To wear shorts to the office?

Does it look unprofessional? I’m not really a dress/skirt kind of person.

I work in a corporate environment - but people do wear trainers, T-shirts etc

To wear shorts to the office?

Those are cycling shorts so yes they are unprofessional. A nice linen pair long in the knee I think would be acceptable.

Svara · 20/06/2022 22:21

Tailored shorts just above the knee, I wouldn't go as short and tight as that photo.

Bryonny84 · 20/06/2022 22:21

Hmmm, they look like cycling shorts and not sure they would go down well. More tailored shorts probably OK. Saying that though, nowhere I've worked would allow shorts to be worn in an office and personally I wouldn't wear them.

tiredanddangerous · 20/06/2022 22:22

Cycling shorts? Hell no. No one needs to see camel toe in the office.

Yodaisawally · 20/06/2022 22:24

Tailored shorts yes, not those, they look like cycling shorts

EmmiJay · 20/06/2022 22:24

Thats a casual meal in the city look to me. Like pp said tailored shorts will look more professional. Styled with a crisp white roll sleeve shirt or something.

HSKAT · 20/06/2022 22:24

We have a smart casual dress code but things like this aren't allowed

Svara · 20/06/2022 22:24

I don't actually find shorts any cooler than lightweight ankle length trousers so I don't see the point really.

violetsanddaisies · 20/06/2022 22:25

Is that a look now? I saw someone at the train station this morning in cycling shorts and an oversized blazer and noticed because it looked odd... Definitely not smart office wear.

Svara · 20/06/2022 22:26

Are there any men in chino shorts?

Palavah · 20/06/2022 22:27

Noone needs to see a pudenda next to the photocopier

LongPath · 20/06/2022 22:28

Surely if it's warm enough for shorts you don't want a blazer?

nocoolnamesleft · 20/06/2022 22:28

Another vote for tailored shorts maybe, cycling short lookalikes no.

summermornings · 20/06/2022 22:29

Lycra shorts????? Come on now!

Tailored, belted shorts are popular right now and can look professional . Something like this or maybe a bit longer

LongPath · 20/06/2022 22:31

We had to remind staff of the dress code last week after a (secondary English) teacher turned up in cycle shorts...

edwinbear · 20/06/2022 22:32

Unless you work in a gym, just no.

They aren’t Lycra 🤔

That outfit wouldn't be acceptable in anywhere I have worked. I'd opt for a pair of wide legged culottes instead perhaps.

KarlWrenbury · 20/06/2022 22:38

No. Just no. And I love shorts

Beercrispsandnuts · 20/06/2022 22:39

Well the image in your op and the link to the play suit are very different items

honestly I think if you need to ask you likely shouldn’t be in a corp environment.

Augend23 · 20/06/2022 22:42

Shorts in theory, yes. Those shorts: no.

There are loads of shorts suits available currently, I don't fully understand it myself but I think it's possible to wear shorts and look professional.

There's a world of difference between wearing a t shirt to work and wearing cycling shorts. I guess the equivalent in my head to the cycling shorts would be maybe a football strip or one of those gym vests. Whereas a smart t shirt might be equivalent to some tailored shorts.

What link to a play suit?

They aren’t Lycra 🤔

Because that’s what the problem is?

funkysheep · 20/06/2022 22:47

I could imagine ending up wearing something like that because I'd forgotten the rest of my work clothes - I cycle to work, and skirts really don't work on my bike (so I sometimes wear workwear on my top half plus cycling shorts). But I haven't managed it yet - I think the fear of looking more than a little ridiculous helps.....

redbigbananafeet · 20/06/2022 22:47

The first photo and the link are entirely different. The first are cycle shorts. The others are closer to the mark but still too short. Rule of thumb if you wouldn't wear a skirt that length or tightness then the same applies to shirts.
