Royal Pantomime

Prince Harry founded The Invictus Games. These games have a serious point, a real purpose and offer a real contribution to reminding us of the significant service and personal sacrifice by injured armed forces personnel. The competitors are certainly inspiring, showing examples of how determination and training can overcome disability.
Never was there a greater contrast in the Royal Family, showing these games and an articulate Harry and Meghan promoting them and the total pantomime of Prince William and the female Royals parading in new outfits on the way to Easter Service.
I'm no royalist and want the whole institution abolished - but what a contrast this was! Or am IBU?

I am no fan of the royal family but Prince William and the "Royal females" do lots for charity and service personnel.

JanglyBeads · 18/04/2022 18:33

For people of their background and upbringing, it's totally normal, required even, to have new outfits and go to church on Easter Sunday. The press will always film it.

FWIW I saw/heard nothing in the news about William et al but a lot about Harry and Meaghan at Invictus.

JudgeJ · 18/04/2022 18:36

Harry didn't found the games, he developed an existing idea. It's sad that he and the Mrs are using these injured veterens to promote themselves, I would like to see him remove himself from the Invictus games and give the limelight where it belongs, on the competitors.

EvilPea · 18/04/2022 18:38

They’ve always done the Easter service thing.
It’s not been done to piss Harry off

EvilPea · 18/04/2022 18:38

Queens head of the church, Easter’s kind of a big deal

Trulyweird1 · 18/04/2022 18:40

There’s room for both; I don’t think it’s a competition.

SmellyOldOwls · 18/04/2022 18:40

Meghan did stand up and introduce Harry by his full title apparently so there was a little bit of pomp and ceremony from them too.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 18/04/2022 18:41

Oh come off it. I cannot bear the institution of the royal family and would like it to be abolished, but accusing Harry and Meghan of 'using injured veterans', is a bit of a reach.

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 18:41

OK Meghan, you win - is that what you want to hear?

ancientgran · 18/04/2022 18:42

That's the trouble isn't it, some people insist on making it a competition.
Mamamia7962 · 18/04/2022 18:43

The Royals always attend the Easter service and as the Queen didn't attend this year it's obvious that the focus would be on Prince William, Kate and their children.

Kate's dress wasn't new, she's worn it before.

Chilledchablis1 · 18/04/2022 18:44

So far it’s been the MM fashion show . Catherine was slated for wearing expensive clothes while on an official Royal Tour yet MM has paraded hugely expensive clothes and jewellery with several changes . Why not jeans and an Invictus top ? Why stilettos on a running track ? C and W were accused of being tone deaf but MM’s obscene flaunting of designer outfits was totally out of place .
I know who will leap on me for this but I am entitled to my view .
Hopefully we can now see some of the competitors rather than 2 pampered , privileged people being trailed everywhere by a film crew . For money .

edwinbear · 18/04/2022 18:45

I’m pretty sure Kate would have much preferred to spend Easter Sunday in her PJ’s, watching her DC scoff their Easter eggs, but the Easter service comes with the job.

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 18:46

The Royals are doing their thing.
H & M are doing their thing elsewhere.
It’s as baffling a comparison as comparing me to my brother, who does an entirely different job in another country.
One is nothing to do with the other. We can have both and both serve a purpose.
The end

I wonder how long it will be before you’re accused of being racist
Lambington · 18/04/2022 18:47

Yanbu. The fact that the Queen "head of the church of England" is still happy to be seen in public with Prince Andrew says it all. The lot of them are a moral vacuum. Completely out of touch with the real world.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/04/2022 18:49

The two events aren't comparable.
Doing thhe day job vs walking to church.

Also Kates dress wasn't new.

comealongponds · 18/04/2022 18:50

Harry and Megan are far more attention seeking than the rest of the royals, considering they left because they supposedly wanted privacy.

You can’t compare one notable event with someone else just having a normal Easter weekend Confused

“I wonder how long it will be before you’re accused of being racist”

Probably by the time I have poured a glass of wine !

gogohm · 18/04/2022 18:51

I thought the opposite, he, and more Meghan were posing for their Netflix crew trying to look oh so sincere. Even her all beige outfit, why? It's all for the cameras

CPL593H · 18/04/2022 18:52

So goady. The D and D of Cambridge do their thing, the D and D of Sussex do theirs. All wearing expensive clothes. People will have their preferences but (IMO) this sort of thread is created merely to agitate and usually succeeds.

Cultureclub · 18/04/2022 18:52

The walk to church on Easter Sunday is a long standing tradition and remember the Queen couldn't be there so it was important to see the Royal family. These comparisons don't help anyone and possibly started the issues in the first place.

SickAndTiredAgain · 18/04/2022 18:57

I’d vote to abolish the monarchy if it ever came up, but while its still around, the queen is the head of the Church of England. Charles and William are the future heads, they can’t really not go to an Easter service. Imagine the criticism if William and Kate said “you know what, we’d rather stay home with the kids and eat chocolate”.

SickAndTiredAgain · 18/04/2022 18:59

Even her all beige outfit, why?

Because she liked it? Why would her all beige outfit be specifically for the cameras?

What do you mean by ‘seen in public’? The Queen is almost 96 and isn’t exactly papped on the way to Tesco. Do you mean royal engagements? Because he hasn’t done one of those in a number of years. And the memorial service for his father does not count. That was a church service not a working job.
