I know, I am in the wrong because I parked wrong. For 2 minutes only, but nonetheless- wrong.

I was getting back into my car and this lady starts charging at me- I had both my Babies in the car. She starts screaming at me ' you can't park here, you can't park here. ' I put my hands up and say ' I know I'm sorry I'm sorry. ' She continues charging at my car. At this point I got scared and again said 'I am sorry and it won't happen again. '

I jumped into my car and locked the doors and she starts banging on my window, at which point - I again say ' look I understand and I won't park here again'.

Only then did she finally let off and I drove away.

Isn't that a bit of an extreme reaction ? I would never do that. Fair enough if I had got angry back, but I immediately apologised and backed down and she just kept going. She really scared me.

Everyone talking about safety etc...blue badge holders can legally park on double yellow lines for up to 3 hours as long as there are no other restrictions in place. I know OP never mentioned anything about being a blue badge holder, but kind of throws everyone's anger over 'safety' out of the window if i

Actually (and blue badge holder here) we are allowed to park for up to 3 hours as long as there are no other restrictions and it is safe to do so / we are not causing an obstruction. Having a blue badge is not a carte blanche to act like an idiot.

A bit patronising. I think @MagsterMum understands that Confused

Why has this thread been revived after a gap of several weeks?

Talkingtocamels · 29/09/2022 22:11

@Readaboutyourself
Oh come off it all the angels on here. Stopping on a double yellow has to happen occasionally.
Nothing OP did justifies that response

you say that…..but…..I live opposite a school. The entitlement is something else. There are zig zig yellow lines (you aren’t allowed to park on them). Many parents park on them. When they do I physically can’t get out of my drive. When challenged they say ‘I’m only dropping my kid off’- most of them get out and walk the kid in. Obviously their ‘only dropping my kid off’ trumps my ‘I’m only trying to get to work’ which obviously doesn’t matter at all 🤨. Mostly I just take a deep breath and count to 10 but catch me on a bad day and a parent will get the same wrath that was displayed to the OP. It’s fucking rude, inconsiderate, lazy and illegal.

Nillynally · 29/09/2022 22:14

I'd have told her to mind her own.

mam0918 · 29/09/2022 22:14

Strange a very similar thing happened to me on this date only I was the person who rolled down my window to say you cant park there (as they where completely blocking the road) and THEY got agressive with ME while I had my 2 children in the car saying they can park where the fuck they like.

I had to get out to block them from my passanger side where my kids where and they kept screaming at me 'dont get out of your car unless your going to fight me'.

They where reported as I recorded it and Police and Council are both going after the person now for the dangerous and illegal parking.

mam0918 · 29/09/2022 22:16

sorry I didnt realise a zombie thread I my incident was a month late (this month) on the 18th.

I had to get something from the boot of my car because my baby was crying. Then I was just comforting Baby for a couple of minutes. I know, not ideal.

The rules regarding double yellow lines also apply to people with babies, the bbay doesn't make an exemption!

Janedoe95 · 29/09/2022 22:48

I wasn’t going to comment but I can’t believe there’s so many people telling OP they’re wrong.

it sounds like that woman was a bully seeing a mum trying to comfort a baby and she thought it was appropriate to shout at you.

would she have really done the same if there was a group of lads in the car?

personally I’d have told her to piss off but I also understand when your baby is with you and upset you can’t really get in to an argument.

Some people are just busy bodies it doesn’t matter if she has a sob story and her whole family died because someone parked on a double yellow unless she’s a traffic officer it nothing to do with her.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 29/09/2022 22:51

I agree with Jane above. Can't believe people think it was OK to scream at someone who had stopped for a minute to calm a baby.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 29/09/2022 22:51

And bang on her window too. Nutter.

ivegotarms · 29/09/2022 22:54

I'm confused, the baby was crying so she stopped the car to get out and get something from the boot and then cuddle the baby? And you all seem to think this is fine? The double yellows are there for a reason, none of us were there so we don't know why, but there's a reason nonetheless. OP couldn't possibly just have turned down a side road, pulled into a car park or just waited a couple of minutes?!

Double yellows are there for SAFETY... they are put in places where accident or or are highly likely to occur by parking on them you are endangering other people.

No one is being a busybody by calling out dangerous illegal behavior.

Maybe she had a 'baby on board' sign, that gives you exemption doesn't it :)

I don’t need a lesson on the meaning of double yellows there’s plenty of things around for safety that people completely disregard everyday

Ive seen ambulances parked on double yellows is that woman right to shout at them too?

OP knows they shouldn’t of parked there but it doesn’t give anyone the right to abuse her.

and I completely agree with her point I’m sure one day that woman will shout at the wrong person I know most partners would knock someone sideways if they caught someone abusing their partner and newborn baby and rightfully so

gatehouseoffleet · 30/09/2022 09:51

Abusing someone isn't acceptable, but I don't believe there was nowhere else to stop nearby in an urban area.

I had a similar incident myself a couple of days ago, walking along a busy main road where a Sainsburys delivery van had parked on the pavement, blocking it to all but the slimmest of pedestrians, on double yellows and opposite the opening of a petrol station. There was a side road about 20m away where he could have parked safely. Both I and another pedestrian remonstrated with him but of course he didn't apologise, he was "only doing his job".

gatehouseoffleet · 30/09/2022 09:52

Come off it, you know that's completely different.

No it’s not a vehicle on double yellows still poses a safety risk if people want to be high and mighty an ambulance is just as likely to cause an accident on double yellows as a car

it just proves my point no one has the right to have ago at OP you never know the situation it could’ve been an undercover police car, someone in labour or having a heart attack.

Bloodybridget · 30/09/2022 10:06

I live on a two-way street that has parking on both sides, and a bend towards one end. It's too narrow for two vehicles to pass unless there is a gap between parked cars, so after a lot of road rage incidents and difficult reversing, the council put in a few short stretches of double yellow lines. But there are often cars parked on them, blue badge users are apparently allowed to anyway, which I think is silly, and minicab drivers seem to do it with impunity - we reckon the traffic wardens take backhanders, as people parking without valid residents' or visitors' permits get ticketed all the time. The woman who "screamed" and "charged" at OP (a woman or a rhino?) may have overreacted, but I can see why she might have been angry.

wow... condoning physical violance your just lost ANY ground your argument was attempting to stand on.

You also are CLEARLY privilaged enough to never have been in a serious car crash from someone thinking the law doesnt apply to them... Im not so lucky as you, so YES I fight for awareness and will call out people pointing out that these 'laws' aren't just mild inconveniances.

OP would be far more upset watching her baby grow up in occasional photos from prison after a vehicular manslaughter charge but likely far less upset than the victims family.

Double yellow lines do not mean that there is a safety issue.
Double yellow lines means that there is a parking restriction - usually for traffic flow

Stopping on double yellow lines without the other restrictions (such as no loading kerb lines) is not a safety issue

Specific circumstances apply to how safe or unsafe a situation is
