I know, I am in the wrong because I parked wrong. For 2 minutes only, but nonetheless- wrong.

I was getting back into my car and this lady starts charging at me- I had both my Babies in the car. She starts screaming at me ' you can't park here, you can't park here. ' I put my hands up and say ' I know I'm sorry I'm sorry. ' She continues charging at my car. At this point I got scared and again said 'I am sorry and it won't happen again. '

I jumped into my car and locked the doors and she starts banging on my window, at which point - I again say ' look I understand and I won't park here again'.

Only then did she finally let off and I drove away.

Isn't that a bit of an extreme reaction ? I would never do that. Fair enough if I had got angry back, but I immediately apologised and backed down and she just kept going. She really scared me.

She shouldn’t have got so angry but how do you know you aren’t the millionth person to do this to that space? She might have a very good reason for you not to park there.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/08/2022 20:40

So why did you park there?

On double yellows? Sorry double yellows aren’t painted to mark a space for someone so I don’t really understand what her ‘good reason’ might be other than she wanted to illegally park herself.

girlfriend44 · 18/08/2022 20:41

She probably passed off with it happening all the time. Sorry dosent really cut it when it happens all the time. Hate it when.ppl say only 2 minutes as well
You shouldn't park there for any length of time.

FitFat · 18/08/2022 20:41

Crazy woman and massively OTT reaction!! Had you parked on Her petunias or something?!

ILikeHotWaterBottles · 18/08/2022 20:41

She was over the top, but you aren't special. You shouldn't have parked there. Just don't in future.

Ithinkitsenoughnow · 18/08/2022 20:42

Parking on double yellows is between you and the traffic warden - it’s no one else’s business!

Windbeneathmybingowings · 18/08/2022 20:42

Well I guess you wont do it again so it did work.

Seriously never doing that again. Freaked me out big time !

Scared the life out of me, I actually locked the doors too.

There are loads of good reasons for not parking on double yellow lines, or those zig zag lines you find next to pedestrian crossings. Some of which are because parking there makes it hard/ impossible for other road users to see what's coming/ if it's safe to turn etc.
It's not just "between you and the traffic warden" - it's sometimes a matter of public safety.

Could be a really tight street so no parking allowed? Could be known for accidents? Cars opposite might get damaged because no room to get through because cats opposite are parked on double yellows. Could be blocking access. Loads of reasons.

Cars not cats, cats can do as they please 🐈‍⬛

Yeah I get that. But none of those are reasons for a pedestrian (which I have assumed to be fair) to have the screaming abdabs about.

Unanananana · 18/08/2022 20:48

So why did you park there?

Wildlynx · 18/08/2022 20:48

Someone local to me ended up with double leg amputation after a horrible accident that wouldn't have happened if someone wasn't parked on double yellows. Perhaps she had similar experience/relative impacted? People are still always using the spot I know of to nip into the shop and it makes that area so dangerous for pedestrians.

QuestionableMouse · 18/08/2022 20:48

I once parked on double yellow lines because I was having a massive nosebleed and couldn't safely keep driving. It was on a straight bit of road and a passerby was horrible to me over it too.

phishy · 18/08/2022 20:49

Did your parking affect her at all or did she just see a woman transgressing and let loose all her aggression?

Whattodoaboutworknow · 18/08/2022 20:50

Oh I assumed she lived on the street not some random person walking through a town.

Unanananana · 18/08/2022 20:48

So why did you park there?

I had to get something from the boot of my car because my baby was crying. Then I was just comforting Baby for a couple of minutes. I know, not ideal.

Not far from where I live there's a pharmacy on one side of the road and a doctors' surgery opposite. There's an island in the middle of the road and dropped kerbs each side, with double yellow lines. There are a couple of Blue Badge spaces a little way along (rarely used).

I used to have to cross that road pushing someone in a wheelchair from time to time. You would not believe the number of people who parked on the double yellows, across the dropped kerb. When I challenged them I would generally get abuse because 'I've got a Blue Badge' and/or 'I was just in the chemist for a minute'. Which apparently made it fine for me and the wheelchair to get stuck in the middle of the road for minutes at a time.

We can all be vulnerable for different reasons, even if temporarily. Please don't park where you are asked not to - those lines are there because they need to be, even if the reason isn't immediately apparent to you.

Gentleness · 18/08/2022 20:57

Maybe if more people behaved like her, the roads would be safer. Ok, you were taking 2 minutes in an emergency, but loads of people don't care at all so the assumption has to be that you are one of them instead of someone who is taking 2 minutes in an emergency. I wish everybody stood up to yellow line parkers.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 18/08/2022 20:51

She pulled over for two minutes to comfort her crying baby. Would you rather she be in an accident because she was distracted because her child was distressed?

Tomikka · 18/08/2022 20:58

@flowerpowder has held their hands up to being in the wrong, but the woman can still be unreasonable

There can be valid reasons to have stopped on double yellow lines unless there are other restrictions:

Loading & unloading and disabled badge holder parking
