Will Charles abdicate?

FawnFrenchieMum · 04/06/2022 21:59

Just that really, do you think Charles will abdicate and pass to William?

They seem to be priming William & Kate to take on the roles and are much more public then Charles

YANBU - yes he will
YABU - no he won’t

No he winna.

Hoolahulahoop · 04/06/2022 22:01

I don't he will pass it on as Kate and William have small children and it's too much at this stage for them.

Skinnermarink · 04/06/2022 22:02

Well no, what would be the reason to?

OneTonNoodles · 04/06/2022 22:03

Absolutely not. He loves glory and power. He was furious when people loved Diana more than him.

Crankley · 04/06/2022 22:04

Never. No question in my mind.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 04/06/2022 22:04

Not a chance
What made you think so?

sixnearlyseven · 04/06/2022 22:05

No he wouldn't. Unless he becomes very ill or senile perhaps.

Justcallmebebes · 04/06/2022 22:05

Of course not, that's not how it works

SenecaFallsRedux · 04/06/2022 22:05

Of course not.

LadyLolaRuben · 04/06/2022 22:05

No, he's waited too long

emma1103 · 04/06/2022 22:06

Why should he? It is his birthright. Let William and Kate enjoy their life before taking on that burdon.

Ohdoleavemealone · 04/06/2022 22:07

Nope! The poor guys only purpose in life is to be king! He wont pass on it.

RedHelenB · 04/06/2022 22:07

The whole point of royalty is following the line of succession. So no, it won't happen as Charles is next in line.

Or maybe he'll abdicate and we can elect a ceremonial head of state instead.

Grotbag81 · 04/06/2022 22:07

He was raised from birth to be King, so no I don't think he will.

The impression I'm getting is a tight knit King Charles and William, William won't be waiting as long as Charles to get there.

WildRosie · 04/06/2022 22:07

No way. Besides, he hasn't even got his hands on the big gold chair yet.

TheDepthsOfDespair · 04/06/2022 22:07

No I don’t think so. But he’s probably aware that he may not have a very long reign and therefore William may be King before too long anyway.

WalkerWalking · 04/06/2022 22:08

Nope, not a chance.

The only reason we see more of W+K is because the PR machine at The Palace know that they're more bearable popular than Charles.

FriedTomatoe · 04/06/2022 22:08

No, he won't. In saying this he looks so miserable I think he'll end up dying within 5 years of making it. Definitely no spring chicken.

TambourineOfRepentance · 04/06/2022 22:09

The thing with having an unelected head of state is that it doesn't really matter if they're universally hated and/or useless. You're stuck with them.

SunnyShiner · 04/06/2022 22:09

Course not. He can't wait to be King Charles

easyday · 04/06/2022 22:10

No why would he? He's only 73 and fit. He probably can't wait. First job is to boot Andrew to the curb though.

UrsulaPandress · 04/06/2022 22:10

Hell no.

Grotbag81 · 04/06/2022 22:10

I've grown to quite like Charles and Camilla. Charles is like the final ember of the past leading to a new dawn of Monarchy with William and Kate.

Anonymouseposter · 04/06/2022 22:11

I don't think he will abdicate, he will consider it his duty to take the role of king. I don't think that he has been eagerly waiting in the wings and particularly wants to be king though.
He is already 73 and doesn't know how long he will be healthy so William is being involved alongside him. Charles is likely to have a fairly short reign and will already be quite elderly when he comes to the throne. He might need support from William in the role.

cdba88 · 04/06/2022 22:11

Why would he?

Do you not remember the fuss that was caused by the last abdication?
