At the supermarket earlier, and parked in a parent and child space with DH and 10 month old DS.

As I was getting DS out of the car a car pulled into the parent and child space next to us, and a woman got out and started walking towards the supermarket without any kids.

I called after her and said "You know you've parked in a P&C space, yeah?" and she started huffing and puffing that she had her son with her, who was in the car. I pointed out that the spaces are for parents with children who need the extra room to get them out of the car, and then she said that her son was disabled and that she had a disabled badge. I then said that the disabled spaces were in another area of the car park, at which point she started getting her son out of the car and telling him that he had to come into the shop "because that mental lady was kicking off".

I'm just so sick of entitled fuckers using these spaces without any need to when I've often struggled trying to get DS out of his car seat without sufficient space.

DH was mortified and said I should have just left it.

YABU

They are entitled to use them

They're not a protected space, they're a courtesy

Skinnermarink · 18/08/2022 18:24

Sorry, you had a go at a mum with a disabled child for parking in a convenient spot?

Did you have enough room to sort DS? If yes then why pick a fight over it.

Peashoots · 18/08/2022 18:25

She had a kid with her. A disabled kid! You are an absolute cheeky fucker of the highest order. I’d have told you to fuck off.

Blue badge holders can use p&c bays

RosiePosie27 · 18/08/2022 18:26

I get it if there was obviously no child in the car - yes, it is annoying and unfair on parents with children(YANBU), but when her child is in the car, I wouldn’t have said anything personally but I do understand your frustrations.

saltwaterandsuncream · 18/08/2022 18:27

Are you joking? If you are then yeah, this isn't funny. If you're not then....... you are a Bad Person and your husband was absolutely right to be mortified. I'm mortified for him.

TigerRag · 18/08/2022 18:27

You say she had no kids and then mentioned that she said she had a disabled son? Obviously I'm aware that her son could have been an adult.

Flittingaboutagain · 18/08/2022 18:28

Her disabled kid is totally irrelevant. He wasn't getting out of the car. The disabled spaces are closer to the entrance so more appropriate for someone leaving their disabled kid in the car anyway.

I agree with you OP. Parent and child spaces are a useful facility designed for people who need to open doors wide to get kids IN and OUT.

Toucan123 · 18/08/2022 18:29

Are you actually serious? You had a go at someone with a disabled child for using a parent and child space?! If so then you should be ashamed of yourself. You probably ruined their day and made them feel really upset. Well done you.

Bubblebubblebah · 18/08/2022 18:30

Don't feed it people

Yeah, this

Your DH was right. You were wrong.

Indeed.

Antarcticant · 18/08/2022 18:32

She had her child with her. There's no rule that the child has to go into the shop with the parent. The sign just says they are for parents and young children.

I say this impartially, as a child free non-driver Grin

TheCutter · 18/08/2022 18:34

This must be fake or a reverse...

Briony22 · 18/08/2022 18:43

To be clear, I didn't know she had a child with her. It just looked like she had left her car parked in the space to nip in to the shops!

But that doesn't matter

They're not protected spaces

Then you were in the wrong jumping to conclusions and should have apologised.

Raquelos · 18/08/2022 18:45

Oh FFS those spaces are a marketing strategy the shop uses to attract a particular section of the customer base with a higher spending profile. They might be convenient by they aren't a God-given right. Don't be surprised when other customers not afforded the same courtesy ignore them.

Meraas · 18/08/2022 18:48

YABU. Disabled people are entitled to park in P&C spaces.

I can’t believe you told her to move to the disabled, bays, what the actual fuck?!

What you did was extremely ignorant and you need to have a word with yourself.

Shameful.

So you should be ashamed of mouthing off without getting your facts right.

I can’t believe you’re trying to justify yourself.

YABU
You should have kept your nose out

StoneofDestiny · 18/08/2022 18:51

OMG!
Just what the world needs - another parking monitor.

(Gawd knows how we managed before these P&C spaces were available - and how anybody manages when there are none left. Oh ......that's right, they manage fine.
