Naked children at tourist spot - diagram included

Basically children playing/ swimming naked at a tourist waterfall. Strange or not?

Longer. So to me this didn't seem right. Yesterday I went to visit a very pretty waterfall - my first attempt at a MN diagram attached 😂 There is a car park then a walk of less than 1km up to the waterfall with a stream running down from the waterfall.

Got to a very pretty bridge and could see up to the waterfall. But couldn't take any pics or actually really look cause there were about 4 DC buck naked having a swim! It was raining and not that warm. But also just thought it was a really weird/ inappropriate place for DC to be swimming at all, 1 dad was with them, 2 mums were sitting (blocking a lot of the path) making flower chains/ pictures.

Went further up and there was another dad and a dc maybe 6ish on the surrounds of the plunge pool. Which was rock covered in green moss/ ferns. Walking back to the car there was 1 dc the far side of the bridge with no adult supervision dc looked maybe 4. Again lots of moss. Reasonably fast moving stream😑

IDK, I know kids like being naked and swimming but this wasn't the place was it?! The car park holds maybe 50ish cars and all spots were taken + 1 small bus load of Americans (one lady insisted on taking a pic of me and DH when we were taking a selfie which was nice!). It didn't seem busy but there had to be 100ish ppl milling around. Judging by the amount of signs in German/ French it must be a popular tourist spot.

Anyway:

YABU - Children can swim naked at tourist spots why wouldn't they
YANBU - It is weird

@Sleepingsatellite1

And that will affect the child how? What hysterical planet are you on, are they getting their rocks off in their minds or are they wanking in public in full visibility?

Genuinely don't have the words for this Sad

Well that’s a pointless comment then.

Oh so as long as they don't touch the child it's OK for them to mentally store the image of a child or perhaps take a photo. No it fucking isn't! I hope to god you don't have children

ILoveMyLifeToday · 23/05/2022 17:34

YANBU I'd feel the same.

TabithaTittlemouse · 23/05/2022 17:34

Ahh you were worried that they would be cold?

PriamFarrl · 23/05/2022 17:34

Furrbabymama87 · 23/05/2022 17:28

And what? If the parents are there, doesn't mean some dirty nonce isn't getting their rocks off at your child. You do everything you can to protect children.

But, and I know this won’t go down well, if some nonce is getting his rocks off, your kids won’t know, you won’t know.
If some random bloke comes over and is hanging about then that’s a different matter.

Mentally store the image 🤯

bg21 · 23/05/2022 17:34

so most important question what country are you in ?

fluffycereal · 23/05/2022 17:34

Well that’s a pointless comment then.

I don't think it was tbh. I'm sure there are plenty of people who know exactly why I was unable to put into words my disgust.

JudgeRindersMinder · 23/05/2022 17:34

Perish ugly that these kids would get in the way of your photos 🙄
Catch on to yourself

JudgeRindersMinder · 23/05/2022 17:35

*perish the thought

SpeedofaSloth · 23/05/2022 17:35

YANBU.
Excellent diagram BTW.

x2boys · 23/05/2022 17:35

My kids never went naked but I remember as a small child being naked on a beach
I'd be more concerned about the water tbh

Sleepingsatellite1 · 23/05/2022 17:35

So awful that kids can’t enjoy a bit of innocence in the care of their parents in case someone mentally stores an image 😨

CousinKrispy · 23/05/2022 17:35

Bottom line (HA HA HA) is that I don't think it's your business to worry about it.

And if the water was cold, swimming costumes certainly wouldn't keep them any warmer. Getting into dry clothes after they're done will warm them up.

Ok 🤷‍♀️

WalkerWalking · 23/05/2022 17:36

Fwiw I think kids up to about the age of 4 or 5 being naked on the beach is perfectly fine and quite common (even in this awfully repressed country 😏) But I do agree that it's a bit different if it's a smaller touristy destination, and everyone is staring at the same spot, which is exactly where the naked children happen to be.

Harridan1981 · 23/05/2022 17:36

4 or under, that's ok I guess.

Sounds like a home ed meet.

PAFMO · 23/05/2022 17:37

I'm now confused as to why it's ok for children to be naked in a lake or on a beach but not at a waterfall.

Me too, it doesn’t sound safe to swim in at all.

ilovesushi · 23/05/2022 17:37

When my kids were little I can remember having a a chat with a friend at the beach one time and she was wondering if it would be weird if the kids had a swim in their pants - it was an unseasonably hot day in early spring. As we were chatting we noticed our kids had stripped off completely and were about to run into the water butt naked. It was funny rather than weird and solved the no swimwear dilemma.

Regenbogen22 · 23/05/2022 17:37

@Irishfarmer where are you? Which country? Little more info please!!!

Hospedia · 23/05/2022 17:38

Newsflash: a paedophile will "get their rocks off" (to use a phrase above) regardless of what a child is or isn't wearing and you will never know what is going through the heads of the people around you - you'll encounter people every day who "perve" on your child without you ever knowing.

Randoms at a waterfall seeing supervised-but-naked children are not that much of a concern, statistically s child is far more likely to be abused by someone they know as trust provides access and access provides opportunity.

FreetheKhalo · 23/05/2022 17:38

Sleepingsatellite1 · 23/05/2022 17:03

Why did it bother you?

In the op she explained she didn’t feel she could take a picture and didn’t know where to look. She also mentioned it not seeming safe as it was fast flowing.

WalkerWalking · 23/05/2022 17:39

Because the waterfall is a very clear centre of attention, everyone is staring in that direction, and most people are taking pictures.

It's not the same situation on most beaches.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/05/2022 17:40

Being German I do not really see a problem below school age (6y).
And I still remember the hilarious "stranger danger" broschure translated from the English that admonished children to "not let strangers touch the parts of your body that would usually be covered by your swim wear"

And the really impoetant thing is - staring and observing is rude. You do not look.
And covering up to avoid tempting someboy is not something to be aimed for anyway.
