To ask if you pluck your chin?!

buffyismyaltaego · 25/06/2022 21:06

Musing this today as I was out and about and whilst holding my hand to my chin, felt another course hair and couldn't wait to get home and pluck the fucker out.

I noticed in my early twenties that my two small moles in my chin had grown unsightly hairs so I plucked them. Over time, more hairs sprouted from them...then I noticed the odd very long or very course hair on my jawline so would also pluck those out.

I reckon at 42 now I have about 14 hairs that I keep an eye on and pluck. This seems insane to me and was talking to two friends about it earlier. One smiled and nodded and said she does the same and the other scrunched her nose and said it was super weird! I should add the plucker is also quite moley so no idea if that's why!

So, is this a weird thing to do? Does it get worse with age? Am I destined to just add more and more to my plucking routine??

Get a lumea! I was an every other day plucker since teenage years and carried tweezers in my handbag at all times, but now it is a non existent problem:)

Fizbosshoes · 25/06/2022 23:51

I've got a mole on my chin and I used to pluck a coarse hair from there occassionally but now much more frequently and some other moles joined in and sprouted their own hairs 🙄(im early 40s)

I agree its very satisfying, but I've noticed sometimes a white hair grows and those are much more stubborn to get out than the brown ones!! (I have a selection of tweezers)

I’ve been doing mine since my teens (40 now), always had quite a few coarse hairs on my chin. It’s completely normal.

This! Also, I am not hairy anywhere else - thin blonde leg and arm hair not very visible but my chin hairs are dark/red and thick.

frozenorangejuice · 25/06/2022 23:59

Every damn day! I’m thinking about getting electrolysis.

bonnieliesovertheocean · 26/06/2022 00:04

Can never pass over these threads without replying. Why do these things remain reasons for women feeling shame and embarrassment? It is so bloody common. Well done for discussing it in real life OP.

Have had chin/cheek random black and witty hairs since I was in my 20's. No pcos diagnosed. It has gotten a bit worse with age but have to keep it all in check daily if I can be bothered. Shave if I am in a rush, pluck otherwise. All unwiry hairs remain unproblematic despite shaving often. Just the bastard wiry ones evident if not maintained.

LondonQueen · 26/06/2022 00:10

I don't have to because nothing grows there, but I have a terrible hair that grows out of my neck, really thick and black, so I pluck that probably once a month or so once it's long enough to grab with tweezers, tried shaving it once and it looked worse!

D0lphine · 26/06/2022 00:11

I'd kill to only have 14 spiky hairs!

hulahooper2 · 26/06/2022 00:18

White wiry ones , I use home microwave wax kit every couple of weeks , and tweeze when I feel one growing. Does lumea work on light hair ?

SouperNoodle · 26/06/2022 00:20

Yup! I find it really satisfying and also, because I'm a crazy lady that hates body hair, I pluck my moustache and nose hairs! 🤷‍♀️
In a perfect world, I'd have hair on my head, eyebrows and eyelashes and everything else would be bald! 😂

Fraaahnces · 26/06/2022 00:25

Tweezers in the car as natural light is so much better for finding those wee follicular arseholes. (Also tweezers in every handbag, bathroom, bedroom, etc…) I’m blonde and they’re invisible but feel like hairbrush bristles.

AnuSTart · 26/06/2022 07:49

I'm nearly 50 and have never needed to pluck a hair from my face but now I'm worrying that

a) I have just not noticed them and people are too polite to say (doubtful, I'm surrounded by brutally honest Germans).
b) just opening this thread has caused a change in the force and I'll get my first one later today!

In answer to your question OP, my best friends all shave. Up until now I thought they were weird. Maybe I was wrong.

Bednobsbroomsticks · 26/06/2022 07:56

Get waxed and still have to pluck. Got loads little ones on chin. Never had them before. Menopause . But my daughter who's 22 gets long back ones out of nowhere just the one always . We all have thick dark hair.

PaperMonster · 26/06/2022 08:04

I’m 53. I have three or four I keep an eye on. Once I’ve plucked them they’re usually gone for a while but I’m not a hairy person generally.

NippyWoowoo · 26/06/2022 08:14

Another one for PCOS - I get full on laser, with shaving in between 🙈

LegInLegOut · 26/06/2022 08:18

I had to stop plucking as there became far too many to deal with, so resorted to shaving.
Each morning in the shower, I have a shave with shaving gel and razor. By tea time, my goatee has returned. Bah!
Tried various other methods and they failed too.

alphasox · 26/06/2022 08:33

After plucking for 20 years I have taken the plunge and has mine lasered this year. What a revaluation. Wish I had done it years ago (although it’s £££)

Queenoftheashes · 26/06/2022 08:45

buffyismyaltaego · 25/06/2022 21:13

Oh it really is isn't it. Honestly all day I could feel the coarse fucker and couldn't wait to get in and pull it out

Preach. I’m obsessed. I couldn’t have waited to get home I’m constantly pulling at chin hairs in public. The best is doing it in the car in daylight though.

frozenorangejuice · 25/06/2022 23:59

Every damn day! I’m thinking about getting electrolysis.

I bit the bullet. Did take a while to totally eliminate.
Now been 4 years since no plucking. Bliss.

CheshireDing · 26/06/2022 08:56

I had a mole removed on my neck many years ago and I have to regularly pluck the odd hair that vines where the mole used to be

the other week I went to the dentist and when I looked in the mirror later I had a massive (about 2 inch long) hair coming out of the front of my neck ! Dentist must have thought wtf!!

AnnieSnap · 26/06/2022 12:57

Speaking as a 63-year-old who had lots electrolysis in my late 20s, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the bastards eventually come back 😫🤯

inappropriateraspberry · 26/06/2022 13:41

Just found a new hair this morning, a dark one coming out of a mole on my chin! ☹️

ChinBristles · 26/06/2022 13:46

Please note my username! :-)

I have been using a dot of Vaniqua cream twice a day and haven't plucked in weeks. You can buy it on the Dr Fox website. Or some GPs maybe still do it via prescription. It's £60/tube but lasts ages.

ChinBristles · 26/06/2022 13:48

Even thought I have very pale skin and thick, dark hairs, my Boots IPL Smooth Skin thingy didn't work on them sadly. (Or any of my other unwanted hair in fact!)

Oblomov22 · 26/06/2022 13:50

No. I don't pluck. I have electrolysis.

pantsandpringles · 26/06/2022 13:55

I have really dark hair. I have two big black ones on my chin, one white and every now again I'll get a massive blonde one on my upper lip that isn't there for months, then overnight it grows like 5mm!

As soon as I feel them I need to pluck them. I'm 31 and no moles at all, but I'm pretty hairy (snail trail when I don't wax, and my pubic hair seems to naturally cover my upper thighs and stomach too which is an absolute effort to keep on top of)
