To have never opened porn by mistake?

AlternativePerspective · 30/04/2022 06:41

MP Neil Parish says he may have opened porn in Commons by mistake www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61280625
I never realised it was that easy, having only been using the internet for the last 20 years n all.

And now the poor love is being persecuted for his innocent mistake.

Seriously how stupid does he think people are?

Yanbu. I've managed to not come across it after 20 years on-line.

Buildingthefuture · 30/04/2022 06:46

Agree. I saw him on the TV, spluttering, trying to make excuses for what he very obviously did do. Vile man, he needs to go…..

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 30/04/2022 06:54

You don't need to be on the internet to open porn on your phone if you already have it stored on your phone. Given how many MP's have said that they struggle to get a signal and a Wifi connection inside the chamber, I think it's pretty likely that what appeared on his phone was already stored on there. Whether he opened it intentionally or accidentally is another question.

HelloSpringIveMissedYou · 30/04/2022 06:56

Nope, me neither.

I'd like to understand why he was on his phone in the first place, was he googling something they were discussing, if so what on earth were they discussing?

He was on the news last night and was directly asked if it was a mistake and he said to wait for the enquiry. If it was genuine no way Jose then surely you'd vehemently deny it.

Slimy toad of a man.

TulipsGarden · 30/04/2022 07:02

Actually I have. But I closed it very quickly, swore a lot and immediately told IT what had happened. I have to Google all sorts of things for my job and it came up as an ad (can't have a pop-up blocker installed because of software we use).

So yes, if you're using the internet it is possible. But you don't sit and watch it long enough for two other people to notice, because you're AT WORK.

Anyway. The Tories will minimise this just like everything else, and he'll get away with it. Because Boris literally doesn't give a shit.

alexander2001 · 30/04/2022 07:06

His boss plus Patel (work place bullying) both stuck to their stories and remained in position

So its very probable he will do similar and remain in position having issued a sincere apology.,,, after all, as his wife says "most men watch porn"

RishiRich · 30/04/2022 07:24

Ugh, he was disgusting on TV yesterday. "I will have to wait for the results of the investigation" - where have we heard that one before?

truhamboys · 30/04/2022 07:29

I imagine it was the last thing he was looking at on his browser and when he opened up his browser to do something else, unsurprisingly it was still there.

Lex345 · 30/04/2022 07:34

If at the next General Election, the Tories don't use Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me" as their party political broadcast, I am going to be supremely disappointed

GaspingGekko · 30/04/2022 07:35

Well I've never opened porn accidentally. But I have accidentally opened other things that were inappropriate in the circumstances - e.g. a loud game in a work meeting.
My reaction was to gasp, panic, flap around with my phone, go red and shove my phone out of sight. If anyone had been watching they would have seen that what happened was a pure error.

I think it's perfectly possible that he opened it by mistake. But I also think that the 2 eye witnesses wouldn't mistake someone accidentally opening porn and quickly stopping it for someone actually watching it.

Kittykatmacbill · 30/04/2022 07:46

Actually I have it was about 12 years ago and for work I was trying to work out Russian rail timetables and every .ru website I opened even if they looked like they maybe official appeared to have porn pop up. I reported myself to IT every time, they were stop looking at Russian websites and I can’t I have to provide some data on Russian railways…

longwayoff · 30/04/2022 07:48

I've not done that in 30 years or so of working with IT. Oddly, during that time I've met many who used 'it just happened' as a defence. They were all as believable as this man.

Wheniruletheworld · 30/04/2022 07:51

"...it just went off in my hand..."

Rosebuud · 30/04/2022 07:52

Apparently he opened it by mistake on two seperate occasions at work and he was seen looking at it both times by colleagues.. Very unfortunate for him really….

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 30/04/2022 07:54

I did once mis-type a website address at work and get a porn site (in front of a patient 😳). What I didn't then do was sit there and watch porn.

shivawn · 30/04/2022 07:55

Well I definitely have although never at work. Mostly back in my late teens/early 20's when I was broke and using dodgy websites to download software etc illegally and would have to deal with a bunch of porn popups!

LeeMucklowesCurtains · 30/04/2022 07:58

Oh come on, didn’t you know this is a real problem for men.

It’s almost an epidemic for the poor creatures.

Will no one save the men from being targeted and hunted by these easily opened porn sites, and of course, the dating apps that suddenly appear on phones without their knowledge?

And especially the porn sites that then hypnotise them into sitting and watching for hours at a time.

Us women know not of this terrible affliction.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 30/04/2022 08:04

He is a filthy disgusting pig and should resign immediately.

swapcicles · 30/04/2022 08:06

Easy enough if he was looking at it previously and opened up his browser later on.
I use my phone occasionally to check things for customers although it's usually Mumsnet that pops up on the screen that they see 😂

I guess though the only reason you'd actually have easily accessible porn actually stored on your phone is specifically so you can watch it in a place that has unreliable WiFi - such as the chamber perhaps?!

Absolutely

BogRollBOGOF · 30/04/2022 08:18

20+ years ago before pop-up blockers were a thing, you could easily have "unprofessional images" come up- like the league of Nuts magazine. That's not been an issue in the era of a mobile phone.

I've never had a problem with accidental porn because I've never searched for it or clicked on obviously dodgy spam. It's not that hard to avoid.

Admittedly our filters on work's internet could be a tad strict. Annoying when BBC News was blocked as "entertainment" when I needed it to create resources about recent issues.

As a PP said, if by some remote chance it was accidental it would be quickly shut down in a panic reaction. To ignore it is to deliberately watch it anyway so the lame excuse doesn't even work.

Well it's not the only plausible reason even though it's by far the most realistic.

Some apps save photos and video by default, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility it was sent to him by someone else, he's opened it to look at it, then either forgot to close it properly, or opened the same app/his saved items and accessed it for a second time through clumsiness.

I'm being extremely generous to him here as I think it's overwhelmingly likely the correct answer is the obvious one, I'm just pointing out that you can not conclude that the only way this could have happened is for Parish to have wilfully gone surfing the internet looking for porn. There are other possibilities, no matter how improbable, so whether you, I, or anyone else has ever 'accidentally opened porn on the internet' is not particularly relevant until such time he claims that is indeed what happened.

FWIW I certainly have, but it only really used to happen when I was accessing specific sites that I knew had poor security, and only back when browsers and OS didn't have the sort of pop-up killing tech and firewalls that they do now. I absolutely knew what I was getting myself into, so it's not the sort of thing I would ever have attempted on a device in a public place.

toastofthetown · 30/04/2022 08:24

I've come across porn on some dodgy streaming sites at university. But then he shouldn't have been trying to stream Heroes for free in the Commons either.
