To hope Johnson doesn't resign?

LonelyPlanetGirI · 05/07/2022 18:51

Because if he clings on until the next GE, he'll be completely unelectable and we'll be rid of the Tories.

I'm hoping he digs his heels in just like he always has, even though by rights he should be fucking off with his tail between his legs.

Are you seriously this lacking in imagination? My dog would be a better bet.

Jetstream · 05/07/2022 21:29

I fail to understand why the personality of Prime Minister should be like a ringmaster. Surely it doesn’t matter if the PM is as boring as hell so long as he/she is competent, honest..ish and accountable.

LAtalante · 05/07/2022 21:30

Imagine Starmer/Corbyn navigating us through (Global) problems of Covid/cost of living crisis

Corbyn? Keep up.

the80sweregreat · 05/07/2022 21:32

What will it take to get Boris Johnson to resign? They will literally have to drag him out by the sounds of it ( sky news just now , he isn't going anywhere !)

Jetstream · 05/07/2022 21:16

My Shep would do a better job. He’s a collie cross and obsessed with tennis balls.

Sounds like a candidate I can get behind.
Sorry Blossom Toes's dog.

Neverendingdust · 05/07/2022 21:37

The country is completely screwed regardless of what happens next. But I do agree with the OP, sometimes it’s better the devil you know, particularly if we were to get a new PM without a GE, can you imagine the horror show of candidates.

the80sweregreat · 05/07/2022 21:07

How does anyone know how the opposition would have dealt with anything when they haven't been in power for 12 years ?
Makes me laugh when people say this because nobody knows ! ..

I think it's fair to say that womens rights would have disintegrated. I know many people think this is scaremongering. What scared me yesterday was explaining to a colleague how a change of regime in Iran meant womens rights disappeared overnight. The colleague thought Iran had always been the way it is now. It definitely wasn't, and my fear is that the rest of the Western world has sleepwalked into this and getting rid of the Tories will drag us the same way. Very scary times.

otherbookmarks · 05/07/2022 21:40

Should have also said obviously Boris should have gone long ago, I can't believe he's still here! But I'd rather a conservative who recognises sex based rights that a labour/libdem/green government who have decided we're dinosaurs and we have no right to hoard our rights.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 05/07/2022 21:40

I won't be around to see it, but it gives me great satisfaction to know that he will be cited in history books as one of the worst, most disliked, prime ministers of Great Britain.

Genevieva · 05/07/2022 21:40

The thing that strikes me is that Boris is exactly the man we knew he was before he was voted into office with a landslide majority. The same people who make a lot of noise on social media have been making the same criticisms of him since he was mayor of London. I am not wholly convinced he would lose a general election because I don't think the people who vote for him read Mumsnet or Twitter or other social media channels. Yes his majority would shrink, but until the SNP's dominance in Scotland is broken the Labour Party cannot win a General Election. Labour was basically born in Scotland, yet it has completely lost its footing there. I think they have one MP in Scotland compared with six Scottish Conservative MPs and four Lib Dems.

Boxowine · 05/07/2022 21:42

Forgive me for commenting, I don't know UK politics well enough. But don't get too optimistic. For some people it doesn't matter what the politician does as long as they are advancing a particular agenda. Look at Trump. No matter what he did or how many of his minions resigned he never went away voluntarily.

Oh ffs

I bet you're still blaming everything on corbyn

Hmm, 'TWAW' Starmer...not too tempting as a woman

Even if every Scottish MP was Labour it wouldn’t make a difference - we don’t have enough MPs to influence who is in power in Westminster.

gnilliwdog · 05/07/2022 21:56

@otherbookmarks I suppose the prospect of people not being able to afford to eat is just more urgent for many people. If you can eat you can stay alive to fight any other issues. Don't see any sign this government has a plan to keep the nation fed.

I hope Labour get in pronto….

Then when the country stays in the terrible state it’s in, people might realise they’re all as crap as each other…

Imagine Starmer/Corbyn navigating us through (Global) problems of Covid/cost of living crisis😱😱🤣🤣🤣

What international human rights lawyer Keir Starmer? That one?

Imagine.

yes I agree. I want him to feel the full misery of another 2 years of this while absorbing the economy tanking and the continuing Brexit clusterf&@k.

i then want the whole lot of the filthy Tory scum out for decades.

me too.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/07/2022 22:03

Have you been living under a rock @otherbookmarks? Under the Conservative Government:
The number of male bodied folk in women's single sex spaces has increased massively.
Women in prisons and at least 1 hospital have been raped.
They have refused to make misogyny a Hate crime.
They have refused to enshrine UK women's right to abortion.
The UK now has its first openly Trans MP. Another dodgy as fuck Conservative.
The party seems to be full of sexual deviants and criminals.
Rape is practically legal.
And that's before you look at how their policies, like Austerity, are particularly detrimental to women.

The Tory Party is not a friend to women.

ChristinaXYZ · 05/07/2022 22:06

ilovesooty · 05/07/2022 20:47

Hardly a justification for keeping the lying bag of shit in office.

Ahh but it is - you see the other lying bag of shit leading a major political party (the one who knows what a woman is but lies that he does not) would sell women's rights down the river for decades.

I am terrified by what a change of leader or government could mean for women. I've voted Labour or LibDem most of my life but I'll vote for any blue rosette next time that is not Mordant, Blunt or Nokes!

No, I'm not living under a rock. i've lost friends because of this fucking awful situation, but are labour, the greens or lib dems better friends? I think not. I'm not affiliated to any political party and obviously the conservatives are trying to make hay while the sun shines. I'm old enough to be on my way out - I worry for my daughters and granddaughers. Look at what's happened elsewhere. We need to fight this now, and truly unfortunately Labour are rejecting womens rights. I really wish they weren't.

YANBU for wanting the Tories to f*k off … But the sooner that floppy-haired fcknugget gets out of number 10, then the happier I’ll be!

I don’t think there is anything. I wonder even about losing a GE. Didn’t Churchill lose a GE, remain party leader and get re-elected as PM? So Bozo would think that’s how you do it. Remember he doesn’t care about Britain, or the people, or even the government. He cares about himself and he wants to be, and thinks he is like, Churchill…..

So yeah, no. There’s nothing that will make him resign. And currently, he can’t actually be fired.

TambourineOfRepentance · 05/07/2022 22:13

Glitteratitar · 05/07/2022 20:06

But people still voted the Tories in, despite having Boris as its leader. So honestly, I genuinely believe that if he stays, by the time of the next GE, he will come up with the same lies that will convince people to vote for him.

Yes. He was an obvious liar whose self interest always came first when he was first elected. The people who slavishly lapped it up then will do it again.

To be honest, when this country has reached its absolute nadir under Johnson, there will be a not insignificant number of voters who really, really deserve it.
