Naked children at tourist spot - diagram included

Basically children playing/ swimming naked at a tourist waterfall. Strange or not?

Longer. So to me this didn't seem right. Yesterday I went to visit a very pretty waterfall - my first attempt at a MN diagram attached 😂 There is a car park then a walk of less than 1km up to the waterfall with a stream running down from the waterfall.

Got to a very pretty bridge and could see up to the waterfall. But couldn't take any pics or actually really look cause there were about 4 DC buck naked having a swim! It was raining and not that warm. But also just thought it was a really weird/ inappropriate place for DC to be swimming at all, 1 dad was with them, 2 mums were sitting (blocking a lot of the path) making flower chains/ pictures.

Went further up and there was another dad and a dc maybe 6ish on the surrounds of the plunge pool. Which was rock covered in green moss/ ferns. Walking back to the car there was 1 dc the far side of the bridge with no adult supervision dc looked maybe 4. Again lots of moss. Reasonably fast moving stream😑

IDK, I know kids like being naked and swimming but this wasn't the place was it?! The car park holds maybe 50ish cars and all spots were taken + 1 small bus load of Americans (one lady insisted on taking a pic of me and DH when we were taking a selfie which was nice!). It didn't seem busy but there had to be 100ish ppl milling around. Judging by the amount of signs in German/ French it must be a popular tourist spot.

Anyway:

YABU - Children can swim naked at tourist spots why wouldn't they
YANBU - It is weird

Sounds like this wasn't in the UK. Europeans are not prudish like we are.

I would find it weird and it would make me feel uncomfortable.

TabithaTittlemouse · 23/05/2022 17:20

I think it says more about you than them tbh.

TrivialSoul · 23/05/2022 17:21

Such a simple pleasure to strip off and have a play in the water. I'm unsure why you felt you couldn't look, it's children playing for goodness sake. Unless you are sexualising this in some way then what is your concern? They had adults with them and sound like they were having a blast. Relax and live a little.

otterlybonkers · 23/05/2022 17:23

Nope, I am happy for kids to enjoy their bodies. I think the problem lies with sick and twisted men, as usual, and it is this that ought to change, not kids behaviour.

I hate how as a society we arrange everything around not tempting men, around avoiding their crimes. It's a fucking mess.

I also dislike how we are inadvertently teaching kids to hide their bodies or associate them with attack or shame. As a culture we are not moving forward.

I don't think the diagram is at all relevant to your question tbh.

EsmeSusanOgg · 23/05/2022 17:25

Agree @otterlybonkers

SommerTen · 23/05/2022 17:26

Can. Not believe you drew a diagram.

Divebar2021 · 23/05/2022 17:27

I’m not at all surprised some people have a problem with this… probably the same people who wear pants and pyjamas to bed.

Eightiesfan · 23/05/2022 17:28

A few years back our town square was refurbished with a large fountain. In the summer the number of buck naked children playing in the fountain while their parents sat outside one of the cafes was ridiculous. Why would you allow your children to run about naked in a busy town centre where any number of perverts could take photos?

Libertaire · 23/05/2022 17:28

I don’t have an opinion about people allowing their children to swim naked. It’s up to them.

10/10 and a ⭐️ for the diagram, though.

Snoken · 23/05/2022 17:28

Being Swedish I can't see a huge issue with this. We all swam naked as kids on public beaches, and kids still do. Not all of them of course, but it's definitely not unusal. Even in fountains in cities, on particularly hot days, you can see naked small kids. I don't think we have more or less pedophiles than other countries, but you shouldn't stop enjoying life's littles pleasures just because they exist.

oioimatey · 23/05/2022 17:28

I was always butt naked in pools when I was a wee lass.

Werent their parents there???

And what? If the parents are there, doesn't mean some dirty nonce isn't getting their rocks off at your child. You do everything you can to protect children.

Victim blame much 🙄

They probably weren't British. Europeans don't have the same issues with nudity

Definitely this. I've worked in 17 countries over the years, many in Europe and UK is actually quite unusual for our views of nudity. Much more relaxed on the continent.

I see this thread is going to be a vicious one.

And that will affect the child how? What hysterical planet are you on, are they getting their rocks off in their minds or are they wanking in public in full visibility?

Finalcountdowntoourtripaway · 23/05/2022 17:30

What's the point in the Pants rule if being naked in public is OK with the dps?

Genuinely don't have the words for this Sad

Also it was cold here yesterday. No more than 14 degrees and raining, although it wouldn't have been safe in hot weather either. I have seen kids swimming naked at beaches/ rivers/ lakes. But this seemed like a very odd place for them to swim and even odder naked. It didn't seem like somewhere that ppl should swim. Lots of ppl were taking pictures of the waterfall/ scenery so I guess the parents didn't mind that 100s of ppl will now have naked pics of their dc. It would bother me.

Diagram took 2 mins and seemed like the easiest way to describe what I was trying to say. I'm sat on the couch heavily pregnant and sore from too much walking yesterday. Wanted to see what ppl thought, guess they think I am a prude. That's fine.

I think the kids aged from about 2 to 7. It bothered me because I wanted to take pictures. But didn't want to take pictures (or have pics) of random naked children. I wanted to take pictures of the pretty bridge/ waterfall.

And FYI if you had accidentally captured any naked children in your picture, you would have been in possession of child pornography, which is illegal.

Ps for anyone who doesn't know- sending, for example, a picture of your own child naked in the bath, to their own father, counts as distribution of child pornography, and is similarly illegal.

StageRage · 23/05/2022 17:32

Wouldn’t bother me.
