I know, I am in the wrong because I parked wrong. For 2 minutes only, but nonetheless- wrong.

I was getting back into my car and this lady starts charging at me- I had both my Babies in the car. She starts screaming at me ' you can't park here, you can't park here. ' I put my hands up and say ' I know I'm sorry I'm sorry. ' She continues charging at my car. At this point I got scared and again said 'I am sorry and it won't happen again. '

I jumped into my car and locked the doors and she starts banging on my window, at which point - I again say ' look I understand and I won't park here again'.

Only then did she finally let off and I drove away.

Isn't that a bit of an extreme reaction ? I would never do that. Fair enough if I had got angry back, but I immediately apologised and backed down and she just kept going. She really scared me.

She really scared me.

oh FFS scared because you’re (correctly) told off for parking illegally.

And then you post in here to complain????

Parking on double yellows is between you and the traffic warden - it’s no one else’s business!

4 accidents in my area in the last 6 months from the twats who park on double yellows on a right hand corner turn at the top of my road, those are the just the ones I've witnessed!

I personally wouldn't of said anything but double yellows are there for a reason.

fufflecake · 18/08/2022 21:44

How is that different to yellow?

Stopping and parking are different. You can stop without parking.

NCHammer2022 · 18/08/2022 22:53

Sounds like an extreme response but you can easily avoid it by just not doing it again, so I’m not sure why the angst.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 18/08/2022 22:54

We once had twattish neighbours opposite us, who got furious if anyone parked (completely legally) opposite their driveway, as they reckoned it made it difficult for them to get in or out - though in fact the road is easily wide enough, they were just shit at parking.

This went on until they made the mistake of having a go at a friend of ours who is a professional yacht-racer and has no fucks to give whatsoever. Never heard another peep out of them...

Moral of the story: don't let other people push you around when you aren't doing anything wrong.

Pixiedust1234 · 18/08/2022 22:55

Are you the same poster who had the GS charging at her, or is charging the new "it" word?

If you don't like confrontation then don't break the law. The baby was fine for a few more yards unless it was choking?

NCHammer2022 · 18/08/2022 22:55

Also, as a pedestrian who is frequently walking with my young child, people who do things like park on double yellows make it less safe for all of us.

outdooryone · 18/08/2022 22:55

When two numpties meet.

We live in an entitled society, in a country dominated by cars. How very dare anyone question either of those two things...

We also live in a country where the ability to communicate about something negative, in a clear and firm opinion has been replaced by aggression and hysteria.

I used to live at a tourist village. With double yellows and a private drive for a car. Multiple times a day I would watch visitors pull up on the lines, blocking the drive, or even better pull into the driveway or lawn and plants (!) In front of a 'private parking' sign. I guarantee every person challenged was only '2 minutes' or had an 'emergency' they needed to be there for. Parking on double yellows is dangerous, selfish and rude. Just don't.

Is professional yacht-racer a euphemism? Or are yachters known for being particularly aggressive or fighty?

As others have said, yellows are not about safety, in the main. You should not be parking unsafely close to a junction, whether there are lines there or not. Conversely, the presence of yellow lines does not, of itself, indicate that it is unsafe to stop, only that there are restrictions on parking.

They may have a Blue Badge and, like you, believe they can park where they want on double yellows, but they are obstructing a much-used dropped kerb.

Marvellousmadness · 18/08/2022 22:59

You say " so many psychos out there "

I say... " just dont break the law lady"

And dont conveniently dripped feed in the fact you had to get something out of your boot cuz your baby was crying. Because im sure if that was really so,you'd have mentioned it in your op....

The lady's reaction was ott
But you parked where you shouldnt have. Stop doing that and stop using excuses

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 18/08/2022 22:59

They have fairly high adrenaline levels, I'd say, but I meant more that, if you are able to command a racing yacht in the middle of a storm in the Pacific, you're probably not going to be intimidated by some random parking twat.

buddy79 · 18/08/2022 23:01

Double yellows are there for a reason. I walk home from school with my kids and every single day there is a camper van parked on double yellows making crossing the road essentially blind. Every day I have to turn the buggy backwards whilst holding a preschoolers hand and lean into the oncoming traffic to see past the fucking van. Tbh on a bad day I would shout and swear too. Sorry you were upset, she could have made her point more calmly and I totally get that a baby crying is horrible and feels really immediate. She was wrong to be so aggressive and I absolutely hate people shouting at others in public normally. But I’m afraid I think you are in the wrong on this one.

