Naked children at tourist spot - diagram included

Basically children playing/ swimming naked at a tourist waterfall. Strange or not?

Longer. So to me this didn't seem right. Yesterday I went to visit a very pretty waterfall - my first attempt at a MN diagram attached 😂 There is a car park then a walk of less than 1km up to the waterfall with a stream running down from the waterfall.

Got to a very pretty bridge and could see up to the waterfall. But couldn't take any pics or actually really look cause there were about 4 DC buck naked having a swim! It was raining and not that warm. But also just thought it was a really weird/ inappropriate place for DC to be swimming at all, 1 dad was with them, 2 mums were sitting (blocking a lot of the path) making flower chains/ pictures.

Went further up and there was another dad and a dc maybe 6ish on the surrounds of the plunge pool. Which was rock covered in green moss/ ferns. Walking back to the car there was 1 dc the far side of the bridge with no adult supervision dc looked maybe 4. Again lots of moss. Reasonably fast moving stream😑

IDK, I know kids like being naked and swimming but this wasn't the place was it?! The car park holds maybe 50ish cars and all spots were taken + 1 small bus load of Americans (one lady insisted on taking a pic of me and DH when we were taking a selfie which was nice!). It didn't seem busy but there had to be 100ish ppl milling around. Judging by the amount of signs in German/ French it must be a popular tourist spot.

Anyway:

YABU - Children can swim naked at tourist spots why wouldn't they
YANBU - It is weird

I think it depends on the age of the kids, are we talking toddlers and pre-schoolers or much older?

DanteThunderstone · 23/05/2022 17:02

I have no firm views either way but that's a very good quality diagram, well done.

Sleepingsatellite1 · 23/05/2022 17:03

Why did it bother you?

MajorCarolDanvers · 23/05/2022 17:03

You say the kids are about 4 years old - then I don't see any problem with this.

BlackAndPinkNose · 23/05/2022 17:03

You mention signs in German / French - I think the Germans are a bit more relaxed about nudity than Brits so don't think it would be that unusual. Also age is relevant too as mine would strip off at any chance when they were under 5

PAFMO · 23/05/2022 17:04

2 year olds or 16 year olds?
Either way, producing a diagram and starting a MN thread about it is weirder still

MolliciousIntent · 23/05/2022 17:04

Is it a paid attraction? If so then YANBU. If it's literally just a waterfall in the wild then YABU.

Furrbabymama87 · 23/05/2022 17:05

Yanbu, I don't let my kids naked in public and I don't want to see other people's kids naked, regardless of age. Yes it's just innocent kids having fun but there are paedophiles and we teach kids that privates are private so it makes no sense to allow them naked in front of strangers.

Seeline · 23/05/2022 17:05

Is it in the UK?

Pettypettypatty · 23/05/2022 17:05

YANBU, children should not be naked in a public place.

fluffycereal · 23/05/2022 17:05

Great diagram.

MajorCarolDanvers · 23/05/2022 17:07

I think the diagram is weird

WhatNowwwww · 23/05/2022 17:07

I’m surprised the majority think this is ok. I wouldn’t want strangers seeing my children undressed at any age to be honest. If necessary I’d have let them swim in their underwear and taken them home with clothes but no underwear on. I can’t think of a single situation where I’d let them swim naked in a public place.
Maybe previous experience as a teenager is affecting my poor opinion of how men can behave 😔

Werent their parents there???

MidnightMeltdown · 23/05/2022 17:09

They probably weren't British. Europeans don't have the same issues with nudity

thebabynanny · 23/05/2022 17:10

Unsupervised 4 year old near water is a big issue!

Naked under 7s, I couldn't really get wound up about.

MintyMoocow · 23/05/2022 17:10

Sounds lovely to me! Children should be happy in their bodies.

Ihatemyjob22 · 23/05/2022 17:12

Yesterday at a very busy park with water fountains that had lots of children playing in the water, a lady changed her daughter into a swimming costume getting her completely naked in the process and not even trying to shield her. I would say she was about 7 or 8 and I felt it was so inappropriate. Anyone could have had their camera phone out at the time even accidentally catching her in the background. I think when it's a toddler it is a bit more accepted but I still don't feel it is right. With phones all around it is dodgy and not fair on the kid.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 23/05/2022 17:13

Christ on a bike. Why was a diagram needed?

Naked children 🤷‍♀️

What exactly are you concerned about?

hopeishere · 23/05/2022 17:14

How old were the children? Personally I'd not let my kids do this I'd rather they went in with pants on than totally nude.

I get they need to love their bodies but gender don't walk about naked so they also need to realise / respect that.

Hogging the path also annoying.

ComDummings · 23/05/2022 17:15

I don’t like it. I teach my children that genitals are private so I don’t allow them naked in public because it sends a mixed message. If we are at the beach and they need to get changed I hold a towel over them and don’t make a big deal about it.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/05/2022 17:17

Are you bothered about perverts or your ruined photo opportunity?

DelphiniumBlue · 23/05/2022 17:18

What is the mixed message?

Irishfarmer · 23/05/2022 17:18

I think the kids aged from about 2 to 7. It bothered me because I wanted to take pictures. But didn't want to take pictures (or have pics) of random naked children. I wanted to take pictures of the pretty bridge/ waterfall.

I don’t like children being naked in public (I have never allowed mine to be) and I think small children swimming in cold and fast flowing water, with only one adult in with them, is dangerous. Ditto unsupervised preschooler near water.

But I’m not sure I’d care enough to produce a fancy and unnecessary diagram and start a thread about it.
