Are you actually going out in this heat?

I feel so bad for keeping my kids in (we have air con) but I just can not bare this heat and my kids are so fair I don’t like them being out in the sun for too long. Aibu for staying in this week? It’s supposed to be back to a normal temp next week and we are going away so they will have plenty to do.

We went to the cinema today, lovely and cool!

FunnyBeaux · 11/08/2022 17:49

It's beach weather.

Benjispruce4 · 11/08/2022 17:49

DD is working in central London and playing netball after work before getting in tubes and train home.

etulosba · 11/08/2022 17:50

I think all the people replying about how they’re loving it probably aren’t in inner city locations

I hadn’t considered that.

I’m loving it. I’m lucky to be not too affected by high temperatures. I’ve been for a walk in Death Valley at 50 degrees and returned alive and unstressed.

It’s 32 degrees here. Probably my ideal temperature. Not too cool, not too hot.

Vicliz24 · 11/08/2022 17:50

Of course. My work wouldn't appreciate me phoning in for a summer day . It's summer it's supposed to be lovely and this year it actually is . Winter is long grim and miserable.

OhImVisiblyOver25 · 11/08/2022 17:51

I’m a very hot and sweaty person to be fair. Even in the winter I’m sweating.

No. No. No. I hate this heat.

I only drove for just over 10 minutes this morning and my right arm was bright red from resting on the car door frame. Horrible.

ThreeRingCircus · 11/08/2022 17:55

With the DC I've been taking them out early and make sure we're home by lunchtime. Lots of suncream, water and wearing hats so at least we've been out.

Then if it's very hot in the afternoon we've stayed indoors until about 4 or 5pm as our garden gets shade at that time so we've had dinner outside or sat and played in the shade.

danadas · 11/08/2022 17:56

Not a chance. I'm WFH this week anyway but I am sweating just sitting at my desk. Luckily we are by the coast so will go paddling at sunset to cool down and then wait for the weather to turn before heading out daytime

Mol1628 · 11/08/2022 17:57

The sun and heat gives me migraines so I’m avoiding it best I can. Been letting the kids out in the garden early morning but it gets too hot very quickly.

We also went swimming early morning yesterday which was nice. But mostly we are staying home and chilling.

I don’t go on holiday to hot countries either.

RainbowsMoonbeams · 11/08/2022 18:01

Yes, we went out to the beach and had a picnic. Got there early, home by midday. Was lovely, but couldn’t do a whole day.

garlictwist · 11/08/2022 18:01

I am loving this weather. Last week it was 15 degrees and raining every day. I had my coat back on. This is much better.

Ohdofuckofdear · 11/08/2022 18:05

No I am not,I have the flaming flu so feel like I'm melting, blew my nose this morning and managed to black out and end up on the floor so now I've been ordered not to move from the sofa by my DH who has pointed the fans at me and keeps bringing me cold drinks and Ice lollies bless him.

Thankfully the DC that still live at home are being lovely and were not keen on going out till the temperature outside drops a bit.

TinaTeaspoons · 11/08/2022 18:07

Kids were at camp today. Now camped out in the living room with ice lollies and netflix.
Wouldn't have taken them out today. It's 33C here and stifling. Amazed how anyone can enjoy it.

willstarttomorrow · 11/08/2022 18:08

@gogohmm - exactly.

RetrainRetrain · 11/08/2022 18:08

Yes, we're going out as normal but stay out of the sun in the middle of the day. Today was park in the morning, then den-building in the woods, and we're going to the beach now. I'm very fair skinned so cover up but don't find this heat extreme - it's just like being on holiday. We don't live in an inner city area though and I can totally see how that would make a difference.

wonderstuff · 11/08/2022 18:09

DC and I have left too hot Hampshire and booked a couple of nights in west Wales, it’s absolutely gorgeous here. Very lucky to be able to I know, we’ve had the best time.

Hope you’re feeling better soon, flu is just awful at the best of times. Flowers

PumpkinPie2016 · 11/08/2022 18:11

Yes, we have been out and about.

This morning, took DS to a trampoline park which has aircon. Also went to get his pumps for school.

Was out and about in various places yesterday.

The car has air con and we dress for the weather.

I'm not a huge fan of the sun so wouldn't want to go sunbathing but I am doing normal things.

AlannaOfTrebond · 11/08/2022 18:17

I've made some adjustments, such as going to the gym in the morning (no aircon) and avoiding outside work in the middle of the day. Other than that I'm living life as normal and loving actually being warm for a change - and yes I live in a city centre and also have a ginger DH who hasn't fried or melted yet either.

howdidigethere · 11/08/2022 18:20

Most big stores & shopping malls have air con so the only problem is driving there in a hot car if your vehicle is an old banger which feels like a mobile oven.

Techno56 · 11/08/2022 18:21

StoneofDestiny · 11/08/2022 16:59

Feeling envious of those with air con - do you have mobile units with a tube out the window, or a full installation? Any recommendations?

I have a chronic condition that gets a lot worse in warm/hot weather, anything above 25 and I am really really struggling. We had air con fitted in our old house after the hot period in 2006 as I was so ill. We tried a unit with the tube out the window and it's sort of ok but you have to sit in front of it with the door shut (I suppose they may be better all these years later). Then got a permanent unit in the bedroom and the lounge installed.

When we moved we had it fitted again by the same company - look for a local installer for easy service and repairs if needed. Daikin or mitsubishi units. It's not cheap - we had equity in our move so it was mentally written off as "moving costs". It's in the living room, one middle floor bedroom and the upper floor bedroom, mostly due to how the pipes need to be routed. So sometimes someone ends up sleeping in another room to their usual bedroom to take advantage but not that often and it's so worth it on the extremely hot nights.

I reckon it costs around 30p an hour to run, so not something you would want to leave on for days and nights at a time. We don't turn it on til the temp reaches high twenties / thirty plus and only in the afternoon and then at bedtime upstairs.

Soproudoflionesses · 11/08/2022 18:23

We only popped to the supermarket earlier.
Nothing wrong with staying at home op.

Pickingmyselfup · 11/08/2022 18:23

Depends if there is anywhere we

AuntieMarys · 11/08/2022 18:26

I've been to the gym for an early spin class every morning, and lunch out. Other than that nothing...I've read 4 books this week
