Are you actually going out in this heat?

I feel so bad for keeping my kids in (we have air con) but I just can not bare this heat and my kids are so fair I don’t like them being out in the sun for too long. Aibu for staying in this week? It’s supposed to be back to a normal temp next week and we are going away so they will have plenty to do.

Been going out most days with my 4 year old and don't think it's will change anytime soon. We live in the Forest of Dean so been going out a lot in the woods and playing in the stream. When we're at home she been playing in pool or doing some form of crafts under the parasol. I think spending time outside is ok as long as you have shade. Not sure if you have a garden maybe think about getting a big parasol for the kids to play under?

ohblowmedown · 11/08/2022 16:47

I know so many people going to huge outdoor concerts this weekend with no shade. It's going to be chaos I bet - people won't want to leave their spot to get drinks, there'll be folk collapsing right left and centre.

InTheCup · 11/08/2022 16:48

Nope, not been out for days (no young children and wfh).

I don't go to hot countries because I hate the heat.

rainbowandglitter · 11/08/2022 16:48

Of course I'm going out. It's lovely. Like someone upthread said, people pay a lot of money for this weather abroad.

BeanyBops · 11/08/2022 16:49

Well yeah because it's been going on for so many months now that I've had to learn to live with it or become a hermit. So the dog gets walked first thing before it's too hot. I plan to go to places with lots of shade with my toddler and leave early in the morning. We wear heavy duty spf and hats and drink loads of water. It's surprisingly not terrible if you sit stillish in the shade. If it's so hot that we then have to be back home for 1pm then at least we've had a morning out.

Of course I go out just as usual. And can we please ban the phrase "in this heat"? It just makes me cringe!

LOL, no, we aren't going to ban a perfectly appropriate phrase because you don't like it.

clickychicky · 11/08/2022 16:52

Yeah I have to to work.

OnaBegonia · 11/08/2022 16:52

I work outdoors, as do many people, therefore have no choice, have to crack on.

pd339 · 11/08/2022 16:53

Honestly, this country is full of drama-lamas. It's not that hot! Certainly not hot enough to refuse to leave the house!

Gufo · 11/08/2022 16:53

No but only because I WFH - will go for a walk this evening or a run later on.

itsgettingweird · 11/08/2022 16:53

If your kids are happy then fine.

But most children need some time to run off energy.

Before 10 and after 6pm are best.

Or if you have a garden a paddling pool in the shade.

I certainly don't think it's necessary to run to the beach or splash park just because the suns out.

For once we've actually had a summer this year!

Vampirethriller · 11/08/2022 16:56

I have to go to work and there's no air conditioning!

StoneofDestiny · 11/08/2022 16:57

Totally south facing garden and it's too hot even under the parasol. Summer house is like being in TENKO. Heat makes me tired - so keep dropping off while trying to do some work. House has never been untidy as it is now - can't face normal household chores while basking in this heat.
Of course, I've got commitments I have to go out for, but not doing so by choice.

StoneofDestiny · 11/08/2022 16:59

Feeling envious of those with air con - do you have mobile units with a tube out the window, or a full installation? Any recommendations?

Nearly every phrase makes someone cringe on here. Standard Mumsnet

I’m going out but I don’t have small children. There’s no way I’d attempt to take them out if I did. Staying home won’t kill then.

Same here. I've been clearing out a lock up garage this afternoon.

Christmasiscominghohoho · 11/08/2022 17:01

Iv been out. The weather is lovely.

Beach yesterday, woodland walk and pub lunch today and movie night tonight.

do what feels right for you.

ilovesooty · 11/08/2022 17:02

And I've been out to work this morning.

MarshaMelrose · 11/08/2022 17:04

I'm going away for the weekend on a coach holiday. And as it's cheap, the hotel probably won't have air con! I don't want to go. 😢 BUT we're going because I've paid for it!! If however the coach air con is out, I'm turning right round and getting off!

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 11/08/2022 17:05

I've been out in the garden a couple of times but it wasn't comfortable it's only 28 here in Edinburgh

Suetwo · 11/08/2022 17:07

No. I love the sun, but man I hate the heat. It drives me insane. I'm in Essex, and for the last month it has felt like living in Corfu or the Costa del Sol. I have never experienced so much hot sunshine for so long.

Pinkandgreentrousers · 11/08/2022 17:12

I'm going to the beach at 8pm for a swim and watch the sunset and full moon. Too hot and busy before that.

OhImVisiblyOver25 · 11/08/2022 17:16

Penguintears · 11/08/2022 16:45

I don’t go on holiday to hot countries

OP posts:
Fairislefandango · 11/08/2022 17:21

Yes. We're on holiday on the south coast of England. We're not going to spend our one week away stuck indoors! We've been mostly on the beach, but have done some touristy bits too. It's fine. None of us has 'burned to a crisp' or melted into a pool of sweat! And we are all very fair-skinned apart from dh. Plenty of factor 50 and hats - no problem.

Softplayhooray · 11/08/2022 17:23

I don’t go on holiday to hot countries

It's way easier on hols as the holiday resorts we go to are set up for the hot weather and lots of activities/ways to enjoy it/relax in it. Plus usually we go by a beach, or in a more nature based place and the heat feels nicer - in cities all that concrete holds the heat and (alongside loads of traffic and fumes) makes the same temp feel way more unbearable.
