Woman completely bollocked me for parking on double yellows..

I know, I am in the wrong because I parked wrong. For 2 minutes only, but nonetheless- wrong.

I was getting back into my car and this lady starts charging at me- I had both my Babies in the car. She starts screaming at me ' you can't park here, you can't park here. ' I put my hands up and say ' I know I'm sorry I'm sorry. ' She continues charging at my car. At this point I got scared and again said 'I am sorry and it won't happen again. '

I jumped into my car and locked the doors and she starts banging on my window, at which point - I again say ' look I understand and I won't park here again'.

Only then did she finally let off and I drove away.

Isn't that a bit of an extreme reaction ? I would never do that. Fair enough if I had got angry back, but I immediately apologised and backed down and she just kept going. She really scared me.

Someone is always parked on double yellow outside my flat every day. To them it's just a bit of road to park on. For us it means none of can pull out of our car park as the turns are now too tight, so we're stuck.

Multiple times I've not been able to leave my home, or have had to wait while someone drops off a parcel or gets something out their boot or makes a
Phone call.

People like you boil my piss. Don’t break the law.

Exactly and what was the point of posting.
She did wrong, woman told her and that was the end.

Despairingof · 18/08/2022 21:01

Fair play to her, you won’t do it again.

@flowerpowder has held their hands up to being in the wrong, but the woman can still be unreasonable

There can be valid reasons to have stopped on double yellow lines unless there are other restrictions:

Loading & unloading and disabled badge holder parking

She was just super aggressive. I don't think that was necessary. You never know who you're dealing with. What if I had been some nut case and would have tried to hit her or something. You have to be careful who you shout at in public. So many psychos out there.

Not far from where I live there's a pharmacy on one side of the road and a doctors' surgery opposite. There's an island in the middle of the road and dropped kerbs each side, with double yellow lines. There are a couple of Blue Badge spaces a little way along (rarely used).

I used to have to cross that road pushing someone in a wheelchair from time to time. You would not believe the number of people who parked on the double yellows, across the dropped kerb. When I challenged them I would generally get abuse because 'I've got a Blue Badge' and/or 'I was just in the chemist for a minute'. Which apparently made it fine for me and the wheelchair to get stuck in the middle of the road for minutes at a time.

We can all be vulnerable for different reasons, even if temporarily. Please don't park where you are asked not to - those lines are there because they need to be, even if the reason isn't immediately apparent to you.

A blue badge holder can park for up to 3 hours on a double yellow provided there are no loading restrictions and their badge is prominently displayed.

So there are quite possibly threads they have created somewhere about you harassing them for no good reason.

I had to get something from the boot of my car because my baby was crying. Then I was just comforting Baby for a couple of minutes. I know, not ideal.

Find a safe place to park next time. Your baby would be absolutely fine for another few minutes while you find somewhere to pull over safely. Your baby doesn't trump road safety.

Better shouty lady than a traffic warden or the police.

SparklyDirtWonderful · 18/08/2022 21:07

I used to have a workshop on a narrow one way street with thin pavements. Double yellows both sides. If you parked there without parking as far into the pavement as possible then no cars could get passed you so it really was no parking.

I tried to leave my workshop one evening, my front door opened outwards so I was always careful opening it incase of pedestrians. I opened it slowly, only for the door to stop about a couple inches open because someone had parked right up against the building. I was trapped. I called the police who said they'd be there when they could. Waited an hour and a half and then the driver returned. Before that had, after waiting an hour, I opened the door with as much force as I could. Left a good dent all up the door. It was an "accident."
You can bet I gave that woman a bollocking when she finally got back.

Dont be a twat in future and no one will shout at you.

Parking blocking a dropped kerb at a crossing island is not allowed even with a blue badge.

I am a BB holder. I can park as you say on double yellows for 3 hours but I am still not allowed to park across a dropped kerb. Those people were vu, especially the ones, who qualify for a BB and should know better.

Cantthinkofausername01 · 18/08/2022 21:15

I wouldve told her fuck off, nutcase

nocoolnamesleft · 18/08/2022 21:20

At least she wasn't endangering anybody. Unlike pillocks unsafely parking on double yellow lines.

I don't think a blue badge entitles you to block dropped kerbs?

Mydpisgrumpierthanyours · 18/08/2022 21:26

A crying baby is bloody distracting while you are driving. Could you of found somewhere more convenient? Possibly.
But if it only was 2 mins I think she was way ott.

fufflecake · 18/08/2022 21:28

She was out of order yes but you don't know why she reacted like that. Might have had a relative killed in similar situation or something.

lunar1 · 18/08/2022 21:31

Sounds like she did an good job if you won't do it again!

Or another car going into you because you've parked dangerously, which is the worst case scenario!

Babies cry, OP. They can wait while you find somewhere safe to pull over. It's not an emergency.

You wouldn't (I hope) stop on the hard shoulder of a motorway and start faffing about with the boot because the baby is crying. They'll be fine while you get to somewhere safe to stop.

FlorettaB · 18/08/2022 21:32

Do you have twins?

Americano75 · 18/08/2022 21:33

Massive over reaction, wtf?

gogohmm · 18/08/2022 21:34

Where were they. Daily I'm blocked in by idiots who don't seem to think that driveways need to accessible. They park on the turnaround/roundabout put their blue badge then wonder why I'm angry that I've been waiting 15 mins to get out of my work parking - so if that was you that's why! (Actually it wasn't me because it was yesterday I last got blocked in)

Clymene · 18/08/2022 21:35

Sorry, she shouldn't have shouted at you because you might have been a psycho?

I watched an articulated lorry really struggle to turn the corner today because some tit had decided to park on the double yellows. Only be a moment! Massive traffic jam.

There would have been somewhere else for you to stop.

Dropped kerb issue aside, blue badge holders in Scotland can park on double yellow lines with no time restrictions, unless there are local time restrictions posted on that road (and they are subject to the same rules about loading restrictions).

The woman who confronted the OP sounds completely unhinged. That is not a normal reaction to anything apart from a life-and-death emergency.

limitededitionbarbie · 18/08/2022 21:35

Double yellows aren't they on Main roads not residential?

LimboLass · 18/08/2022 21:36

They are double yellows for a good reason. Most likely a road safety reason or traffic flow reason and possibly very valid for her to be pissed off.

Lets face it if she politely said please do not park there you would probably not even think twice before doing it again. I hope you learn from this and not be such a CF in future.

limitededitionbarbie · 18/08/2022 21:37

Or am I totally in a bubble that houses are not on double yellows?

I must be? London? How do you all cope!
