Naked children at tourist spot - diagram included

Basically children playing/ swimming naked at a tourist waterfall. Strange or not?

Longer. So to me this didn't seem right. Yesterday I went to visit a very pretty waterfall - my first attempt at a MN diagram attached 😂 There is a car park then a walk of less than 1km up to the waterfall with a stream running down from the waterfall.

Got to a very pretty bridge and could see up to the waterfall. But couldn't take any pics or actually really look cause there were about 4 DC buck naked having a swim! It was raining and not that warm. But also just thought it was a really weird/ inappropriate place for DC to be swimming at all, 1 dad was with them, 2 mums were sitting (blocking a lot of the path) making flower chains/ pictures.

Went further up and there was another dad and a dc maybe 6ish on the surrounds of the plunge pool. Which was rock covered in green moss/ ferns. Walking back to the car there was 1 dc the far side of the bridge with no adult supervision dc looked maybe 4. Again lots of moss. Reasonably fast moving stream😑

IDK, I know kids like being naked and swimming but this wasn't the place was it?! The car park holds maybe 50ish cars and all spots were taken + 1 small bus load of Americans (one lady insisted on taking a pic of me and DH when we were taking a selfie which was nice!). It didn't seem busy but there had to be 100ish ppl milling around. Judging by the amount of signs in German/ French it must be a popular tourist spot.

Anyway:

YABU - Children can swim naked at tourist spots why wouldn't they
YANBU - It is weird

I wish the British weren't so prudish about nudity. I went to the beach recently and the weather was so much nicer than I expected, but I didn't have a swimming costume so I couldn't swim in the sea/big rockpools ☹

So what if they do?

You happy for naked pictures of your children to be posted on pedo websites?

Well that’s quite a shifting of the goalposts now, isn’t it?

I’m quite intrigued at how you jump from naked children playing in a fountain to sex sites. That’s not normal.

SlightlyGeordieJohn · 23/05/2022 19:17

I don’t get the need to put pants on them. The fact that weirdos like you are getting worked up over a little boy’s penis is worrying, but part of life.

There’s a difference between simply not wanting to see someone else naked - which isn’t weird in the slightest - and getting worked up, which you don’t seem to have grasped.

Sounds like either Powerscourt or Glencar, is it one of them OP? Beautiful spots both.

I have no issue with younger kids frolicking around naked, however I always have this awful feeling that someone is hidden around with binoculars or a long focus lens having a jolly old time looking at them. So a pair of knickers or swim nappy would solve all the angst wouldn't it? I would not expose the genitals of a child in a public place myself, too many pedos about and most people will look anyway with no malice intended. Not good either way. Just my uncomfortable opinion.

SlightlyGeordieJohn · 23/05/2022 19:26

No, posters on here are definitely getting worked up about it.

I really don’t like seeing obese people in Lycra, but that doesn’t give me the right to complain when they are out and about.

And yet... you decided to do exactly that, and body shame which doesn't reflect well on you.

No, not really champ, I’m not opposed to people putting pants in their children if they want. Jumping from nakedness to sex, when it involves children, is messed up.

Body shame? Close to home?

Wagw1 · 23/05/2022 19:30

You have issues, who said sex? Weirdo of the highest order @SlightlyGeordieJohn. Put a cozzie on your kids.

3WildOnes · 23/05/2022 19:30

If my children want to strip off naked to swim at the beach/river/lake/rock pool that is fine with me.
I don't teach them that they have to keep their bodies private. I do teach them to keep healthy boundaries, so they don't have to hug anyone they dont want to etc.

I would of gone in, in undies :)

If the kids were out of nappies I personally would of let them go in, in their pants, just for the sake of others tbh.

I'm a size 10, would you like a picture?

Irishfarmer · 23/05/2022 19:31

@GirlCrushxxx I am a country person - I live on a working farm. It wasn't warm yesterday and was raining, well v heavy showers. I mentioned the moss because it is slippery. I also mentioned in my OP that ''But also just thought it was a really weird/ inappropriate place for DC to be swimming at all''

'This. What a repressed nation we are.'

There is absolutely nothing 'repressed' about protecting the privacy of small dc. Do you run about naked in public, if not why not?

I’m not a small child. 🤷‍♀️

Stop telling other people how to parent based on your hang-ups. You are coming across as unhinged here, and I am not going to take parenting advice from someone who needs help.

@BreakorMake Glencar. It was very beautiful there. Went and saw a few other places as well.

Hear hear

This. Luckily this is how my family are too. I have never been embarrassed by my body as a child, teenager or adult.

Peanutbuttercupisyum · 23/05/2022 19:39

I think it’s weird. Would be totally different if it was a natural pool that everyone came to swim in.
But it isn’t - people park up, walk up and down the path taking photos of the beautiful scene. It’s weird for a large family gathering to jump in naked in this situation

Wagw1 · 23/05/2022 19:41

@kateandme tell me about it. No idea what her problem is, and dragging random women into it too. Very odd.

What a nasty thing to say & so crude.

Irishfarmer · 23/05/2022 19:42

@3WildOnes I don't think ppl should be ashamed of their bodies. But would you be happy to have yourself or your DC naked in 100s of tourists pics?

OP posts:
BDeyes · 23/05/2022 19:42

I too wouldn't want strangers looking at my naked children regardless of dcs ages can't believe other parents would be comfortable with it, why didn't the parents just leave their dcs knickers or underpants on.
shame you couldn't get your waterfall pics op.

ATadConfused · 23/05/2022 19:44

Snoken · 23/05/2022 17:28

Being Swedish I can't see a huge issue with this. We all swam naked as kids on public beaches, and kids still do. Not all of them of course, but it's definitely not unusal. Even in fountains in cities, on particularly hot days, you can see naked small kids. I don't think we have more or less pedophiles than other countries, but you shouldn't stop enjoying life's littles pleasures just because they exist.

OMG a healthy outlook on naked children playing in water. MN will implode.
