Are you actually going out in this heat?

I feel so bad for keeping my kids in (we have air con) but I just can not bare this heat and my kids are so fair I don’t like them being out in the sun for too long. Aibu for staying in this week? It’s supposed to be back to a normal temp next week and we are going away so they will have plenty to do.

I’m going out but I don’t have small children. There’s no way I’d attempt to take them out if I did. Staying home won’t kill then.

Shoxfordian · 11/08/2022 16:28

I’m staying home in front of the fan

SelfMadeWoman · 11/08/2022 16:29

I have to go out, to work! Air con in the car thankfully!

Greensleeves · 11/08/2022 16:29

I'm certainly not going out in this heat, I'd be burned to a crisp within minutes. I'm working outside in my garden because the breeze is marginally more tolerable than stagnating in the house, but I'm under a massive parasol, and regularly supplied with cold Cokes and jubblies to keep the heat at bay Grin

I think if you do go out, especially with children, then you have to be militantly organised. Sun hats, strong sun block, frozen bottles of water, money for ice lollies, plans to spend some periods in the shade. I think people who just take their kids to the beach all day in this heat are a bit bonkers.

Lottapianos · 11/08/2022 16:29

Been going to the gym quite early in the morning but that's it. Think we'll stay home on Saturday, we're in London and due to have 35 degrees! Living for next week when it's cooler 😣

Hbh17 · 11/08/2022 16:31

Of course I go out just as usual. And can we please ban the phrase "in this heat"? It just makes me cringe!

IggyAce · 11/08/2022 16:31

I took my dcs & dn out to the beach this morning, there was a lovely breeze and we all enjoyed a paddle. We were back home by 1pm.
South facing garden far too hot, so we spent the afternoon watching movies, all curtains and blinds closed.

OhImVisiblyOver25 · 11/08/2022 16:32

I’ve been to work, I literally had sweat pouring into my eyes it was horrible!

Yeah, we go out. We've had a few days at Legoland. We've also been cycling this week. Yesterday, we went to a Chinese buffet for dinner (also by bike). We've spent most of the day in the garden today. The tent has been put up and has been turned into a den...apparently. DS and DH are currently playing football. Tomorrow, there's a playdate happening at ours and the kids will most likely spend the day in the garden as well...pool, trampoline, climbing frame...whatever. we've got large oaks providing shade for most of the play areas in our garden.
Next week, I'll probably take DS to our local theme park because the temperatures are supposed to drop to 24 degrees and it's meant to drizzle...

minipie · 11/08/2022 16:33

You have air con? Stay in and invite friends over! You’ll be the most popular family around 😁

lookthisway · 11/08/2022 16:33

Only before 10am and after 3pm

addler · 11/08/2022 16:35

We went to the playground at 9am, stayed until 10 and then camped out at a cafe with ac and had a buggy nap. Our house is way too hot to stay in all day.

neverbeenskiing · 11/08/2022 16:36

We've been going out early (to the park or for walks) before it gets hot or early evening.

OnlyEverAutumn · 11/08/2022 16:36

@Hbh17 why does it make you cringe talking about the heat?

MintJulia · 11/08/2022 16:38

Out into the garden, yes. Weeding in the shade or watering pots and the greenhouse.

Out with DS, later this evening when the strength of the sun has gone and we'll go blackberry picking.

And to the barbers tomorrow but only because his hair is in his eyes. We don't go far in this weather, there's ice cream in the freezer and fresh lemonade in the fridge. We don't need air con.

Badtasteflump · 11/08/2022 16:38

Yes we still go out. I'm hugely chuffed that this year I'm not having to spend £££ to go abroad to get this kind of weather - and obviously when you go on holiday you still go out, so why wouldn't I now? 🙂

pinkfondu · 11/08/2022 16:38

Take them to the cinema it's freezing Grin

Ineedwinenow · 11/08/2022 16:39

I love the heat so I’ve spent a hour or two in our garden with a cold beverage! It can’t be nice when you have kids so I suppose the usual sensible ideas of a hat, sun cream and paddling pool if you have space otherwise a fan and Netflix will be fine 😆

PastaCheese · 11/08/2022 16:39

Of course

It's a warm day

Not like we are walking about near Chernobyl

Sweatinglikeabitch · 11/08/2022 16:41

We've been to a splash park this morning. Done at 1.30 for nap time. 4pm seems to be the hottest time of day. We'll be in now I think, maybe head to the park about 6/7ish.

sleepymum50 · 11/08/2022 16:43

I’m currently clearing out a shed that got mouse infested last winter. It’s in full sun and a furnace.

But my brother has offered a tip run, (estate car)so if I don’t do it today, I’ll be stuck.

Had to come indoors to cool down.

Crunchymum · 11/08/2022 16:43

We're in London and no we won't be going out and about as we usually would.

We have a south facing and unshaded terrace so we won't be using that either.

We have swimming lessons (early) all this week for DC1 so we've been going to the pool and then hitting a park on the way home. Lunch / play / relax etc for a few hours and then back out of a walk or another park for an hour after dinner.

We will wander down to the splash park after dinner this evening for a play around. Or maybe a walk along the canal. Will see what we fancy later.

Its working well, although we've not yet got to peak temperature. We're predicted 37c on Saturday!!!

Isis1981uk · 11/08/2022 16:45

Yes, it's lovely out there! We have 8 months a year to be cold & damp, I try to embrace the wonderful heat! People pay £1000s to go on holiday to get weather like this!

Penguintears · 11/08/2022 16:45

Do you not go out when you go on holiday to hot countries?

UseOfWeapons · 11/08/2022 16:45

Worked yesterday, roasted slowly. Off today, and have been out several times, a walk, shopping, library, visit parents. No car, no fan, no air con. Hate it this hot, so I get up early, and do no housework or ironing when it’s hot!
