My best friend of over 30 years ...her partner works at a well known chain restaurant that isn't the cheapest.
They get 33% staff discount for that restaurant (any in country) and 40% off other restaurants owned by same company.
To use the discount her partner logs into his staff portal and downloads a voucher which is sent to email and you have 24hours to use it.
You can use a discount voucher every day.
Every time it's my birthday she gets him to get one and he forwards it to her and she gets the 40% off my birthday meal.

Tonight I'm taking my partner to this particular restaurant and when she asked what my plans were I told her -and she didn't offer to get me a discount voucher and just said "have fun"
Now it would cost them nothing to get me a discount voucher

I used to work in a department store and every time she came in I made sure to serve her and she got 30% off
This was off beauty /clothes /homeware even a sofa.
So I've saved her a fortune over the years.

Aibu to think it's a bit tight not getting me a voucher?
These vouchers have no names or anything
Literally just a QR code

It just winds me up as I let her use my staff discount.
She would have been the first one to complain if I hadn't of

She's gave them to her sister and parents to use ...so she wasn't bothered then

So, her immediate family?
Honestly get over it OP, YABVU and entitled

Should you have let her use it though?

sofaslofas · 07/07/2022 13:25

@MandSStoreManager she didn't think I was a CF friend when I was saving her hundreds off a sofa price .....

It is NOT her own staff discount tho

LIZS · 07/07/2022 13:25

Just because his partner can use them does not mean they can hand them out to friends to use when they are not also present. Many staff discount schemes do not apply beyond the immediate household and employees get sacked for abusing the terms of the scheme.

Unescorted · 07/07/2022 13:26

My DH gets a staff discount for family. He would be sacked if he passed that discount on to anyone outside the family.

Maybe you should ask for one rather than asking her to be psychic

^ this

worriedatthistime · 07/07/2022 13:26

@sofaslofas of course their is as the QR code is tracked and if you pay with your card for example its not the same
If the policy is spouse only he is not going to risk his job, even of only a small chance he got caught
Also not many that give out a voucher every 24 hrs and then even less likely that the employee could just hand to anyone

Imogensmumma · 07/07/2022 13:26

I think the polite thing would be to ask in advance, not book and assume you will get one…. Manners never go out of style

More fool you!

est1899 · 07/07/2022 13:27

Stop being a cheap skate and just pay for the meal or go somewhere cheaper!!

Rinatinabina · 07/07/2022 13:28

I have a family card for DH work discount scheme, I have to present an ID to obtain my discount. So they may have changed the rules.

worriedatthistime · 07/07/2022 13:28

Also are any chain restaurants that expensive , Can't think of any where it would cost that much
Your maybe asking her dh to risk his job to save you 40%

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 07/07/2022 13:28

Perhaps she thinks you're being cheeky by expecting a voucher?
Perhaps her partner thinks youre being cheeky.

You told her you were going fully expecting a voucher and not even asking nicely for one.

Bertieboo82 · 07/07/2022 13:30

Were you allowed to give your friend your staff discount out of interest?

Viviennemary · 07/07/2022 13:30

I dont think its something you are entitled to by right. You would need to look at the restaurants policy on discounts.

ABBAsnumberonefan · 07/07/2022 13:30

Stop letting her use your staff discount then.

stuntbubbles · 07/07/2022 13:31

@worriedatthistime I’m thinking Loch Fyne, Browns, Cote, that type of thing vs Pizza Express.

VivaDixie · 07/07/2022 13:31

I think you are being a CF - basically!

ABBAsnumberonefan · 07/07/2022 13:31

I would add as well it’s her partners discount, not hers, so ultimately it’s up to them who they give it out to not your friend 🤷‍♀️

sofaslofas · 07/07/2022 13:34

Well for two mains,2 starters and 2 drinks each it's around £120
So not cheap
I'm not a CF
But after years of her asking for discounts ..it would have been nice to have the favour returned.

It's her birthday and I take her for a meal ...my birthday we have to go somewhere she can use the discount vouchers

OP posts:
IncompleteSenten · 07/07/2022 13:34

She gets you one every year for your birthday.
Maybe she didn't realise you'd feel entitled to one every time you ate there.

I'd let it go and just appreciate that you get one for your birthday.

IncompleteSenten · 07/07/2022 13:35

And yes, if you resent it then either ask for a discount as she does with you, or stop giving her yours.

sofaslofas · 07/07/2022 13:36

@IncompleteSenten she pays for my birthday meal
I pay for her birthday meal-she's the one who saves the money not me
