To ask how you wash your knickers?

Not the poo troll 😄💩

I have always washed mine on 40 with a general load (trousers, t-shirts etc).

I want to start washing my clothes at 30 to see if it keeps them looking newer for longer, but I’m not comfortable washing knickers and socks at that temperature.

I’ve had an initial investigate, but the jury seems to be out. Some say 30 is fine, some say 60 and others say you need to add a disinfectant.

I’m now not sure if I should have even been washing them with my other clothes at all!

What to do!?

30 is fine.

piglet81 · 07/06/2022 15:52

Bung them in with everything else. 30 degrees is fine.

shivawn · 07/06/2022 15:52

I just throw them in the wash with everything else, sometimes I do 30°, sometimes 40°.

orwellwasright · 07/06/2022 15:53

Maybe if I'd been suffering with thrush perhaps I'd want a higher temperature to kill any spores (boak). But other than that I'd feel happy with 30.

maddy68 · 07/06/2022 15:53

Just bunged in with everything else. Never really thought much about it

dizzydizzydizzy · 07/06/2022 15:54

60 or 70. Kills the pathogens.

Justcallmebebes · 07/06/2022 15:55

Me too. Bunged in with everything else at either 30 or 40. Not something I've ever really over analysed

Pixiedust1234 · 07/06/2022 15:55

30 is fine especially if you use wash powder. Its made to clean properly at that temperature...unless you have thrush or another medical reason.

HousePlantLandlord · 07/06/2022 15:56

I’ve always been a 30 washer and my knickers are super white & clean :)

Pushing30 · 07/06/2022 15:57

At 40 with the rest of the wash.

SirChenjins · 07/06/2022 15:57

In with everything else at 40 with bio powder. I’m still here, as are my nether regions.

Curiosity101 · 07/06/2022 15:59

I always chuck everything in together at 30 and have never had any issues. I only separate colours.

The only time I do anything different with respect to hygiene is if there has been a stomach bug in the house. I'll use bleach or oxidising cleaner (like Napisan or Vanish) with heat in that case. Oh and we're currently potty training DS so there's been a few potty training accident washes that I've put on at 60C with Napisan.

Laiste · 07/06/2022 16:00

40 degrees normal wash here.

It's DDs white school socks i can never get bloody clean! I'm going to have to start saving them up for a hot white wash with vanish Hmm What do they DO to get the bottoms of their socks that colour?!?!? She swears she isn't running about without her shoes on but .....

<sorry. mutters off>

Lacedwithgrace · 07/06/2022 16:00

30 with bio detergent

LauraNicolaides · 07/06/2022 16:01

This will just escalate! Very soon those who wash knickers separately from all other items at 95° in Dettol will be shamed by those who boil each pair separately in special equipment to prevent "cross-contamination".

(Who will then be humiliated by the very nice ladies who wear each pair only once and incinerate them in a special hazardous waste bin Grin)

Smorgasbordbaby · 07/06/2022 16:01

Everything in my house gets washed at 30 or below and underwear just goes in as part of a general load. My mother thought all underwear should be washed separately on a boil wash then ironed and was horrified when she discovered that my boarding school did not do that with our clothes. I have enough going on in my life that I cannot even think about doing a different wash for undies and there's no fucking chance I'm ironing them.

TheKeatingFive · 07/06/2022 16:02

30 is fine. But it never ceases to amaze me how much work some people on here make for themselves with their laundry.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 07/06/2022 16:02

Mostly 40 with bio powder. Occasionally I bung the white cotton ones through on a 60.

Reallyreallyborednow · 07/06/2022 16:03

Bio detergent is designed to breakdown biological fluids. And work optimally at 37 deg.

So i usually wash with bio at 30-40. Occasionally I’ll chuck them on a hot wash with non bio if I’m putting a load on.

10HailMarys · 07/06/2022 16:05

I wash everything on 30 or 40 except bed linen and towels.

You are wearing your knickers for (I would hope) no more than one day, and you are (I would also hope) the only person who is going to wear them again. You won't catch anything from your own knickers washed at 30 degrees.

StarlightLady · 07/06/2022 16:07

The same as my bras, 30 0r 40 degrees depending on the rest of the wash. Always in a delicates bag though. They keep their colour (I don't do white or beige) and I've never had any problems.

starlingdarling · 07/06/2022 16:09

Always on a 30 and in with the rest of my clothes. The sole exception are my period pants which also go in at 30 but on a separate load to spare DH (who does most of the washing).

Laiste · 07/06/2022 16:10

@LauraNicolaides you forgot the other way.

Those who only wash their drawers in dew gathered from the lawn once every 6 months with soap hand made from stale urine and ground up pebbles because - The Planet. And everyone else should be ashamed!!

justamushypea · 07/06/2022 16:12

Another vote for throwing them in with everything else on a 30 degree wash here. I've always done this and I'm still alive 😁

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 07/06/2022 16:14

How can you be an adult and not know how to wash your underwear?