ThePumpkinPatch · 18/08/2022 23:04

For all she knew, you could've had a Blue Badge! Cheeky woman, how dare she?!

ThePumpkinPatch · 18/08/2022 23:06

Mistlewoeandwhine · 18/08/2022 20:51

People like you boil my piss. Don’t break the law.

Please remember that some people are legally entitled to park on double yellow lines! Blue badge holders for example. So the next time you feel your 'piss' heating up, please check for a blue badge first!

itsnotmeitsu · 18/08/2022 23:06

Yet again today somebody had parked their car halfway over our drive. We have a dropped curb with double yellow lines on the road. We have a longish drive which is shared with another property, so two properties not able to get their vehicles on or off the drive. Recently a strange car was parked on the mutual drive in such a way that we couldn't get off the drive to go shopping. Knocked on neighbour's door to see if it was a visitor of theirs. They were out. After waiting for more than half-an-hour a women turned up. When asked why she was parked on our drive she said there 'was nowhere to park on the road'. That's true, in that stretch of road if cars were parked on both sides of the road the traffic wouldn't be able to get through - that doesn't make our drive a car park.

Hadtochangeitforthis · 18/08/2022 23:08

I mean it is an OTT reaction though isn’t it when the Highway Code states that you may stop to load or unload (unless there are also loading restrictions as described below) or while passengers board or alight. So in the grand scheme of things she was able to briefly stop as you might for the above, if you were unloading could be a couple of minutes, so no I don’t think it was justified to come screaming at someone as if she was doing the above it would have been ok? As others have referenced a blue badge would entitle her to park there also unless restrictions were in place so can’t see that the dramatic theories of what the other person was raving about apply?

no stopping is red lines, yellow means no waiting but as mentioned above you can unload or passengers get in or out….basically fine to stop briefly

ThePumpkinPatch · 18/08/2022 23:12

@SwedeCarrotLime Who mentioned motorway hard shoulders?! You've made that up!

MummyJ36 · 18/08/2022 23:13

I love everyone saying it’s totally fine to start yelling someone because they parked in a bad spot. I’ve been both the parker and the annoyed pedestrian in my time. Do you know what I didn’t do in either circumstance? Totally lose my shit and starting screaming and shouting. Honestly it annoys me that people think they have free reign to act like twats under these circumstances.
I once drove the wrong way down a badly marked road in the middle of the night and a man came over my my car and wrenched the door open and started screaming abuse at me despite me apologising and trying to explain it was a mistake. Do you think that stopped me from every making a mistake again or just scared the crap out of me?
I also had someone park across my driveway for an extended period of time . Do you know what I didn’t do when they returned? Scream and shout obscenities at them. They were very apologetic and we both moved on with our lives.

SirenSays · 18/08/2022 23:13

Really unnecessary to start screaming.
People have so little patience these days, especially with things like this. My husband stopped to ask directions and when he came outside there was a woman writing a snotty note on his windscreen in lipstick 🤢

Matildahoney · 18/08/2022 23:14

For everyone saying you were in the wrong you're allowed to wait on double yellows last I knew so providing your engine was running you did nothing wrong!

redbigbananafeet · 18/08/2022 23:14

QuestionableMouse · 18/08/2022 20:48

I once parked on double yellow lines because I was having a massive nosebleed and couldn't safely keep driving. It was on a straight bit of road and a passerby was horrible to me over it too.

I assume you had your hazards on so they should have known something was wrong. In that case to it actions were justified.

ThePumpkinPatch · 18/08/2022 23:16

Jesus fucking Christ on a bike at Christmas! You can load/unload on double yellow lines provided it's not on a bend! OP was unloading something from her boot in an unexpected situation then loaded it into her car.
The posters on this thread need to get some smelling salts and calm the bloody hell down!
