To have never opened porn by mistake?

MP Neil Parish says he may have opened porn in Commons by mistake www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61280625
I never realised it was that easy, having only been using the internet for the last 20 years n all.

And now the poor love is being persecuted for his innocent mistake.

Seriously how stupid does he think people are?

Nope it's bullcrap. It does not happen. What does happen is emails from fake profiles offering to "meet girls in your area" as well as on facebook.

But porn appearing on your laptop out of nowhere?

As someone who has been a daily laptop and personal computer user for almost 20 years, this does. not. and. cannot. happen.

You have to have looked for it.

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 30/04/2022 10:11

Blokes send each other porn quite a lot in WhatsApp groups. And there is always those 'hilarious' pics where in the message stream it looks like a serious picture about a topical subject (eg. An election map, or covid certificate etc) but when you actually click on it, its been cropped and the actual larger picture has porn on it. DH gets sent all sorts of crap in some of his groups, Funnily enough I don't get sent anything like that.....

It's not known the nature of what Parish was actually looking at, whether he was literally sat watching a pornographic film whilst in a select committee meeting, or whether he was looking at WhatsApp and someone had sent him something vile.

I'm not defending him at all by the way, whatever it was he shouldn't have been looking at it at work, especially not as an MP. But it wasn't necessarily 'streaming porn from a website'. And if it happened twice, he really needs to stop looking at WhatsApp at work, or reassess who is in his groups who can send him stuff.

PupInAPram · 30/04/2022 10:11

It puts me in mind of a much younger colleague who would describe her one night stands as "accidentally falling on a penis".

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 30/04/2022 08:04

He is a filthy disgusting pig and should resign immediately.

Yep

brokengoalposts · 30/04/2022 10:17

I once had porn pop up on my phone. I was looking for directions and scrolling when it suddenly popped up, no idea if I'd accidentally hit something with my thumb but there it was in all its glorious action. I have never shut something so fast in my life, I cleared everything down on my phone and deleted history etc. it has never happened since. What I didn't do is sit and watch.

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 30/04/2022 10:19

Sorry, I can see that the thread has moved on since I started writing my post this morning and I've repeated others points!

I was Hmm at the wife's 'it takes two to tango' comment - totally uncalled for under the circumstances, why did she bother saying that?

This is a man who apparently voted against gay marriage because of his 'Christian morals' 😆

I'm another who often has Mumsnet pop up first when I open my phone!

Rainbowshit · 30/04/2022 10:23

I have. But as another poster said I reacted by panicking and trying to shut it down. Even though I was in my own and not in a work computer.

Skinterior · 30/04/2022 10:24

I've definitely entered what I thought were benign searches in Google Images and questionable content has come up.

But I have fully working hands so I can get rid of them very quickly.

mudgetastic · 30/04/2022 10:24

Way back in the 1990s it was common

You'd search for something innocuous and the top hit would be porn when you opened it

Hasn't been like that for decades now

And there is a difference between watching and deleting, between watching and being outraged

Florenz · 30/04/2022 10:26

He was probably looking at porn earlier in the day and left the website open so it was showing on his phone when he looked at in the house.

Babyvenusplant · 30/04/2022 10:29

I don't believe him for a second but I've been sent stupid videos on WhatsApp before where its just a typical boring video and then all of a sudden it switches to graphic porn 🙄

I wouldn't be opening video messages in meetings though

opensunflower · 30/04/2022 11:03

Its like the Little Britain sketch isnt it

BruceAndNosh · 30/04/2022 12:03

@XDownwiththissortofthingX Is that you Mrs Parish?

opensunflower · 30/04/2022 12:56

I think we must all wait for the findings of the enquiry

MardyOldGoth · 30/04/2022 12:58

I did once, on a uni computer in the 90s, when I was new to this Internet thingy. Spent a week waiting to be thrown out for it! 😄

UnsuitableHat · 30/04/2022 13:00

YABU. Even whilst opening your thread I accidentally accessed a hardcore porn site, and the neighbours saw.

FrankLeeSpeaking · 30/04/2022 13:02

I remember back in the day it was funny to send links to people disguised as funny videos etc that redirected to porn sites.

But I think most people are wise to that now.

Most people are not allowed to be on their phone at work. Why are MPS allowed to be on their phones in the commons?

UnsuitableHat · 30/04/2022 13:03

@opensunflower Yes, definitely shades of Sir Norman Fry!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/04/2022 13:03

he must have been an addict, according to the news on radio 4 yesterday morning

1dayatatime · 30/04/2022 13:08

Whilst I have never opened a porn link by mistake, I have mysteriously and unknowingly ordered large amounts of stuff from Amazon and some dubious fashion online clothes orders, often late a night and often after drinking.

So I guess this things do happen...

ItsYabbaDabbaDoTime · 30/04/2022 13:17

No, but I did get some interesting results when googling directions to a pub called
The Black Cock 😀

DrManhattan · 30/04/2022 13:17

I think I might actually be clairvoyant, as I know exactly what will happen. He won't resign, he will be cleared, nothing will happen and we will all forget about it (and some will continue to vote Tory)

Somuchgoo · 30/04/2022 13:21

A pop up when a mistyped an address 20 years ago...

The Tories are in enough 'trouble' as it is. Opening something scientific, panicking and then closing it quickly would not have lead to the other mps complaining, and drawing more attention to how disgusting their party is publicly.

His behaviour and that of the people reporting him does not indicate this was a 3 second accident...

So frankly it matters not whether he opened it deliberately or accidentally - he carried on watching it.

LouisCatorze · 30/04/2022 13:42

On a related note, I was on Twitter on the day that the Prince Philip memorial service took place. There was a specific hashtag being used in posts to celebrate his life. Scrolling through the numerous hashtag-related Tweets, I was shocked to find a gay porno image where they'd mischieviously used said hashtag. That was shocking enough!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 30/04/2022 13:42

I once opened the website of a 'Premier gay night club' at work whilst attempting to renew my car insurance in the mid 90s. I think that's as risqué as it's got at work for me.
