I know, I am in the wrong because I parked wrong. For 2 minutes only, but nonetheless- wrong.

I was getting back into my car and this lady starts charging at me- I had both my Babies in the car. She starts screaming at me ' you can't park here, you can't park here. ' I put my hands up and say ' I know I'm sorry I'm sorry. ' She continues charging at my car. At this point I got scared and again said 'I am sorry and it won't happen again. '

I jumped into my car and locked the doors and she starts banging on my window, at which point - I again say ' look I understand and I won't park here again'.

Only then did she finally let off and I drove away.

Isn't that a bit of an extreme reaction ? I would never do that. Fair enough if I had got angry back, but I immediately apologised and backed down and she just kept going. She really scared me.

Seriously never doing that again. Freaked me out big time !

Which is actually evidence that going batshit at cheeky fucker parkers works then?

Stripyhoglets1 · 18/08/2022 21:38

Peoplrnpsrk on double yellows on the entrance to our street so you can't see what traffic is coming - it's a nightmare! Maybe she's just had enough.

LoveMeForARaisin · 18/08/2022 21:38

People are batshit.

i had a woman yelling at me from her window for parking outside her house at school pickup time. No double yellows. No driveway blocking. Just sheer verbal abuse for having the audacity to park on her street.

LimboLass · 18/08/2022 21:38

I wouldve told her fuck off, nutcase

Woaaah. We have a badass on the forum.

Brefugee · 18/08/2022 21:39

I had to get something from the boot of my car because my baby was crying. Then I was just comforting Baby for a couple of minutes. I know, not ideal.

that actually makes it worse. You had no need to do anything other than drive to the nearest safe, legal place to stop.

Or am I totally in a bubble that houses are not on double yellows?

I must be? London? How do you all cope!

Double yellows here. Not London. Not even a city.

limitededitionbarbie · 18/08/2022 21:40

I've just google earthed my area! Loads of double yellows outsides houses!

I must be pre programmed to avoid these! I honestly don't notice them! Except to know they are blocked haha. Hence I avoid as I'm used to!

LoveMeForARaisin · 18/08/2022 21:41

What are the double red lines in London? We don’t have these here.

bubblesandwineandallthingsfine · 18/08/2022 21:41

I think a diagram is required

did you park somewhere dangerous and she was worried you’d cause an accident? Double yellows aren’t painted for fun

Quia · 18/08/2022 21:43

I think at the point she was banging on the windows I would have just driven off regardless. You'd said sorry more than once, what else could you reasonably do?

Cherrysherbet · 18/08/2022 21:43

You didn’t have to park there because your baby was crying. You could have driven a bit further and parked somewhere safe for everyone.

You did the wrong thing. If everyone just did as they pleased and ignored the rules, then where would we be?

I have double yellow with dropped kerb outside my house. For the most part it’s great as no one parks there. Except Amazon. And they never apologise for blocking me in/out.

LoveLarry · 18/08/2022 21:43

So was she "screaming"

Or did she just raise her voice?

Double red lines = no stopping at any time.

How is that different to yellow?

FlissyPaps · 18/08/2022 21:44

Very OTT and extreme reaction from her OP. Especially banging on the windows.

Obviously parking/stopping/waiting on double yellows is prohibited most of us drivers know that (you’re not the first to do it, won’t be the last).

I’ve parked on double yellows when I’ve quickly nipped into a shop to buy a drink, making sure I’ve not obstructed anything or being a potential hazard.

The woman just sounds a busy body - it wasn’t the end of the world you’d stopped there for a few minutes.

Double reds are not just in London. They mean RED ROUTE and are like double yellows but on steroids and idiots who just have to pick up one or two of 50 items of groceries still ignore them, but are therefore doubly idiotc.

I don't think a blue badge entitles you to block dropped kerbs?

Apologies, I missed the dropped curb part.

Outlyingtrout · 18/08/2022 21:45

There are double yellow line lines outside a shop in our village. The shop is in a very busy section of the main road with a pub, school, two lanes joining the main road and village hall all in very close proximity. When lazy people park on the double yellows to use the shop instead of just using the adjacent carpark, it creates a hazard for pedestrians and other road users because it affects (completely blocks, actually) visibility for anyone trying to join the main road from the lanes, and for cars turning into the lanes who can't easily see pedestrians. There have been several near misses over the years, some involving primary school children on foot. I wouldn't be surprised or have any sympathy for any of our local selfish parkers if they received an angry reaction like this. It's understandable in some circumstances, especially when repeated requests by residents for authorities to resolve the issue are met with inaction. Maybe there are similar circumstances in OP's case.

Do they smash your car up if you stop there l?

IncessantNameChanger · 18/08/2022 21:46

You can park on double yellow with a blue badge. Sometimes you need to. IE when non blue badge holders park in the disabled bays.

I used to pick my son up from school and two disabled bays would be taken by the same two CF parents who didnt have blue badges. I parked round the corner on a double yellow and multiple times the other parents got tickets. I didnt.

SavingsThreads · 18/08/2022 21:46

@fufflecake because yellows allow for loading/unloading and disabled parking. Red is often on the big traffic routes in London and doesn't stop some moron from parking there 'just for a minute' in rush out and creating a massive backlog of busses.

Meraas · 18/08/2022 21:48

fufflecake · 18/08/2022 21:44

How is that different to yellow?

You can pull over on double yellow lines to drop off or pick somebody up, as long as there are no stopping restrictions.

And you can park on DYs if you have a blue badge.
