To think Clubcard prices causes a negative view of Tesco?

I went in to do a shop, realised I left my clubcard at home but thought I'd be able to find it on my grocery app, or mobile banking.

No, couldn't access it anywhere so instead of doing my top up shop there, probably around £60 I walked out and went to Aldi.

It left me with a negative view of Tesco and certainly less likely to just pop in after a day out at the beach etc when I don't bring my handbag, loads of regular items were 25-30% more expensive without my Clubcard.

Those at Tescos must think it encourages loyalty, it doesn't for me, anyone else?

Put the app on your phone and your card is on there

Lymregent · 27/07/2022 18:15

Even more annoying is when you've got a trolly full of shopping and realise at the till you haven't got your card. End up paying way more than you should because you haven't got time to start again at another shop.

ANewNameANewDay · 27/07/2022 18:16

YABU. I never take my card with me and only use the app.

NotSorry · 27/07/2022 18:17

There is a separate club card - you can get the code on there if you’ve forgotten your club card

Rummikub · 27/07/2022 18:17

Yes I hate the club card price. Much better when it was genuine offers.

Ffsmakeitstop · 27/07/2022 18:18

We've just started doing that at Coop. But only on a couple of items and I think it's wrong.
If they're making a profit on the cheaper prices then that's what they should charge. Snacks of profiteering to me especially now.

Daffodilsdance · 27/07/2022 18:18

I don’t go to Tesco’s because of this very reason . I had the app , but forgot the password and then it would not connect . I asked customer service and they basically said tough . I had to borrow one from the person behind me in the queue .
Now I go to Aldi and Sainsbury’s.

JaneJeffer · 27/07/2022 18:19

Take a photo of your barcode and it works the same as card.

Ffsmakeitstop · 27/07/2022 18:19

Smacks not snacks ffs.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 27/07/2022 18:20

Just download the app. Problem solved.

SpringSparrow · 27/07/2022 18:20

You just need to add the Tesco Clubcard app to your phone. Annoying for people who don’t have a Clubcard though.

arethereanyleftatall · 27/07/2022 18:20

Yanbu. I guess the figures will soon tell, but I don't personally like the idea of increasing all prices and then selling things at the standard price only with a club card. It hasn't worked for me. I won't shop there if I forget my club card. And I get agitated with the 'you've saved £x pounds today with your club card' that the cashier has been forced to say. ' no, Tesco, you've increased all the prices so I haven't 'saved' anything'

SafeHeaven · 27/07/2022 18:21

It really annoys me that it basically says give us your personal details or you will pay for it

gunnersgold · 27/07/2022 18:22

I have the key ring and it on my app ..
I love Tesco and their club card scheme !🤷‍♀️

SparrowsNest · 27/07/2022 18:22

I have Stocard App on my phone and this holds all my club/points and membership cards.

RedHelenB · 27/07/2022 18:23

Yabu. The Clubcard prices are lower than the standard shelf price and rewarding loyalty.

SnackSizeRaisin · 27/07/2022 18:23

I don't shop there for that reason. Feel like I'm being ripped off

So you walk away with a very negative view of Tesco, and although you might feel positive when you do remember the card there is loads of research that says negative reactions last longer and are more likely to be shared than positive ones.

I do online shopping so haven't been in store for ages but this narked me.

Regards the clubcard app, I will download it but on balance think I'm a lot less likely to pop in to Tesco (or Co Op if they are doing the same)

App on phone

Credit card club card

Key fob club card

Surely you'll have one of those on you?

yoshiblue · 27/07/2022 18:24

Yes I've walked out a couple of times when I've walked past there as I only have my smartwatch not phone and it won't scan off there.

Bloody stupid!

Or give us your personal details and we'll pay you for it?

TheTeenageYears · 27/07/2022 18:26

My daughter sent me a photo of her card when I had left mine at home and didn't have it on my phone anywhere. Now I've put all my store cards in an app called Stocard so i'll never be with out any of them as long as I have my phone.

I tend to think if it as them removing most offers to anyone without a clubcard than increasing prices and reducing them for clubcard holders. It's a different marketing strategy for offers to benefit clubcard holders and just happens to have been introduced at a time that prices have generally increased.

Yes that's the feeling I came away with, it didn't encourage my loyalty (and I'm a big Tesco fan) instead I felt ripped off and went to Aldi, which I do t usually use but actually quite liked, so Tesco encouraged me to spend at their competitor.

I known staff to ask other customers if they'd mind scanning their card. You get the discount and the other customer gets the points. You'll always find another customer doesn't mind.

BeenThereBoughtTheTeeShirt · 27/07/2022 18:27

Keyfob for me.
Read in paper a bloke once had his Clubcard tattooed, bit drastic.
Most customers will happily lend theirs with getting your points as the reward for their kindness.
