To have never opened porn by mistake?

MP Neil Parish says he may have opened porn in Commons by mistake www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61280625
I never realised it was that easy, having only been using the internet for the last 20 years n all.

And now the poor love is being persecuted for his innocent mistake.

Seriously how stupid does he think people are?

If you manage to "accidentally" click on porn links twice then you are too stupid to be allowed a position of responsibility such as MP.

MintyMoocow · 30/04/2022 08:31

How can anybody vote for these men, you just have to look at some of them, ugh!

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 30/04/2022 08:36

I did once get (dare I say it) a 'pop-up' on my computer. As soon as I realised what it was I shut it down straight away. I didn't sit there gawping at it.

Mr Parrish must think we all just fell off a Christmas tree...

This odious man needs de-deselecting

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 30/04/2022 08:37

Whoops - should read "deselecting" !

Rosebuud · 30/04/2022 08:39

I can’t imagine he will be voted in again , although I think they need to and will fire him.

I mean who the fuck sits and watches porn or looks at indecent images at work and where others can see what you’re looking at. He would have known those women could have seen his phone. There is something deeply wrong with this man.

and his wife is no better, declaring it’s partyly the woman’s responsibility for posing for rhe images and that not many people would still be married if they got upset about their husbands watching porn,,eh it’s not the watching porn that’s the issue it’s watching it at work and when others can see the images.

something wrong with the pair of them. He needs ro he fired and he can stay home watching as much porn as he likes and she can sit and blame the woman who make it.

That's not what I'm suggesting.

If he has been sent a clip through an app and played it, then with some phones simply putting the phone into standby only puts the clip into pause. As soon as you unlock the phone the clip will resume playing.

Again, I don't think this is the most likely explanation, but it's certainly possible that someone has sent him the clip, for whatever reason, before he's entered the chamber, he has closed the phone down but not the app, then it has resumed playing when he has unlocked his phone once in the chamber.

It's not as open and shut as 'MP surfs internet inside chamber and searches for porn', which is what a lot of the speculation about it is implying.

AnxiousSquirrel · 30/04/2022 08:49

I used to get adult websites pop up years ago when I used sites like Limewire, sometimes it was poker sites, other times it was pornography. I do believe he's full of crap though, definitely trying to lie his way out of trouble and thinks we're all stupid.

DoctorManhattan · 30/04/2022 08:50

Someone I used to be friends with used to love sending WhatsApp videos over our phones which appeared normal at first (a comedy sketch, or a video of a supercar or something else we would be inclined to watch) but halfway through the video would suddenly switch to porn with a woman moaning very very loudly. He thought it was hilarious. I ended up having to ignore his messages during work hours (I used to check them on communal tea break) and eventually blocking him completely as you never knew if it was a genuine video or not. I’m very lucky I wasn’t accused of watching porn in work also.

With that said, that was an unusual circumstance. I’ve worked in IT for 23 years and can hand on heart say it’s extremely unusual for anyone to have had porn accidentally appear on their computer, and even more unusual for it to happen twice and for lingering periods. Most people would - I imagine - immediately panic and shut down the browser window as fast as possible. Methinks the sleazy politician doth protest too much

Sorry, have reported my double post - good to see my IT experience has paid off 😑. . . Am travelling and 4G keeps popping on and off so thought first post hadn’t submitted properly.

itseasyasABC · 30/04/2022 08:53

Well my husband was trying to watch the boxing on his mobile on the weekend and every link he clicked majority popped up naked women?? I was sat next to him so he wasn't googling them hahaha but I also don't think this man was clicking dodgy links like my husband was !!!!

BruceAndNosh · 30/04/2022 08:58

Even giving him the benefit of the doubt, if someone has sent him a dodgy attachment or WhatsApp that doesn't mean he had to sit and watch it.
One's behaviour when faced with something unexpected, unwelcome and inappropriate onscreen is quite different from "watching". You don't need to be a body language expert to tell the difference

MolkosTeenageAngst · 30/04/2022 09:01

I have once; back in the days of LineWire I was downloading a music video labelled with the artist and song name but on opening it it was actually a porn video.

