To think Clubcard prices causes a negative view of Tesco?

I went in to do a shop, realised I left my clubcard at home but thought I'd be able to find it on my grocery app, or mobile banking.

No, couldn't access it anywhere so instead of doing my top up shop there, probably around £60 I walked out and went to Aldi.

It left me with a negative view of Tesco and certainly less likely to just pop in after a day out at the beach etc when I don't bring my handbag, loads of regular items were 25-30% more expensive without my Clubcard.

Those at Tescos must think it encourages loyalty, it doesn't for me, anyone else?

Do you pay for a Clubcard?

senua · 27/07/2022 19:27

I just wish they’d all just sell things at a decent price, sod the offers
This.

The clubcard prices (and other similar schemes) annoy me. It's the old trick of bumping prices up so they can pretend they are doing you a favour when they 'discount' them back down to where we started.
It makes them look like ScS.Grin

No

Although Tesco now ask for £7 for peak delivery, which is fucking outrageous IMO.

I pay £6.99 a month for deliveries. I can have one every day if I so wish, and at any time.

Some people really do seem to have a persecution complex!

With Tesco?

stargirl1701 · 27/07/2022 19:32

I stopped going to Tesco for this whole Clubcard price thing.

chesirecat99 · 27/07/2022 19:32

I totally agree. Faced with the choice of being forced to let Tesco use my data if I want to shop there at the regular retail price or shop elsewhere, the choice is pretty obvious to me... I don't like being held hostage.

Fine to ask people to sell their data by incentivising them with genuine cheaper deals but what's in it for me if Tesco force me to sell my data for the privilege of not being charged a premium? I'll just go elsewhere and buy it at the "club card" price from a supermarket that doesn't make me sell my data. Ridiculous policy...

Waitrose have different prices for its card holders now too!

I think Boots are going down this route too. I noticed a few ‘Advantage Card’ prices the other day.

Pumperthepumper · 27/07/2022 19:33

Well, that is excellent news! Thank you! Could have done without the insults but some people really do seem to have an inferiority complex.

Pumperthepumper · 27/07/2022 19:34

Sorry @hesttreat don’t know why that didn’t tag, thank you 👍

MrsRyan15 · 27/07/2022 19:34

I have the app on my phone, but signal on our local tesco is terrible and the code has failed to load a few times recently.

The first time I was really annoyed and paid more than I needed to (did consider walking away and leaving the full weekly shop.

Second time, I asked someone next to me if I could scan theirs.

I now have a photo on my phone as a back up but use aldi more than I used to.

TwentyOneTwentyTwo · 27/07/2022 19:34

When I forgot mine I just let the lady behind me have the points so I could get the club card price once. The checkout lady asked her.

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 27/07/2022 19:35

I haven't got a physical card, when I registered it was just the app. Although I haven't got any keys either so having a key fob wouldn't help that much.

At our 'big Tesco' the signal is poor so you have to arse a round connecting to their Wi-Fi.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 27/07/2022 19:35

@Pumperthepumper - yes, it's the Super Saver Delivery. Saves me about £20 - £30 a month.

As examples....

Sainsbury meal deals, sandwich, crisps and drink £3.50

Sainsburys a bottle of campo Viego wine £8

Tescos are the same price as above, however with Clubcard they are £3 and £7

So you will pay more in Sainsburys and less in Tesco with Clubcard!

I don't shop at Tesco, unless I'm passing and need something urgently and the dual-pricing has completely put me off from ever going back. It feels cheap, disingenuous and not indicative of somewhere with good quality or good value.

Do you have a proven example of that happening?

It definitlely isn't the case for all offers, one of my children likes a particular snack for their school lunch, the price never changes and I stock up when they are on clubcard price

That's just one specific thing I can think of off the top of my head and in general I never notice that happening and I do pay attention to prices

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 27/07/2022 19:39

@Pumperthepumper - sorry, the "insult" wasn't aimed at you! It's just that a lot of people on here seem to think that Tesco's is "out to get them" with their nefarious money off schemes!

You get priority Xmas and Easter slots with Delivery Saver too. Well worth it.

WTF had quality got to do with a Clubcard GrinGrinGrin

Cantthinkofausername01 · 27/07/2022 19:43

Your clubcard is on your grocery app, st the bottom

There is no seperate app for it anymore

AppleBottomRats · 27/07/2022 19:47

Yanbu, I always ditch my shop if I'm buying something that's a clubcard price and I realise I've forgotten my card. It's because the clubcard prices are (to me) what the actual prices are/were and they've just jacked up the non-clubcard price rather than it being a genuine discount so if you don't have your clubcard you just feel ripped off.

Fluffymule · 27/07/2022 19:48

SafeHeaven · 27/07/2022 18:21

It really annoys me that it basically says give us your personal details or you will pay for it

I agree with this. I didn't have a Clubcard for years by choice, then they started doing the 'Clubcard price' versus 'non Clubcard price' thing and I felt pressured into getting one to not be penalised. Particularly when it started becoming common that the 'Clubcard price' was not a saving at all, just normal pricing, so those without a card were paying even more.

I can't avoid Tesco completely because they are the only local supermarket to me in a semi rural area - but I do now take the opportunity to do a bigger shop at an alternative like Aldi when I get the opportunity to travel a little further so I visit Tesco less overall.

I thought that but you have to register it first.

I'm not a luddite, and I am Tesco's main demographic, personally I'm not worried about the data, but as a loyal Tesco customer (large family, twice weekly delivery, credit card, insurance etc all with Tesco it did feel like a big Fuck You as a pp said.

This thread shows I'm not the only person to walk out after forgetting my club card. Maybe the tattoo is the way forward ...

@Fluffymule you are not penalised, for not having one, you're rewarded for having one.
