To ask if you pluck your chin?!

Musing this today as I was out and about and whilst holding my hand to my chin, felt another course hair and couldn't wait to get home and pluck the fucker out.

I noticed in my early twenties that my two small moles in my chin had grown unsightly hairs so I plucked them. Over time, more hairs sprouted from them...then I noticed the odd very long or very course hair on my jawline so would also pluck those out.

I reckon at 42 now I have about 14 hairs that I keep an eye on and pluck. This seems insane to me and was talking to two friends about it earlier. One smiled and nodded and said she does the same and the other scrunched her nose and said it was super weird! I should add the plucker is also quite moley so no idea if that's why!

So, is this a weird thing to do? Does it get worse with age? Am I destined to just add more and more to my plucking routine??

Yes, pluck every day Smile

Frazzled2207 · 25/06/2022 21:18

Yup similar age to you I have 3-4 that I keep an eye on and pluck and expect to get more

Nein9 · 25/06/2022 21:18

I don't get hairs on my face/chin, but I think it is fairly common! I know my MIL has this, embarrassingly because she joked about it, something along the lines of how it gets worse with age (I'm early 30s), and I had no idea what she was talking about. 🙈

Ginandslippers · 25/06/2022 21:18

I have one on each side (so far!) I pluck as I need them out as soon as I can get hold with the tweezers, I couldn't wait until a waxing or threading appointment! Usually they need plucking once a week ish

PermanentTemporary · 25/06/2022 21:18

I shave, usually once a day as I have beard coverage over my lower face and throat. I have a Phillips Lumea and it's definitely better because of that but not complete.

I work with older women in hospital and yes many of them grow beards while inpatients.

ItsNotworked · 25/06/2022 21:19

Loads I use a lumea but have to use it every 3-4 days to have any effect
I’ve always had them , 2 patches either side on my chin my acupuncturist said it’s to do with my ovaries 🤷‍♀️

Yep...every bloody day. I do have PCOS though, so hairier than average!

Same! I have PCOS and am dark haired so plucking is a daily routine for me.... and I LOVE IT!!! Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer not to have to but I confess, I do enjoy it. I have too many chin hairs to count 🫣

butterflied · 25/06/2022 21:20

I have to. My hair is dark. I hate the fuckers.

PrincessSpanky · 25/06/2022 21:21

Here too Sad

Redpriestandmozart · 25/06/2022 21:22

Bloody hell, I pluck nearly every day as the wee bastards don't appear simultaneously. I have made a pact with two friends in a similar position if any of us are ever in a coma we will pluck for each other. Otherwise, our family won't know us!

melissasummerfield · 25/06/2022 21:22

Ive had to get mine waxed every couple of weeks since the age of about 36 ( nearly 40 now ) It make me so miserable and self conscious, and like a PP said they seem to appear over night.

Im also fair so laser hair removal not an option.. sob.

CMOTDibbler · 25/06/2022 21:23

Oh yes. I have a patch of black ones under my chin, and then a load of coarse white ones. How do they grow so fast? They are like mushrooms. The white ones are worse as its easy to miss them and then I find a giant hair.
My mum had a pretty good goatee going by her late 70's, so maybe its genetic

Smileyaxolotl1 · 25/06/2022 21:23

I’m 43 and have to pluck every few days and some are coarse.
no PCOS or similar. It’s normal. I’m quite fair too.

Labdo · 25/06/2022 21:24

Yes I grew a fucking beard when pregnant with my son. I’m only 27 🥲

LubaLuca · 25/06/2022 21:25

I have one rogue wiry one. I like it to get long enough to twiddle for a couple of days before I pluck it. Then I keep it for a bit to wonder at - I sit it on the edge of my white keyboard to show it's dark thickness off.

TheBigPeach · 25/06/2022 21:25

my mother had a real problem with it on her face and chin, it got so bad she just couldn’t maintain it, literally she would have to wax weekly. It was such an embarrassing problem for her.

as soon as I realised I was going down the same route I booked myself in for electrolysis. I think I had 6 treatments in all. It definitely helped ALOT but I have a smattering of hair that needs daily maintenance. I use those facial shaver things at the moment, sometimes I wax, it depends

lljkk · 25/06/2022 21:25

how bad is it... you know those memes or whatever circulars are called, you get on Facebook, about "would you live in this broken wooden shack for one year without internet" and I'm thinking, "Who cares about internet? What about insulation, running water and a roof that doesn't leak or clearing insect life from your bed each night?"

But actually all that could be withstood. However, no flipping razor to keep the chin hairs under control. That really WOULD be the height of civilisation lost if you ask me.

To ask if you pluck your chin?!
dudsville · 25/06/2022 21:26

I have a mole that grows a hair and a few chin hairs. The growth of mine has slowed massively with menopause. That was unexpected! My nose hair is the problem now as none of the methods are perfect. I was speaking to someone yesterday who had a big hair growing out of the top point of her nose. Our bodies are not by nature glamorous!

Loadedforest · 25/06/2022 21:28

I’m 43 and I have loads of coarse dark hairs I pluck. It’s very enjoyable to do it too although sometimes time consuming!

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 25/06/2022 21:28

Yes. Been needing to do more frequently now I'm in my 50s. Only thing is that some of them are growing in white. I can feel them. The are very course, but when I go to the mirror I can't bloody see them to get a grip of them because I need reading glasses!

I also get stealth ones that just seem to suddenly grow to 2 cms long without me noticing.

BobSacamono · 25/06/2022 21:28

Had super duper professional laser to deal with mine after first DC was born. A few started to make a comeback ten years later and got a Braun IPL through an Amazon lightning deal. Zapped them away and haven’t returned.

Loadedforest · 25/06/2022 21:29

I do worry about if I get asked to go on I’m a Celeb though - I’d have to smuggle tweezers in

Oh gosh, I haven't ever really examined my nose!! Off to get the magnifying mirror....

Not yet. I'm sure my time will come.

breathslowly7 · 25/06/2022 21:31

Yes, I’ve got loads, got much worse in the last few years as I hit mid 40s. One good thing about wfh is I can tweezer them out if I feel the bristle. I need a way to sort them out by not using tweezers, as have a spotty chin now.
