I messaged a guy a while ago on a dating app. I said 'Hi. how are you? :)'. He responded 'good u'. I unmatched him. Some people thought I was harsh for unlatching him, but I found his reply low effort and rude.

AIBU to think that reply was rude?

Hi how are you is a bit of a lame opener. You needed to ask him a specific question really

Badgirlgonegood · 19/07/2022 20:29

His reply matched your tone perfectly.

ComtesseDeSpair · 19/07/2022 20:29

I think they were both equally lazy, low effort messages for OLD and I wouldn’t have responded to either. It doesn’t sound like either of you were particularly on top form or very interested, so can’t imagine any hard feelings.

ilyx · 19/07/2022 20:30

Your first message was low effort though

MiniMoosey · 19/07/2022 20:30

Perfectly normal response! Yabu!

luxxlisbon · 19/07/2022 20:30

Your first message was pretty low effort too though.

Heytheredeliah · 19/07/2022 20:31

I meant that he should have replied something like 'Fine thanks. How are you?' rather than just 'good u'

YABU. Reasonable response

Ladybug14 · 19/07/2022 20:32

Your message was dull with zero effort. His message was similar, bit worse than yours I guess.

Butterlover1 · 19/07/2022 20:33

Think he might have made a lucky escape 😂

Shouldershrugger · 19/07/2022 20:33

I think you're being precious

dudsville · 19/07/2022 20:33

You may think that, sure, but i think his response matched your effort. Why should he try harder than you?

Heytheredeliah · 19/07/2022 20:34

I was new to OLD at the time so I wasn't really sure about what kind of message to send first

OP posts:
Jemimapinotduck · 19/07/2022 20:34

He answered you in the same way you asked...what were you expecting??? Yabvu

Ontomatopea · 19/07/2022 20:34

You started it with the shit opener

Maybe he's new too then. Ffs

I have already posted what I expected him to say.

I meant that he should have replied something like 'Fine thanks. How are you?' rather than just 'good u'

That's exactly what he said just in fewer characters

It is also more polite than just saying 'good u'

I meant that he should have replied something like 'Fine thanks. How are you?' rather than just 'good u'

Why though? That doesn’t give you any more insight into this person than their actual reply.

You get out the effort to put in, if you want genuine conversations with people they lead to connections you’re going to have to try a bit harder than ‘how are you?’. That’s just filler.

ilyx · 19/07/2022 20:39

This is why you’re single. Man’s had a lucky escape.

Because saying 'good u' in response is just rude in my opinion. I would have happily asking him many questions if he had responded more politely.

i wouldn’t have responded to your lazy opener to be fair

Lindisfarne1 · 19/07/2022 20:44

You sound like hard work to be honest, I think his response was reasonable in answer to what you sent

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 19/07/2022 20:46

It's not rude, it's just a different way of saying something.

And in just one message from each of you, you know you aren't suited.

I'd call that a success story.
