To ask how you wash your knickers?

Not the poo troll 😄💩

I have always washed mine on 40 with a general load (trousers, t-shirts etc).

I want to start washing my clothes at 30 to see if it keeps them looking newer for longer, but I’m not comfortable washing knickers and socks at that temperature.

I’ve had an initial investigate, but the jury seems to be out. Some say 30 is fine, some say 60 and others say you need to add a disinfectant.

I’m now not sure if I should have even been washing them with my other clothes at all!

What to do!?

I'm equally puzzled by the "Outdoor" and "Sportswear" settings on mine

i use sportswear setting a lot. Lycra leggings, tees, sports bras etc that are a bit too delicate to go on a cotton wash but need something more robust than a delicate or silk wash. Does a slightly higher spin and a more agitation. With two sporty teens it’s great.

outdoor I don’t have. Possibly that might allow for dirt/mud or special coatings on fabrics?

User112 · 07/06/2022 17:00

I wear them into the shower, take them off in the shower, hand wash them with hot water + shower gel and then toss into the laundry basket to wash with others clothes.

Reallyreallyborednow · 07/06/2022 17:01

When they have blood on them I soak them in water with detergent

cold water and salt for blood :). Breaks the red blood cells apart so they can be washed off. I usually do a cold rinse then a 30 with the rest of the washing.

AxolotlEars · 07/06/2022 17:01

Everything in together....all colours, types of clothing...at 40° but to be honest if it made it past 30° I would be surprised. I also only use half the amount of washing powder

@Dalekjastninerels - You was yours? Is there something wrong with your butler 😂 ?

Alas due to financial limitations I do not have a butler 😆😀

scrivette · 07/06/2022 17:03

I only handle them with special tongs and bleach them all beforehand. Wink

30-40 depending on what I am washing them with, usually 30.

Explain?!

Chakraleaf · 07/06/2022 17:05

I just chuck in a 30 or 40 wash unless someone is ill

60 or 70. Kills the pathogens.

What pathogens are on a pair of knickers from a healthy person? Maybe if you have a stomach bug or such, but it's not like they come off your body contaminated with frigging ebola or something.

Mine go in on a 30 or 40, usually with the towels to make a wash up. (I live alone and don't make much washing.)

Bayleaf25 · 07/06/2022 17:06

40 bunged in with other stuff by colour.
Non Bio powder

QuestionableMouse · 07/06/2022 17:08

Maybe an overshare, but I once wore the same pair for ~48 hours (travelling with my boss for work, got separated from our luggage and didn't have much choice.)

Nothing bad happened, and I didn't feel particularly unclean either. It's not something I'd do on a regular basis but it did show me that the panic over everything being bleached or boiled is a bit mad!

Chikapu · 07/06/2022 17:09

Does anyone genuinely disinfect their knickers? What do you think you might catch off them 🤔

Figstar4eva · 07/06/2022 17:12

Hot wash, separate load.

wink1970 · 07/06/2022 17:13

On 30 - all my (underwired) bras & knickers go in a 30 mins wash with anything else delicate. I do add Dettol Laundry to each wash though.

Pathogens made me laugh!

Can smallpox be carried via womens underwear?.

I bung mine in with everything else at 30 degrees.

AnotherPoster · 07/06/2022 17:14

Usually do mine at 60. It doesn't bother me if they get done at 40 once in a while.

I wouldn't wash anything at 30. Even pure wool gets hand washed at hand temperature (39, if it is accurately measured.)

80sMum · 07/06/2022 17:15

Unless you have threadworms or pubic lice or diarrhoea (and didn't make it to the loo in time), just wash your underwear in a normal wash load with everything else.

I often use the 30 degrees 30-minute quick wash programme for my stuff, as I don't think it needs any more than that.

I always add a cap of desinfectant, not because it's knickers but because the desinfectant makes it all smell nice and fresh 😊(specially under the arms where I can be quite smelly) as I mostly wash at cold temperatures. In the end I feel like it saves me money because I can use a shorter program with a lower Tº and I get the same results.

poppyflower1803 · 07/06/2022 17:16

Always washed at thirty with bio detergent, full cycle and absolutely fine!

Tagliatellme · 07/06/2022 17:19

With everything else at 30 or 40 of course.

HobnobsChoice · 07/06/2022 17:19

I wash mine in an entirely separate washing machine at 90c with a bottle of dettol per load and then hypochlorite.
I then tumble dry and iron them while wearing a hazmat suit. My special separate washing machine also has a haz mat suit. My seperate washing machine has its own laundry room is also a decontamination chamber. Can't be too careful about what pathogens might be there. I then bathe in hibiscrub

To ask how you wash your knickers?
Sarahcoggles · 07/06/2022 17:19

This is a truly bizarre thread. If people think their nether regions are so toxic that any material that has come in contact with them needs disinfecting , how do they have sex? Or are people thinking that poo just leaks out and soaks through the knickers every day?
I wipe when I go to the toilet, and wash my underwear at 30 degrees with everything else.

Another vote for throwing them in with everything else on a 30 degree wash here. I've always done this and I'm still alive 😁
