear hear!
That is all.

balalake · 20/08/2022 14:13

I don't think, I know. Though not quite as bad as if Mr Johnson had remained. It's a case of how much damage until there is a general election.

MintJulia · 20/08/2022 14:13

She's totally lacking in empathy and has no idea the challenges that other people face. She is fundamentally unsuited to be prime minister of any party. Any country. 🙁

Lonelycrab · 20/08/2022 14:14

She’s got no morals. Zero. Simply follows the easiest route to power as that’s all she’s interested in.

Shes dim and shows poor judgement, u-turning has already become predictable trait and she’s not even in power yet.

She’ll do whatever the ERG tell her to do, so in essence you’ll have JRM, Francois, Braverman et al, they are effectively going to be the ones running the country.

Already said some alarming things about us needing to be more like China. Hands up anyone who wants to have the working conditions of your average Chinese person. Oh, that’s no one.

Seems likely she may start a trade war with the EU shortly.

I fear she will cause immense damage. She may well be the leader that destroys the Tory Party, but she’ll probably destroy the country too, or what’s left of it, in the process.

Anothernamechangeplease · 20/08/2022 14:16

In fairness, I think this applies to virtually any other Tory I can think of...it kind of goes with the territory!!

Frazzled2207 · 20/08/2022 14:19

She is so unbelievably awful that she will be a gift to Labour at the next election.
I loathe Sunak almost but not quite as much. He’s almost as awful as the rest is them and clearly totally out of touch, but at least is able to make a punt at being capable, which Truss cannot.

MrsCat1 · 20/08/2022 14:22

Boris was pretty incompetent but I think this led to him letting better qualified people get on with the job. Truss is far, far worse. Poor judgement, lacks insight, lack of understanding of economics etc. I shudder to think what will happen. I suspect we will look back to the Boris days with affection.

Agree. I'm no fan of the Tories but at least Sunak understands economics. Truss doesn't understand anything and unfortunately doesn't realise it.

FunsizedandFabulous · 20/08/2022 14:25

I'm a union member and public sector worker so you can gather what I think of her.

She thinks she's Mrs Thatcher. She really isn't.

Flapjacker48 · 20/08/2022 14:28

I have a friend who has has close dealing with Truss as a Government minister - let's just say what she says about her isn't good - both on a professional "understanding" level and her attitude to people in general.

BJ has his faults, like ALL politicians.

he was still a FAR better option than Truss or Sunak. or starmer et al.

Still a lot of whingers will have got their wish. BoJo out at any cost. I hope they own that now.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 20/08/2022 14:30

I like Liz Truss. She works hard, is sensible and has always done a better job than people expected.
of course, compared to intellectual giants like Rayner and Abboot, she’s a bit lacking.
