I messaged a guy a while ago on a dating app. I said 'Hi. how are you? :)'. He responded 'good u'. I unmatched him. Some people thought I was harsh for unlatching him, but I found his reply low effort and rude.

AIBU to think that reply was rude?

dunno how it makes you precious 💁‍♀️ I’d have unmatched him too 100% . You can’t elaborate on ‘good u’ … complete lack of personality IMO

Have you actually done online dating? His poor response was a perfect response to her poor message. 'Hi, how are you' is lame as fuck and doesn't incite much of a reply!

Heytheredeliah · 19/07/2022 21:29

I also unmatched someone for asking me to play truth or dare with sexual question. I guess everyone would think I was rude and judgemental for that too

Steak cut chips?

Thanks@Lalalaleeloo now I remember that thread!

Surprised OP isn't stalking M&S to try and date a worker.

Steak cut chips?

I recognise the username too and remember the 'steak cut chips' thread😂

Don't know if it is the same person but it would fit.

Namechangehereandnow · 19/07/2022 21:31

No idea why my post was deleted? ….. I’m not the only one to express that the OP seems awful 🤷‍♀️

I do wonder if he was called Adrian...

I have no idea what you are talking about. I haven't talked about steak cut chips.

Aidan

Ah, yes.

Galvanisethis · 19/07/2022 21:35

Any bloke that uses 'u' instead of 'you' I'd probably avoid chatting further.

Lalalaleeloo · 19/07/2022 21:35

Who's Aidan?

KatherineJaneway · 19/07/2022 21:37

'good u'

U? Prince might have gotten away with that, no one else.

Cass654 · 19/07/2022 21:37

Wow people being harsh on here jesus!! His reply was low effort and would put me off. You can unmatch with whoever you want love if you're not feeling it. I wouldn't of responded to 'good,u' pathetic response. You even put a smiley face ffs. You've dodged a bullet and clearly people on here have no standards. Bare minimum effort is unattractive. Your message seemed friendly. Ignore the harsh critics on here, nothing better to do.

drlel · 19/07/2022 21:37

It is also more polite than just saying 'good u'

Your version is grammatically better but in terms of effort/interest they're identical.

I did old for years and was so sick of "how are you?" as an opener

GretaVanFleet · 19/07/2022 21:38

Heytheredeliah · 19/07/2022 20:31

I meant that he should have replied something like 'Fine thanks. How are you?' rather than just 'good u'

How old are you? I get the feeling that you’d also checking their punctuation.

Tiani4 · 19/07/2022 21:39

YABU

Seriously I don't need to tell up this

Of course not. That seems sensible if that is not what you are after.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 19/07/2022 21:40

It's not rude, it's a lazy response though

alwaysmovingforwards · 19/07/2022 21:41

So you had a lazy opener.
And he replied with a lazy response in text speak which wasn't to you liking.
You unmatched him.

The end.

What are you hoping to achieve with this thread?

Ontomatopea · 19/07/2022 21:41

Heytheredeliah · 19/07/2022 20:51

I don't use dating apps anymore because I found the quality of men on there to be absolutely dire. There were a lot of nice guys on there, but most of them were just awful and rude. When I used dating apps, I used many different opening lines usually based off something I saw in their profile as I got used to OLD.

Why are you dragging this up now then? Are they the one that got away? No. So get over it.

Would have unmatched too
Married friends would say the same to me too or then say something hugely patronising like 'it will happen when you are not looking'. Dont listen to a word people say

Your standards your life

GretaVanFleet · 19/07/2022 21:38

If someone made effort with their messages and seemed kind, I would not care about their grammar and spelling. I would not mind if a guy messaged me saying 'Hi, how are you?' but I would not like it if he just messaged saying 'hi'

OP posts:
NorthernLights5 · 19/07/2022 21:42

It isn't the steak cut chips poster. Of course you'd all know that if you'd all been doing your perfect pairing research
...which the OP and this gentleman clearly weren't!

Ontomatopea · 19/07/2022 21:43

Heytheredeliah · 19/07/2022 21:18

Surely if his grammar was bad (and my grammar is not perfect), he could have just said 'Good. How are you?'. If he didn't know how to write it properly, he could have just mimicked what I said

Why should he change who he is for you.

DangerouslyBored · 19/07/2022 21:44

Count yourself lucky he replied to your lame ass opener. When I tindered, those went straight in the 🗑

Heytheredeliah · 19/07/2022 21:45

Ontomatopea · 19/07/2022 21:43

Why should he change who he is for you.

Not saying he should, but if I don't like something he says, I have every right to unmatch him
