To wear shorts to the office?

Does it look unprofessional? I’m not really a dress/skirt kind of person.

I work in a corporate environment - but people do wear trainers, T-shirts etc

To wear shorts to the office?

I think some shorts could look professional and smart but that example picture is not one of them that does. They're for a gym or a bike not an office.

ClearButtons · 20/06/2022 23:52

Everyone is so outraged at your question lol

I actually think the outfit is nice (not that I could pull it off!) but whether appropriate for office depends on the vibe/culture and the role! I worked for a woman's fashion company (not a young one though) and the buyers/designers/marketing would wear similar to this at work. Finance and HR probably not 😎

Spermysextowel · 21/06/2022 00:02

If you’re not a dress/skirt kind of person, maybe try trousers.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 21/06/2022 00:06

Ok moving past the very slight confusion about links, the general consensus is that the shorts in your original post are not professional.

You asked, they answered. Do with that what you will.

My opinion is that it will depend on your company dress code. Those shorts wouldn't be acceptable in any office I've worked in.

Muppetryofthepenis · 21/06/2022 00:13

This reminds me of when my husband's crazy colleague showed up to teach wearing children's sized tracksuit bottoms which showed off his junk. Not joking.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 21/06/2022 00:15

The shorts aren’t professional regardless of the material. But you’re determined to not listen to people by being pedantic so yup, wear them and enjoy being reprimanded by your bosses for dressing inappropriately in a corporate environment

Kastri · 21/06/2022 00:22

Cropped trousers in linen or cotton are ideal,or as someone else said, culottes.

calmlakes · 21/06/2022 00:27

I think some shorts could look quite smart.
Cycling shorts will never be those shorts!

Linen makes me heave. Have it on your bed not your body.

If you want to wear shorts to the office I’m presuming it is to keep cool, therefore you are highly unlikely to be wearing a smartish blazer with them like the picture you have posted, going to the office in a pair of skin tight cycling shorts in a corporate environment is a huge faux, imagine if Nigel from accounts followed your lead, no one wants to see his meat and two veg and no one wants to see your camel toe either!

Bunnycat101 · 21/06/2022 00:44

My office has become very lax recently and we’re getting away with things we wouldn’t have done pre-lockdown but those shorts would be a no even in our very relaxed environment. Too tight/short. Over the last few weeks the standard office wear seems to be a floaty dress and trainers whereas a few years ago the trainers would have most definitely not been included.

Happyhappyday · 21/06/2022 00:47

I would but I can wear literally whatever I want to work. I definitely used to wear shorts… no one in my office wore shoes either 🤷‍♀️.

AnnieSnap · 21/06/2022 01:16

Cycling shorts? Absolutely unprofessional! Knee length tailored shorts are probably fine.

Yes its probably too classy for your style.

Agreed. My DH has a lax dress code, but shorts, especially like those pictured are a no no.

Plus if you are doing it because of the heat, I extremely doubt you would be wearing a blazer.

Maybebabyno2 · 21/06/2022 04:19

I would wear shorts to the office but not legging type ones.

I don’t have cellulite

Everyone has cellulite

HoppingPavlova · 21/06/2022 05:56

No. Decently styled 3/4 length pants would be okay. Not shorts.

BetterDaysareComming · 21/06/2022 05:57

Personally, I don't think those shorts look professional. I think it looks like you've cycled to work then forgot to get changed.

Mally100 · 21/06/2022 06:16

If you work in a corporate environment then you must know this is completely inappropriate unless you are being goady.

I agree. @hellomynameisshark is being eyes wide open goady as fuck.

Faux incomprehension.

What link? I didn't post a link! Despite admitting seeing a link. They're not lycra 🤦🏻‍♀️

FFS.

KarlWrenbury · 21/06/2022 06:32

I don’t have any cellulite. Seriously!

KarlWrenbury · 21/06/2022 06:35

No to linen trousers (not just on this thread but in life)
m they’re unflattering mum trousers. The refuge of all who have given up

Lunar27 · 21/06/2022 06:39

I'm so glad I work from home and can wear whatever I like.

I thought that photo looked fine OP but have no idea of corporate sensibilities and how prescriptive dress codes are.

NewOrleansOrDie · 21/06/2022 06:44

Everyone has cellulite
Do they? I'm 48 and I haven't got any.

There is a type of shorts you can wear to the office. Just like there is a style of dress or trousers that is appropriate office wear.

Those shorts in the first photo are not appropriate for the office. But other shorts are.