Ponoka7 · 30/04/2022 09:10

@XDownwiththissortofthingX, he's really unlucky then, because it also happed at a select committee meeting. That's aside from the fact that he shouldn't be opening WA messages in work. Unless Boris has various WA groups on the go, such as War in Ukraine, Trade news with India etc. Which actually is quite plausible.

It's like the excuse of sex with underage girls. Women manage to not have sex with children, yet it eludes men. Just like controlling their sexual urges. They really should have never been in positions of power.

It's not your signal it's the new site update. Some people are posting the same thing 3/4 times. I always check now before re submitting and the post is always there.

Rainbowqueeen · 30/04/2022 09:24

DH and I did many years ago. There was a porn site that used the address Whitehouse.com.

the actual White House in washington’s web address was Whitehouse.gov.

We were very confused for a couple of minutes. It’s pretty obvious when someone opens the wrong website by mistake and it certainly doesn’t take 9 minutes to fix your mistake

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 30/04/2022 09:26

@Ponoka7

It's perfectly commonplace to have Whatsapp groups in any workplace, and in no way inappropriate to use them while at work. MP's/HoC are no different. I'd imagine that it's probably used for keeping in touch with staff both at the HoC and in constituency offices, and as such I'd assume it's expected that MP's absolutely will be picking those messages up 'while at work'.

It's also not beyond the realms of possibility that one or more people in these groups does use it completely inappropriately and does send inappropriate materials frequently in an attempt to embarrass another user, or just because that's the culture of the entire group itself.

I should point out that I am in no way defending Parish, and I am not intending to suggest that he is in some way an innocent victim in all this, merely that it isn't as clear cut as him using the HoC internet to sit and watch streamed or pre-recorded porn in the chamber. Presumably the investigation will get to the bottom of what exactly has happened, because if the phone itself is examined there should be a fairly straightforward evidential trail.

SpringLobelia · 30/04/2022 09:29

I have stumbled across porn sites accidentally twice. Once in relation to my work where I worked with victims of sex trafficking. Once when we were searching for home nurse care for my elderly ill MIL.

In niether case was it actual porn footage.

MissMaple82 · 30/04/2022 09:31

If he's got tabs open and has been on porn then absolutely that can happen. I cantbsee anyone choosing to watching it in public unless they have a mental impairment as surely they are going ti become aroused visibly! Probably was an accident

artisanbread · 30/04/2022 09:32

If he has been sent a clip through an app and played it, then with some phones simply putting the phone into standby only puts the clip into pause.

But if he was sent a clip through an app why did he play it in the first place? Surely everyone knows not to click on links if you don't know what it is.

Toponeniceone · 30/04/2022 09:36

Fucking hell, dh used to send me those stupid WhatsApp photos that look normal until you click on them and then it's actually a massive cock etc. I went ballistic at him. I was working in a fucking school. Absolutely not OK. So, yes, that was an accident.

LondonQueen · 30/04/2022 09:37

Never accidentally opened it but I can see how it would be easy if for example he had it stored in his photos and opened that which brings up the last opened photo. I have done this before with embarrassing photos (tracking my progress at the gym so bra and knickers, not something I want every man and his dog to see!)
Still, it's not excuse. I don't think they should be allowed their mobile phones in there anyway.

In this hypothetical situation - because he absolutely was aware of what it was, and couldn't care less about viewing porn in the privacy of his HoC office, loo, or whatever, only he's such a bumbling technophobe that he's shut the phone down, not realising that what he was previously viewing in private would resume one he unlocked the phone in a public place.

Some people really are that ignorant, cack-handed, and incapable of grasping the basics of mobile phones, even people who use them every single day. It's the bane of my life right now trying to coach one of them.

LouisCatorze · 30/04/2022 09:41

The only time I've ever opened porn (it seemed quite 'vanilla' from the seconds of video I was exposed to) by mistake or otherwise was when I was looking for some type of nursery rhyme thing for the DC. Goodness knows what happened but it was a one-off never repeated (thankfully) incident in the past two decades! I really don't think it's that easy to accidentally happen upon porn.
