To think Clubcard prices causes a negative view of Tesco?

Alarmclockstop · 27/07/2022 18:13

I went in to do a shop, realised I left my clubcard at home but thought I'd be able to find it on my grocery app, or mobile banking.

No, couldn't access it anywhere so instead of doing my top up shop there, probably around £60 I walked out and went to Aldi.

It left me with a negative view of Tesco and certainly less likely to just pop in after a day out at the beach etc when I don't bring my handbag, loads of regular items were 25-30% more expensive without my Clubcard.

Those at Tescos must think it encourages loyalty, it doesn't for me, anyone else?

It was better when you could save your points for vouchers...days out etc. Then when austerity bit that all stopped

Delphigirl · 28/07/2022 08:03

Refuse to get a club card so don’t shop at tesco
refise to get a boots card so don’t shop at boots

disagree with shops and apps that see me as an opportunity to scrape data. Hence no Facebook either.

totally disagree without differential pricing in shops depending on whether you have sold your data or not (which is what the boots scheme also amounts to).

tgere are lots of other places to shop

EssexCat · 28/07/2022 08:04

@malificent7 you can still do that. I’ve not paid for pizza express or the cinema for years - I always use my Clubcard.

LetsGoRound · 28/07/2022 08:26

I love club card. I have the fob on my keyring so I'm never without it.
Even better that I can use it when fueling my car.
As for my data, I don't care, do with it what you like.

girlfrien · 28/07/2022 08:27

Offer low prices to all. They just want to know all your business.

So no online shopping either? No registration on any website like mumsnet?

Sure. But boycotying Morrisons, M&S, Sainsbury, Tesco, Co-op, Lidl, Farmfoods and Iceland doesn't leave a huge number (and I've possibly missed some). Corner shops tend to be expensive.. Asda are trialling a loyalty card too. So I guess that leaves Aldi, and maybe some chains that are confined to a more local area, like Scotmid, one-stop and maybe Heron.

Allthecoloursoftherainbow · 27/07/2022 22:19

But you don't actually pay until they've picked and packed it, which is on the day of your click and collect. So if the offer has expired by then there's nothing they can do as the offer is not on the system when they scan the stuff through I guess.

Asda honour the deals from the day you do your online shop, so I'm sure Tesco could do the same. But then Asda constantly delivered me meat as a substitution for veggie food, so swings and roundabouts!

You do realise you can still shop at Tesco and boots and not use the cards?

Where do you shop? It must be very limited if you avoid shops just because they offer loyalty cards!

Do you pay cash everywhere?

Exactly! Also paying cash everywhere?

The problem isn't a loyalty card. Lidl have a loyalty card too. It's the fact that you're not actually saving anything because the non-club card price in inflated... which feels a bit disingenuous for them to claim it's some kind of benefit to us

blebbleb · 28/07/2022 10:38

It's so easy with the app now.

Mommabear20 · 28/07/2022 10:43

YOU didn't have YOUR card so that's Tescos fault? YABU!

Not true, as an example the

Meal Deal
Sainsburys - £3.50
Tesco without club card - £3.50
Tesco club card - £3.00

Sacla Basil Pesto
Sainsbury - £2.80
Tesco without club card - £2.75
Tesco club card - £2.25

80 Yorkshire tea bags
Sainsburys - £3.00
Tesco without club card - £3.00
Tesco Club card - £2.50

I would say that Sainsburys are the main rival to Tesco? Do not using a clubcard is losing you £££s.

Isthatyourname · 28/07/2022 11:19

ohlookout · 28/07/2022 06:59

You need to ask yourself why are the prices so much cheaper for club card users? If you're OK with being tracked and having your information sold on then the club card is fine, but I'd rather go to Aldi and not have some randoms knowing that I have pizza for tea on a Tuesday.

Oh who cares 😂 people in the shop know your having pizza for tea, what week your period is, if your having a bbq or a bout of sickness! Why is everyone so precious about their food shopping data when they use socials, emails, debit or credit cards etc! The only way you are not ‘being watched’ is if you live in a hut in the middle of the woods and are paid in cash and spend cash only. Just give it a rest everyone and enjoy cheaper prices or shut up and shop somewhere else, goodness me why is it such an issue!!!

Isthatyourname · 28/07/2022 11:19

Pardon me *you’re

KeyboardWarriorsUnite · 28/07/2022 11:21

I know, that's why I included them in my list.

HowsAnnie25 · 28/07/2022 11:30

I agree with you. I went to Co op the other day, not been for years as there isn’t one in our town. I was looking at their lunch time meal deals but saw they were dearer if you didn’t have a reward card so didn’t buy one as it just annoyed me.

CounsellorTroi · 28/07/2022 11:34

The Co op card is good though as you can actually spend points in store rather than getting your reward in the form of coupons.

rhowton · 28/07/2022 11:52

I have previously forgotten my card and have asked someone in another line if I could scan theirs. Someone has also used mine as they had forgotten theirs.

An 80 pack of Yorkshire Teabags is £2 at B&M.

And petrol to drive to B&M isn't cheap and I certainly cannot spend the time or effort driving to every possible shop!

How much is there Scala Basil Pesto and meal deals?

I forgot to mention that the teabags have 50% extra free, so 120 bags for £2.

B&M, Home Bargains, Farmfoods etc all sell branded stuff for less, sometimes much less, than the big 4 supermarkets.

B&M have a website. Look for yourself for the pesto. Have a look and see how they compare to any other things you have bought from Tesco while you are there. You may be surprised.

Unsurprisingly they don't sell pesto!

I cannot and would not try and do a weekly shop in B&M or Farmfoods, the range of foods is not varied enough and as I said previously, I won't be driving from shop to shop to source the cheapest of everything everywhere. The cost of fuel would make this counter intuitive.

But as I was pointing out Tesco do not raise the cost to reduce it for club card members.
