All the polls say she is ahead of sunak but I’m dreading her getting into power. Can anyone think of any positives as I’m struggling. I’m not that keen on sunak but given the choice I’d much rather him.

BJ has his faults, like ALL politicians.

he was still a FAR better option than Truss or Sunak. or starmer et al.

Still a lot of whingers will have got their wish. BoJo out at any cost. I hope they own that now.

Has his faults? Constant lying, lawbreaking, corruption, channelling large government contracts to his mates, totally cocking up on PPE and care homes during the pandemic, cocking up on vaccines after the initial rollout, appointing a cabinet of bigots and incompetents? Getting us into a situation where our fuel costs have risen exponentially more than those in Europe?

To say nothing of appointing a known sexual molester to a position of power and then sending out his ministers to tell a succession of inconsistent lies for him.

Can you name any politician at cabinet or shadow cabinet level who has anything approaching that track record?

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/08/2022 14:55

The Tories have been a disaster for the UK. Spin Lizzy will be the same.

bloodyplanes · 20/08/2022 15:02

Lets be honest the tories will be out next election no matter who gets in! Their absolute ineptitude dealing with the cost of living crisis is going to destroy them.

Whitehorsegirl · 20/08/2022 15:02

Indeed.

The only positive is that she will be the final nail in the Tories' coffin.

But it is actually frightening to think about how much more damage will be done to the country before we get a general election.

I do hope that she makes a total mess of her first months and that there is widespread unrest and national strikes . In the end conservative MPs might push her out and we get an early election.

what a hopeless shower the Labour Party are, if their only hope of being elected is if the Tories make themselves viciously unelectable

I actually don't think that about the Labour Party. I think there are thing KS should be doing, but I don't think they're a 'hopeless shower' and compared to the Tories they're like the Mother Fucking Theresa Party.

They are a hopeless shower as the mood in the country is not that they are a great option. Just that the Tories are making themselves unelectable ( and in office during a major economic disaster which is always a hard sell). No-one thinks the country will be voting FOR labour, just that they will be voting against the Tories.

So yeah, that does make them a hopeless shower at being politicians. Bit like only winning a race because your opponent manacled themselves to the starting line.

I like Liz Truss. She works hard, is sensible and has always done a better job than people expected.
of course, compared to intellectual giants like Rayner and Abboot, she’s a bit lacking.

Compare her to Keir Starmer and there is no contest. Sadly many people don't seem that keen on competence, integrity and intelligence compared to loud 'characters'. There's nothing wrong with Angie Rayner. If she was the product of millionaire parents with an Oxbridge education bought for her, I'm sure you'd love her. She is having to go through her political learning curve in the full glare of the public and a hostile press.

For once, I'm praying that a politician will break their promises. What she's been promising to her current very right-wing electorate is terrifying.

Don't worry, there'll be U-turn after U-turn. She just says what she thinks her base wants to hear. She's fueled by ambition and nothing else, which is why she is so dangerous.

She forgets that once this talent contest is over she's got to actually 'govern' the country.

Sounds exactly like her predecessor.

ShesNotTheMessiah · 20/08/2022 15:08

With a team like this behind her, how can she fail to finish the job already started by her predecessors: totally trashing the country while making themselves richer.

Kwasi Kwarteng - Chancellor
Suella Braverman - Home Secretary
James Cleverly - Foreign Secretary
Kemi Badenoch - Education Secretary
Jacob Rees-Mogg - Levelling-up Secretary
Rishi Sunak - Health
John Redwood - Economic Secretary

I am dreading it too! I get the impression that she is not that bright, and in particular lacks depth of thinking, has poor political judgement ( that ‘ignore NIcola Sturgeon’ must have had the SNP hierarchy high fiving all over the place. They couldn’t have hoped for a comment that more feeds their narrative if they had scripted and paid for it themselves). And has no understanding, or concern for, people living in poverty.

It actually makes me think members of political parties should not pick leaders if they pick Trump, Corbyn and Trump, none of whom were the parliamentary party favorite, all of whom were ( or will be) disasters for the party.

She's been promoted way past her ability. As have all the people she's planning to put in her cabinet

FFS, JRM as levelling up secretary?! He's going to bring back Victorian workhouses isn't he?

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.

I just hope she puts Nadine as deputy PM

doilookremotelyinterested · 20/08/2022 15:11

She's better than Rishi, and they're both better than Boris. All 3 are crap. There are no decent politicians in any party. We're screwed.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/08/2022 15:15

I have visions of Nadine as Education sec - the horror.

I disagree. There are some good ones, and many who are better than Johnson/Sunak/Truss.

Someone like Yvette Cooper, for example. I think it's hard to argue that she wouldn't be infinitely better than any of the above.

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/08/2022 15:21

Penny Mordaunt will probably get a cabinet post. I think she's being tipped for Culture, Media and Sports Minister.🤦‍♀️

Elodie09 · 20/08/2022 15:25

I think Truss must be very astute if she is going to make JRM minister for levelling up. He really is in tune with hardworking UK people . He deffo has the "common touch. "

No I read that was Badenoch, which would be perfect. She's good at stoking culture wars

Being better than those 3 doesn't make them good, merely less inept!

I'll concede that they may be some decent ones but sadly they'll be relatively unknown backbenchers that won't get a chance to shine. They always stick with the well-known morons.
Yvette Cooper has actually grown on me. I'd like to see her as Labour leader... But the squirrel in my garden would be a better PM than either of the muppets we're going to get shortly so I wouldn't be so rude to Yvette by rating her as anything less than infinitely better!

runningpram · 20/08/2022 15:37

Not a fan but she's very far from dim - although don't quite get how she made it into Oxford PPE with ABC

runningpram · 20/08/2022 15:41

She also seems to be hard working and thinks outside the box which I think is a positive. I think she might be ok for women too. I'm sure she's said something in the past about the need to help with childcare costs - but might be mistaken..

Oh no! I really hope Kemi Badenoch isn't appointed education secretary. She's the one who though support staff were entirely a waste of money and "superfluous".

Which means she will be
Truss seems to have found the worst possible options and put them forward for the job 🙄
