To be mad at DH over his stupid fucking car

Shutuppppp · 08/08/2022 06:50

Years ago DH bought a ridiculously expensive (and loud) car with a huge roaring engine. The sound this stupid thing makes when he starts it up is embarrassing.

I am absolutely ready to take a baseball bat to it. We have a young child (13 months) and I do 99% of the overnights as DH works a lot.

He sleeps better than he used to as a newborn obviously but he's been ill the past couple of weeks and has been up and down, often waking at about 3 and then going back to sleep, or trying at least.

But then 6:30am comes and this stupid fucking beast on our driveway starts up and wakes him up and I've just had enough of it. I'm so mad about this ridiculous fucking car.

DH doesn't know what I expect him to do and I don't really know either, all I know is it pisses me off and I'm mad at him about it. Get the fucking bus or something, I don't care just don't wake DC (and me after being up and down all night) with your stupid fucking toy.

Honestly I often wish I'd wake up in the morning to someone having stolen it in the night.

Park it further away , sell it or buy a normal second car

Overthebow · 08/08/2022 06:53

That sounds really annoying if it’s waking you and baby up. Can he park it further down the street instead of on your drive?

Ihearticecream · 08/08/2022 06:54

If at 6.30am he starts it everyday he’s waking the entire street up which is incredibly selfish! Especially as there are a lot of quiet cars out there now.
Tell him to sell it and get a reasonable car!

sjxoxo · 08/08/2022 06:55

Bet your neighbours love it too!! Park it further away. Can you persuade him to sell it and buy a more practical car?? X

RedHelenB · 08/08/2022 06:56

Surely you're used to the house by now. I think yabu, presumably he's off earning the money at 6 30 rather than enjoying leisure tine.

SpindleTurning · 08/08/2022 06:57

Fuck me, doesn't that annoy the neighbours as well?

I agree that your options are to sell it, or he uses a 2nd car, or he parks it where it won't wake anyone. Or you get a friend to steal it and hide it in their garage until the DC grows up.

Hiddenvoice · 08/08/2022 06:57

My husband also has an extremely loud car with an even louder exhaust. He doesn’t reverse into the driveway as the sound can bounce off the walls and echo. The car isn’t actually that loud when it gets going, it just takes time to heat up. I’d suggest the parks on the street as to not wake child up. If he’s not understanding the issue then you turn the car on while the stays in with the child so he can see the problem.

What do you mean 'used to the house by now'?

He can go and earn money in a normal car.

I also work btw.

MercuryOnTheRise · 08/08/2022 06:59

What type of car is it? Seriously, not trying to miss the point of the question but my DH has a ridiculous car and honestly, the engine can roar but it depends how you drive it. It doesn't have to.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 08/08/2022 06:59

It's really antisocial behaviour if there are neighbours. Why does he think he's entitled to wake everyone up at 6.30? Ask him that.

Isnt he a bit too old to be a boy racer? Tell him to sell it. Tell him it's embrassing. Tell him no one is impressed by it apart from the 17 year olds doing donuts in retail centre car parks. Tell him people laugh and say 'Big car, small cock' when they see it.

Odile13 · 08/08/2022 07:03

That sounds really annoying. I also feel sorry for everybody else on your street that has been disturbed by his car. He sounds selfish and unreasonable. Obviously he should get a new car or park this noisy one somewhere else away from people.

rainbowstardrops · 08/08/2022 07:03

That would drive me crazy too and I don't imagine the neighbours are too impressed either!
Tell him he's a big boy now and needs to grow up.

And what other selfish behaviour is Billy Big Bollocks entitled to purely because he’s “off earning money.” Managing to hold down a job, just like the op does, isn’t a Carte Blanche to act like an arsehole you know.

OP states it wakes the baby up, wether she is used to the noise is irrelevant!

So what if he's off earning money, doesn't mean he gets the right to piss other people off.

SpindleTurning · 08/08/2022 07:06

Mind you, round here it's the dog walkers waking everyone up at 6.30am each day. The holler and screech to each other like they're best friends reuniting after years, not vague neighbourhood acquaintances who saw each other just 24 hours previously.

The 6.30am twat brigade really get on my wick.

SpindleTurning · 08/08/2022 07:08

And with another heatwave coming, people will want to sleep with their windows open ...

…and wake someone else’s kid up…

MintJulia · 08/08/2022 07:12

Tell him to buy a normal car, save heap of money, stop damaging the environment, stop upsetting the neighbours and stop depriving you of sleep.

Time for him to grow up and stop being a selfish child.

Shutuppppp · 08/08/2022 07:12

We don't actually have neighbours close to the house thankfully so that's one positive. Otherwise yes I'd be saying that as well!

Our driveway is right below DCs room though which makes it 100x worse.

He doesn't want to park it anywhere else because he thinks it's more likely to get broken into and wants to 'keep an eye on it'.

What type of car is it?

It's an sports car.

Imagine how your neighbours have felt all this time. It shouldn't just be an issue now because it is inconveniencing you, it should have been a non starter idea from the start because of how much it will inconvenience your neighbours

Barbequebeans64 · 08/08/2022 07:13

My neighbour has a realllllly loud car and it wakes me up all the time. He's a young kid and goes out and gets home at stupid hours. It's incredibly selfish.

prepared101 · 08/08/2022 07:16

Is it a Subaru? My husband has a Subaru (with a turbo so it also has to 'cool down' at the end of the day.

He had to buy a second run around for work because I was so sick of the noise and the fact our neighbours must have hated us. How we never got a letter I have no idea.

Anyway, YANBU OP.

tanstaafl · 08/08/2022 07:18

Is he revving the engine after he’s started it?
is he one of those people (men) that thinks it’s good for the engine to do that from cold?

Shutuppppp · 08/08/2022 07:19

No it's not a Subaru, it's a sports car with some massive V something or other engine, I don't have any idea about cars and I hate this thing as if it were my archnemesis so I've had no desire to learn about it either ha.

We do have another normal car, but it's mine so he can't go to work in that. I'd love him to just buy a cheap runaround to go to work in if he can't get public transport.

My old kind-of neighbour had a car like this. 'Kind-of' in that he actually lived down the road but parked it in the spaces outside our house instead of his own driveway, presumably to not wake his own family and close neighbours. He started it up about 6am. It was a right crap, noisy piece of rubbish. I dreamt of whacking it with a brick and wondered if one day I might sleep walk and actually do it 😂 We've moved now. Phew!
