To have never opened porn by mistake?

AlternativePerspective · 30/04/2022 06:41

MP Neil Parish says he may have opened porn in Commons by mistake www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61280625
I never realised it was that easy, having only been using the internet for the last 20 years n all.

And now the poor love is being persecuted for his innocent mistake.

Seriously how stupid does he think people are?

Never happens to me, never happens to women.
This guy's statement, he thinks "men will know it's no big deal but women should believe me".

roarfeckingroarr · 30/04/2022 13:50

Have you never been sent a WhatsApp that looks innocent then something dodgy flashes up? I only have once or twice, but it happens.

Blimeyherewegoagain · 30/04/2022 13:52

It reminds me of this

a: why are you on whatsapp at work in the 'commons?
b:You'd shut it down and go straight to you boss, explaining what happened/showing the message etc.

Not watch it, the hide away, let others take the rap, wreck the HoC reputation (if thats possible) go on breakfast TV demanding the tough action be taken against the offender.

Blueeilidh · 30/04/2022 14:04

I certainly have done accidently but not recently as filters are better now but for example I've googled pictures of cakes for inspiration and clicked on a picture I liked only to find it's screen for inappropriate content.
I don't believe him at all though

LostOrFound · 30/04/2022 14:16

my computer at work once picked up a virus that meant any time I had a browser window open I could get a porn site pop up entirely unexpectedly. I could be happily working on a spreadsheet, the suddenly my screen could be filled with porn. It was very embarrassing- luckily IT managed to fix it!

I don’t believe that is what has happened here!

secretskillrelationships · 30/04/2022 14:22

I thought watching porn at work would be considered gross misconduct in most workplaces, knowing someone dismissed on that basis in the early 2000s (office job, no safeguarding issues etc). So I’m quite frankly flabbergasted that there has been any debate at all!

Zilla1 · 30/04/2022 14:25

Do we know what the debate was about? For all we know, it might have been something to do with digital or media or protecting vulnerable women and children or something and needed to make a small but vital contribution and whatever he was looking at helped him finish off?

Zilla1 · 30/04/2022 14:28

Well it's like work when he needs the protection of due process like everyone one would have in the workplace as the Equalities? Minister said on R4 this morning. It's not like work in other ways though, coincidentally mostly in ways that are generally to the benefit of the office holders.

ManateeFair · 30/04/2022 14:32

Anyone who saw him would easily be able to tell from his reaction if it was accidental or not. A former colleague of mine got his phone out to look something up once when we were travelling back from a meeting and his browser opened on something, er, extremely inappropriate. He blushed to the roots of his hair, closed it down with a nanosecond in a blind panic. I just pretended I hadn’t noticed because it was clear that it wasn’t intentional and he was visibly mortified. I’m pretty sure if something like that had happened to Parish, his Tory colleague wouldn’t have reported it and certainly wouldn’t have described it as ‘watching porn’ in front of her. The implication is pretty clear that it wasn’t a split second thing.

Zilla1 · 30/04/2022 14:41

Perhaps he waited as he thought it was like Youtube where there is an advert or two played before the video that is chosen, just a very long advert or two with actors not wearing many clothes. Perhaps an advert for a nudist beach holiday or condoms or a public service promotion for NHS STI checks or something? Or he was so shocked at inappropriate videos in the esteemed chamber that he couldn't react, well his 'phone holding fingers couldn't react.

To be fair, the public don't know if he is one of the 10%? of MPs against whom sexual misconduct allegations have been made. There's still a majority of MPs who haven't had sexual misconduct allegations made. Probably. That must be somewhat good mustn't it?

Zilla1 · 30/04/2022 14:48

Any reaction in the groinal area would probably be inadvertent. And let's hope the women MPs didn't look down there as that would be clear sexual harassment. As would them looking at his 'phone and getting him into trouble. Don't they know the rules of the (boys') club?

There was an interesting statement on R4 this morning that this is best kept quiet otherwise the press might harass him by doorstepping him. It would probably delay an investigation by making it public and undoubtedly the right result would happen and more quickly if only this could be kept quiet. Such discretion might only be good for MPs and not stop MPs by making statements about members of the public using Parliamentary privilege. That's a good thing.

Don't think about any MPs or party members or firms who might have earned £m? advising the BVI government as the arrest of the BVI Premier is entirely unconnected to any of the issues, just unwelcome distractions before the elections that will endorse the Government.

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 30/04/2022 14:48

I once had to try and access some dodgy sites at work to test a system. Before I did it I went to my colleagues in the office and explained what I was about to do and exactly why, just in case I succeeded. Like you would.

Zilla1 · 30/04/2022 14:52

@Blimeyherewegoagain exactly, accidents happen. Probably repeatedly. Might be Russian hacking of the mobile phone. Terrible lack of support for hard working MPs by the Parliamentary IT support services and UK security services. No, dont look at his browsing history as they might have been hacked too.

intwrferingma · 30/04/2022 14:53

The poor man has just explained, in resigning, that the first time was a mistake and that he thought he'd been looking at tractors. Bless. His only mistake was 'going in a second time'

DrManhattan · 30/04/2022 14:55

I hope you are being sarcastic with 'poor man' or I fucking despair

BreakorMake · 30/04/2022 14:56

Well he has resigned. Said it was deliberate.

Mobile phones should be banned in the Chamber anyway. Let them focus on the drivel of debates instead.

Zilla1 · 30/04/2022 14:59

@DrManhattan Do you work for Central Office? Long delays and something to consume the oxygen in the debate like leg crossing.

intwrferingma · 30/04/2022 15:00

@DrManhattan of course I am!
This thread is laden with it

LivingDeadGirlUK · 30/04/2022 15:00

Pre ad block and in the days of dodgy music and film downloads it was very easy to accidently see pornographic material. However the BBC has reported that he was looking at tractors and accidently ended up on a site with a similar name.

I'm desperate to know what 'notatractor.com' was!

Zilla1 · 30/04/2022 15:01

Tractors and porn must be easily confused or is he going for a job with the NFU post-MP career?

intwrferingma · 30/04/2022 15:02

I live in a rural area. I must ask my farming friends about their problems accessing Massey Ferguson online

Rosebuud · 30/04/2022 08:39

I can’t imagine he will be voted in again , although I think they need to and will fire him.

I mean who the fuck sits and watches porn or looks at indecent images at work and where others can see what you’re looking at. He would have known those women could have seen his phone. There is something deeply wrong with this man.

and his wife is no better, declaring it’s partyly the woman’s responsibility for posing for rhe images and that not many people would still be married if they got upset about their husbands watching porn,,eh it’s not the watching porn that’s the issue it’s watching it at work and when others can see the images.

something wrong with the pair of them. He needs ro he fired and he can stay home watching as much porn as he likes and she can sit and blame the woman who make it.

They'll both be at home because she'll lose her job too. Serves them both right.

Zilla1 · 30/04/2022 15:06

easy to mis-type a search for 'Massive Fergus' 'John's Dear' and there's one called 'Escorts Group' An accident waiting to happen. There ought to be a law. If only there was a Chamber where laws could be past to protect poor male MP's from accidents.

Theimpossiblegirl · 30/04/2022 15:07

Happens to me all the time. I also often attend parties without realising and don't like paying tax. Vote for me!
